Every show starts with the ’70s! We’ll rediscover forgotten rockers, revisit unfairly maligned disco beats and replay power-pop favorites. Next: plenty of new releases, occasional live bands and more. Don’t let the nickname confuse you.

hello hello! I was starting to worry that the Internet was broken!
Avatar 9:07pm JakeGould:

It kinda broke last night when my friends were either talking about that stupid speech or the guy who licked a doorbell for 3 hours.
Swag For Life Member 9:13pm Julie M:

Now we're talkin'! Hi Evan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18pm efd:

hi Julie!
  9:19pm Eddy in Australia:

Hi Evan, Happy New Year to you and the Wednesday night crew. Killer opening set. So glad to be listening live this week.
Swag For Life Member 9:20pm Julie M:

Just to qualify, by the way, I mean the whole set so far. Music takes you back so easily...
Avatar 9:23pm Mailman Tom:

I was heartbroken when I read her obit in the NYT a few days ago. What a gal!
Avatar 9:23pm Hoboken Jack:

Howdy EFD, Glenn, all! R.I.P. female drummer whose name escapes me right now!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28pm BLCKDGRD:

Thank you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33pm efd:

you're welcome!
  9:34pm Pedro in Arlington:

Cannot play too much Bowie. OK, maybe not the 80s stuff. But the rest is more than fine.
Avatar 9:40pm JakeGould:

Let’s Dance is a decent album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42pm efd:

I forgot to mention that next month Chris O'Leary is coming back on my show to talk about his follow-up Bowie song-by-song book, Ashes To Ashes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43pm efd:

(he came on a couple of years ago to talk about his first book, Rebel Rebel)
Avatar 9:46pm herb.nyc:

Gary Olson song is great! I saw a Ladybug T cd at thrift, didn't buy (ugh!). Anyway, I thought Robert Forster? Esp since he's gonna release a record.
  9:47pm Robin Eisgrau:

Awesome show as usual Evan! loved the glammy opening trax and the nod to Ian Dury.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48pm Barkevious Shabazz:

More than a little Go Betweens feel to that Gary Olson.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55pm chris_in_space:

@efd, great to hear about the upcoming interview with Chris O’Leary. Over the years, I've read some great books based on your author interviews. I'm betting this will be no different.
Avatar 9:56pm JakeGould:

EFD has good taste.
  10:00pm herb.nyc:

EFD is less filling!
Avatar 10:00pm twinoak170:

Hi Evan and gang!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02pm Barkevious Shabazz:

You're equal, but different.
Avatar 10:06pm RobinSays:

Do The Suburban Homes have anything to do with Suburban Lawns? ;) BTW this is Robin Eisgrau -- had a little wonkiness with my account.
  10:09pm Jhaykhay:

What's the missing song?? Between l.o.x. And collate
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10pm efd:

shit did I really forget to enter one??
Avatar 10:11pm JakeGould:

Tastes great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11pm efd:

I don't think I did? I don't see anything lying around
  10:11pm Jeff formerly from Rahway:

Hiya EFD!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12pm efd:

hi Robin, no connection apart from both having "suburban" in their names
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20pm nickybones:

this is amazing. my gf is frantically searching discogs now. haha. HI EVAN!
  10:25pm Bklyn Listener:

Great show as per usual. Thanks for the Poprocks with EFD in the mornings too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30pm efd:

thanks and thanks, Bklyn Listener!
  10:30pm Jeff formerly from Rahway:

Is this a new song from the High Dials?
Avatar 10:40pm herb.nyc:

Via Evans's Instagram, I learned he's aka Devin. (Who did todays NYTimes x/word? Dya see the cute vowel thing?) - oh, Less Filling!
Avatar 10:52pm javakid:

read the Stamey autobiography that came out this year. he loved the Everly Bros. as a young boy.
Avatar 10:53pm twinoak170:

Wow, loving this one.
Avatar 10:53pm javakid:

and a Saint Etienne curated album with this song no less
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54pm efd:

it has to be the creepiest of all Everly Brothers songs, right??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59pm Alex of Chicago:

I'm working, so can't comment much, but loving this set. Creepy Everly Brothers is my thing, but all the rest as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I've always wondered, is Union Pool a place with a swimming pool or billiards?
  11:06pm morphe:

Normally heard you after 3pm (198?)NYC in the backroom of Barnes&Noble(18st).
Just awoke to your theme tune in my freezing attic in Madrid(0501CET) and thought I was in B&N
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm nickybones:

@Ken From Hyde Park: neither! but, it does have a taco truck.
  11:13pm JakeGould:

@morphe: Now that is a memory!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13pm efd:

ha, that's funny morphe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14pm efd:

I think Union Pool was previously a (swimming) pool business, hence the name?
  11:19pm morphe:

chris_in_space: you must find the film"Robinson in Space"
a genuine SITUATIONIST Derivee around Defoe's England.
Does anyone out there know the "Situatioinsts" Guy Debord, Vaneigman..
the "derives" or the "Detourment" ??? Worth finding at your Local Anarchist Bookshop: SITUATIONIST ANTHOLOGY [title] is a good starting point
  11:23pm morphe:

Jake: Just woke up because it is 0500 in Madrid...Do you not rest? Must be the Cod Liver Oil??? Great Scot song: "Cod Liver Oil and the Orange Juice" Granny's would sneak it into juice.. Mothers rammed it down the throat!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26pm DocBlueDog:

Woot. Just here for a visit. Thanks for the tickets to Union Pool Friday night and flashbacks to my late night ticket winning when I first moved to NYC back in 1985. Good times. Great show. Woot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29pm DocBlueDog:

ps Society of the Spectacle is hard to miss if you’re remotely interested in shit. :)
Avatar 11:32pm RobinSays:

Public Practice are really good. Are they a current band? I sense a little Waitresses/Pulsallama ness about them.
  11:32pm morphe:

Doc..Go Doc!!!! Did you know Debord committed suicide?? Do not recall the year.
Avatar 11:33pm javakid:

liked the Public Practice track as well. Discogs has them on a split 12'' with Flasher. Flasher are a Priests side project and I see the similarities across all those bands.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46pm efd:

interesting, javakid, I wasn't aware of the Flasher connection. I liked their album from last year a lot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47pm efd:

@Robin, agree with your take on their sound
  11:51pm steveL:

Dear God! I've nearly missed it all, watching Moonstruck with my wife! To the archives!
Avatar 11:52pm javakid:

looks like a limited edition flexi with flasher and public practice to support a tour. so that's the connection and a show I would have very much liked to have seen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54pm efd:

ooh yeah, that would have been pretty great!
  11:54pm darue keller:

doctors of madness are so good, essential for any violin rock comp
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55pm Aitch:

Nice show. Thanks efd.
  11:56pm steveL:

That sounds pretty cool.
