A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51am Webhamster Henry:

There's a not particularly flattering cartoon bio of Jaye P. Morgan done by Drew Friedman.
Avatar 9:52am Wild Neil||Peace All:

Jaye P Morgan flashed her boobs on the Gong Show and was fired in 1978 most likely. If it was recorded ahead of time, who cares? What's the big deal?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53am Webhamster Henry:

I'm hearing the squeaky tones of a Casio keyboard in this tune.
Avatar 9:53am TDK60:

steveo, I share your enthusiasm for daylight bicycling
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05am Webhamster Henry:

The first in the Rimarimba series, 1983’s Below The Horizon, features Robert Cox in exploratory mode, figuring out exactly how to make his music. There’s a pleasure in hearing how he feels out the parameters of his aesthetic, here – there’s a boxy minimalism, slightly clunky and charming with it, that reflects the home-spun, improvisatory tenor of the compositions. It’s ambitious music, though, wanting to do the most and the best it can with its limited resources. Cox himself admits to not being “pre-wired” to making this music, but that only makes it more compelling: “Were I to be properly musical, it wouldn’t actually work as well in some ways; it’d be just another album of contemporary clattery music.”
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06am steveo:

thanks for that link WH
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07am Webhamster Henry:

I thought it sounded kind of 1983-ish!

There's a message purportedly from the coast guard advising coasties on how to raise money to replace their missing incomes, like "do a yard sale".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am tim from champaign:

When I lived in Champaign, IL and worked at the U of Illinois, I saw what Trouble is talking about. There are 8000 Chinese international students on campus and 3000 South Korean students on campus - primarily grad, doc and researchers. It's a huge financial boon to the university and community. There's off campus housing, restaurants, grocery stores, convenience stores and services that have opened up in the past 5 years that caters just to international students.

It was great seeing the average bland chinese american restaurants unroll actual Chinese menus. Chinese Chinese food is soooo good. In the words of X-Ray Burns "mess you up bad!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15am Greg from ZONE 5:

Morning, Trouble and all—Sorry I'm late.
  11:16am emily:

I know this as a teacher at Parsons. I would say, at times, more than 50% of my students are foreign. At Queens College, the same--but they might be first generation Americans. BTW: Tim from Champaign: U of I is my alma mater.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19am tim from champaign:

I will. Thanks, Trouble! I used to work in the main stacks of the U of I library and it was really cool interacting with the international students. There are definitely some problems with universities utilizing international students as a cash cow business model but there were a lot of cultural positives for such a large population in a smallish midwestern college town in the middle of corn and soy fields.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19am drowsy:

Thanks Trouble.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20am tim from champaign:

  11:41am Listener Gregory:

Just wanted to add that the increase in foreign students esp. at state schools was encouraged by the consistent reduction of state funding in real terms. Full tuition dollars help to fill that gap. Of course, many students are now discouraged from applying from abroad, given the current administration.
