Last Waltz: Pretentious interviews, both Scorsese's imploring, Meaning-laden questions and Robertson's I'm-really-doing-something-heavy-here responses. You'd think rock-band touring was the equivalent of achieving world peace.

Read Levon's book for the story behind the Last Waltz, Mike. It confirms all your suspicions. Also, the real audio from the show is easily found online. Long live Hank Williams.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46am TheLoneliestMonk:

i know people who've seen the 'mats and JT & the heartbreakers...said the exact same thing: you were either gonna see some of the greatest rock n roll you've ever seen in your life, or the most stoned mess to ever get up on a riser!
  11:46am Dean:

Saw Cheap Trick four times, every time as the headline act. First at the Whisky on Sunset Blvd., last at Long Beach Arena New Year's Eve, '78. They got better as the venues expanded.
  11:47am paul:

Another song covered by Dave Edmunds.
  11:47am clarke:

what the books and the movie doesn't 'get' about the Replacements is that they were KILLER, early-on. just the best band one could imagine. at some point, they decided to see how far they could get away with fucking with the audience. BUT... and here's the point: they ALWAYS pulled off one song perfectly killer just to show the people what they could get and then f'd up the rest of the set.
  11:47am Dean:

Met them, too, at the Tower Records on Sunset.
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 Swag For Life Member 11:48am Hughie Considine:

there is a part of The Last Waltz that makes me tear-up every time i see it: it is when rick danko is being intv'd in their studio and playing tracks from his solo record. you can just tell that it is tearing him apart to see The Band end.
  11:52am paul:

The Beach Boys and McCartney have gone rare tracks-crazy.
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 Swag For Life Member 11:53am Hughie Considine:

To that eternal question, the answer is still: The Kinks
  11:54am clarke:

MS - i think the beatles tunes are so far ingrained in our brains that i would probably make the same decision, too.
  11:54am Ross T.:

The Beach Boys are the band for me that has an unlimited pleasure quotient.
  11:54am clarke:

although Hughie has a pernt.

  11:55am Ross T.:

Kinks certainly get same breath consideration and then some.
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 Swag For Life Member 11:56am Listener Baby:

Baby. The math just doesn't work for me on that question. Beatles album tracks just too many great ones. The circle is just so much larger with The Beatles. So says I. But BB's are fantastic!

  12:00pm Ross T.:

Lastly, The Last Waltz should be seen as an anti-cocaine commercial. Primarily to see anti-rock star Band member/leader Robbie Robertson transform from humble, peculiar looking recluse musician into important, silly scarf wearing, uh, rock star.
  12:00pm clarke:

this island that Baby and Montmaster are on???
Avatar 12:00pm ledzeppelinsucks:

make the nachos in multiple layers. each layer gets all ingredients except for high moisture items like salsa and onions. those go on the top layer to avoid making the lowers soggy. use thinly sliced cerrano or jalapeno instead of canned peppers, which have too much water and are tainted with vinegar. do not use anything with hababero on nachos or use habanero in nacho ingredients. keep that as a condiment if you like it. use cerrano or jalapeno peppers on nachos. refried beans are better to use on nachos, whole beans fall off and have too much water.

  12:11pm Frank Zaatar:

I'm a card-carrying (Beatles [USA] Ltd.) Beatlemaniac. But I'm with Clarke on Beatles vs. Beach Boys on a desert island. We have already memorized the Beatles canon and analyzed within an inch of its life. But we can always find a detail in the harmonies or orchestration of the Beach Boys that we haven't noticed.
  12:12pm Ross T.:

I imagine many if not most here are familiar with the Martin Scorsese anecdote about watching the Last Waltz Neil Young footage and realizing in Neil's schnozz sat the world's largest coke booger. Being a time of pre-computer editing, doctoring it amounted to about $50,000, causing Scorsese to term it "the most expensive coke I ever purchased."

A nice alternative nachos topper is barbecue pulled pork. However if you prefer to stick with ground beef, the key is avoiding the pointlessly taste-free so-called taco seasoning and instead use Old Bay seafood seasoning. It does not turn beef into fish, but it does add plenty of good and fitting flavor
Avatar 12:45pm Michael Shelley:

I must admit - I like the packaged seasoning (though I purposely have never looked at the list of ingredients) - but Old Bay sounds nice too

Twas that tune indeed. We probably ruined it. Was the Roxy as I remember. Though we played the Palomino, and my amp blew up.

I can't even express in words how much I hated that Replacements documentary. A bunch of insufferable beard guys talking pretentiously about a band who's very existence was based on being unpretentious. Awful. You're not wrong about the Last Waltz and Robertson.
Nacho tip: use whole pinto beans and utilize all the canned liquid on the chips.

Also, The Marvelous Mrs Maisel on Amazon. It's completely delightful. Derry Girls on Netflix is also pretty brilliant.
