Hello David, got to run to the store, I'll hop on at the next stop!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02pm David D:

Hello Chresti, jump back on as you like...
Avatar 3:03pm monkeyz:

hey david, nice that it's tuesday again, i'm curious for the next few hours of music
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm David D:

Hey Monkeyz, yes it is - thanks for joining us!
Avatar 3:04pm Listening Out There:

It's that time again. Hey, all...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm redkayak:

Howdy all :)
  3:06pm Mark R:

Wow, this Harold Land track is tremendous!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm doctorjazz:

Hey David! Nice to get on the subway again! Was away for a few weeks, missed the show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm David D:

Hello Mark, Redkayak, L.O.T., and welcome back, Doctorjazz! How was the trip?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm steveo:

greetings! I've grabbed a front row seat, so let me know if we're about to run into something.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm David D:

Greetings, Steveo, I certainly hope we do...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm doctorjazz:

Really great! Man, it was fun, interesting another world
  3:09pm Mark R:

This track's a motherfucker, too. The rhythm section is cooking. Make sure you tell us who they are. I'm painting and don't have time to google.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm steveo:

:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm David D:

Joe Peters is drumming on the Singapore - will announce it all in just a few...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm Michael 98145:

enjoying this, thank you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm David D:

Doctorjazz: Did you wind up doing much cycling there?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm David D:

My pleasure, Michael!
Avatar 3:15pm βrian:

Cycling?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm Michael 98145:

one could say all of history is a cycle
  3:18pm Mark R:

I have to say I've heard of Harold Land of course, but I've never really listened to him, I had no idea how great he was, and you've spanned 13 years here, and he's solid throughout. Damn! Well, there are only so many geniuses you can keep track of, I guess.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm David D:

I thought cycling was involved, but only Doctorjazz can tell us.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm David D:

It would be Harold Land's 90th birthday today, in fact.
  3:25pm Mark R:

Thank you for the personnel--Frank Butler played on some of Coltrane's more out records--alongside Elvin Jones. Kenny Dorham's cool, too. Yes, not familiar with Joey Peters, but he sounded great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm steveo:

I happen to have a sunrise/sunset table open, so I've confirmed that next Tuesday will have 8 seconds more daylight than today in New York :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm Webhamster Henry:

Happy Hundredth show!
Avatar 3:28pm monkeyz:

Yeah happy hundredth show david!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm steveo:

Next Tuesday is only one second longer in poor, dark Leipzig, however!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm doctorjazz:

I did, spent a week in Chiang Mai, Thailand, visited the Elephant Rescue Park , then went to Vietnam for 2 weeks, walked in the cities (dangerous enough, the motor bikers are crazy everyone on the road is playing chicken, biking seemed to be suicide) , but biked through the countryside, through some floods. Was crazy but fun Biked about 30+ miles a day.
Loving the Land!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm David D:

Thanks, everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm Stanley:

(Climbs down off roof and swings through window)
I made it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm David D:

And thanks Steveo for that - we'll be heading back towards the sun next week...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm David D:

We always leave the sunroof unlatched for you, Stanley.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm David D:

Doc: That sounds like quite an adventure. Hope the flooding didn't do any damage.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm redkayak:

@David - Happy Anniversary, sir.
Sounding real good out here in the Imperial Midwest :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm David D:

Thanks, Redkayak! My regards to the Inland Emperor...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm redkayak:

  3:38pm Mark R:

Really digging this show, David. This guy really explored the whole sonic landscape, didn't he? Exotic middle-eastern sounds, etc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm steveo:

enjoying this land tribute greatly - and also congrats on your 100th show. glad to be on board.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm David D:

Thanks Mark and Steveo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm Webhamster Henry:

It's also the lightest day of the year soon in the Southern Hemisphere.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm redkayak:

Say, has anyone seen the Christmas comet? Speaking of astronomy....
  3:40pm Mark R:

Yes, congratulations on your centennial!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm David D:

Henry: True - and kind of an average day at the equator, I suppose.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm David D:

Thanks, Mark!

Avatar 3:44pm Sem:

Hello, David of the 100, and Subwayers, continental and otherwise. Loved that Thai? Cambodian? Laotian? piece just played.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm doctorjazz:

Happy 100!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm David D:

Thanks Sem and Doc!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm David D:

Redkayak, too many lights here as well - we'd have to head for the hills.
Avatar 3:53pm βrian:

Near Fresh Kills?
Avatar 3:54pm Brian in UK:

Hello David.

@doctorjazz pleased to hear the holiday was eye opening. just got to adjust to the temperature and senibilities back home now.
Avatar 3:59pm northguineahills:

@βrian:Why you would someone to go to Staten Island, is more cruelty then I can comprehend :p
Avatar 4:01pm northguineahills:

(why would someone wish someone to go to Staten Island....)
Avatar 4:02pm βrian:

I've only ever seen it in the movies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm David D:

Hello Brian and NGH!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm steveo:

a family we know had a good time camping on Staten Island last summer -- there's a national recreation there, near the Verrazano Bridge...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm steveo:

*national recreation area
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm doctorjazz:

(I go to Staten Island almost every day, office is there )
Avatar 4:09pm northguineahills:

@steveo: Gateway National Recreational Area. Spans SI/BK/QU.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm steveo:

i agree
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm steveo:

they took their bikes on the ferry and ate in restaurants, and slept in tents
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm David D:

There is great pizza around there in any case, sounds like a fun idea.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm doctorjazz:

Definitely no shortage good pizza may pick up a pie from Joe and Pats on the way home, they have A Monday and Tuesday special (great thin crust!)
Avatar 4:16pm βrian:

I like pizza.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm Stanley:

nothing beatsa pieca pizza
Avatar 4:16pm βrian:

... and chicken pot pie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm steveo:

also nothing beats "they give me money" so dr. jazz wins :)
Avatar 4:18pm Brian in UK:

There is only one thing better than a slice of pizza and that is two slices of pizza.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm doctorjazz:

I win a pie, cool!
Avatar 4:19pm βrian:

But before you slice a pizza, there is only one slice.
Avatar 4:21pm βrian:

Though I love a pie, love is not a pie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm Michael 98145:

{ This isn't Melanie/Melania ?? }

:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm doctorjazz:

Maybe A Romania Romania?
Avatar 4:30pm northguineahills:

I prefer opie! (mayuko would slap me for saying that [another Japanese friend already has done do])
Avatar 4:30pm βrian:

We have a pair of hellions living just down the street.
Avatar 4:35pm βrian:

Gotta segue from Continental Subway to Metropolitan Bus Ride. Çiao for now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm David D:

Have a good transfer, βrian...
Avatar 4:51pm northguineahills:

Colonel Sanders????!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm David D:

I don't think the Colonel is on this particular track.
Avatar 4:56pm northguineahills:

Xenophonie, nice album title!
  4:57pm melinda:

Hi friends
Avatar 4:58pm northguineahills:

what if it was less then 3?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:00pm Michael 98145:

good answer ' long enough '
Avatar 5:02pm northguineahills:

The only thing I proselytize, is WFMU. I've won a few converts. (Jehovah's Witnesses look at me jealously).
Avatar 5:03pm Sem:

Well, now this has been a while between thrills. Twangy sitar not withstanding,
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:03pm David D:

Hi Melinda!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05pm David D:

In case you're wondering, KFC doesn't stand for anything in particular, probably started as an inside joke at school.
Avatar 5:05pm Franco Twinkie:

Ha! I use to work with Alan and Lance from PBC. They use to have hilarious stories about 'Back in the day'
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:08pm David D:

Franco Twinkie: Sounds like a fun workplace. Did they ever let you in on the conspiracy?
Avatar 5:08pm Sem:

An homage to King Crimson's Schizoid Man? or no?
Avatar 5:10pm Franco Twinkie:

Well, at the expense of saying things that could be potentially libelous I will only say yes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm David D:

Sem: Robert Fripp played on another track on this album, so maybe by osmosis?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:13pm David D:

Franco: Say no more!
Avatar 5:13pm Sem:

Sure, that's a polite way of handling it. A paraphrase, then? Not nearly as inventive as the model, for sure,
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15pm David D:

Sem: Well this one is about fishies.
Avatar 5:20pm northguineahills:

Lars Gunnar Bodin, new to me!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20pm Michael 98145:

Välkommen - Sweden welcomes the alien life
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm David D:

Actually now that I think of it, Killer is about halfway between that and Timewarp.
Avatar 5:26pm northguineahills:

elektronischer gehirntanz!
Avatar 5:27pm northguineahills:

(I know some German, barely any Swedish)
Avatar 5:29pm Sem:

...keep waiting for the rimshot on your last remark, David:-D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm David D:

NGH: He did study with Stockhausen, so that should work.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm David D:

Sem: I think I have one somewhere that I could cue up...
Avatar 5:35pm Hams:

i sure was hoping there'd be a group out there named after the year i was born.
Avatar 5:37pm βrian:

Off the bus, back from the grocery store, and back on the subway.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:37pm David D:

Hey Hams, you got it!
Avatar 5:40pm βrian:

It's ok to drink Chianti on this subway, isn't it?
Avatar 5:41pm Hams:

hello!
Avatar 5:41pm northguineahills:

Ruth Zechlin, new to me, reminded me of Kagel, as does 1982.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm David D:

βrian: Sure, it is BYOB, except for the virtual stuff of course, which is always available.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm Stanley:

Wha? Wha? (wakes up)
Crikey, nearly missed my stop.
David - j'attends avec plaisir ton emission a Noel.
Au revoir mes amis.
Avatar 5:49pm βrian:

Well, in that case, I'll skip the Chianti and go with a Nebbiolo d'Alba.
Avatar 5:49pm northguineahills:

(hard to google 1982)
Avatar 5:50pm βrian:

When I was in France, peanut butter was only available in cans at the Monoprix.
Avatar 5:51pm Sem:

Thanks, David. See you Christmas Day. I'll bring Fripp's phone number, and he can settle the whole KILLER thing. Bye for now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm chresti:

I loved Monoprix!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm Michael 98145:

... on the other hand, all Monoprix have a wall of cheeses
Avatar 5:53pm βrian:

@chresti: Do you recall the packages of brains in the frozen food section? Very eye-catching, to say the least.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54pm chresti:

I can't remember having peanut butter in France. I would imagine it in tubes, like dijon mutarde
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:57pm chresti:

@Brian- no! I don't remember the frozen brains, or the frozen section.
Avatar 5:57pm βrian:

I recall buying the peanut butter, because I was making Gado-gado.

Say, the stream is getting dicey.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm chresti:

Happy hundreth show, David!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm Michael 98145:

One Hundred and -still- giving us great musics. Thank you so much.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:01pm David D:

Merci et bonne nuit, Stanley and Sem....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:01pm David D:

Thank you Chresti and Michael!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:01pm chresti:

I remember the Monoprix music-"Monoprix! Monoprix"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:06pm David D:

Supermarket jingles can be particularly insidious.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:06pm Ike:

Never been to a Monoprix. Is that like Carrefour or Aldi?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:07pm chresti:

This one was bright and snappy (Monoprix)
Avatar 6:07pm βrian:

@DD: I've developed an allergy to Singing in the Rain, sadly. Gene Kelly is constantly rolling in his grave, I expect.
Avatar 6:09pm βrian:

The Monoprix in Aix-en-P would close from 12-2 pm. That was a concept that left us 'mericans slack-jawed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:09pm David D:

βrian: I won't tell him if you don't.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:09pm Michael 98145:

having recently returned from the island of Maui, i currently have "Mele Kalikimaka" rotting a good portion of my cortex.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:10pm chresti:

Kind of. Kind of K-mart with food compared to Sears with food? I imagine Carrefour like a department store.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:11pm David D:

Ike: Aldi is German and a discounter with less of a range.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:11pm chresti:

Oh yeah, the extended lunch break!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm Michael 98145:

@chresti, i think of Monoprix as a sort of Target
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm chresti:

Haha Michael 98145!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:13pm David D:

No lunch breaks for supermarkets here, but they all close at 10pm or earlier.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:14pm chresti:

@Michael- pre-updated version, yes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:14pm Michael 98145:

pronounced, TarJay, of course
:)
Avatar 6:14pm βrian:

I taught myself to cook using a Monoprix-bought enameled steel skillet. The produce from the market was awesome, so I had a lot to work with.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:15pm Michael 98145:

{ really enjoying this }
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:16pm chresti:

Or, pre spotted puppy transformation
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:17pm Michael 98145:

woof
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:17pm David D:

This is Holger Czukay by the way (Ho Mai Nhi).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm Michael 98145:

@David, did -not- know that ...
Avatar 6:18pm northguineahills:

I just got a cast iron tortilla heater from la tienda (it's heavy, but now my tortillas are perfect!).
Avatar 6:20pm βrian:

Nothing worse than getting one's tortillas in a twist.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:20pm chresti:

Oh wow, Czukay
Avatar 6:20pm northguineahills:

Technical Space Composer’s Crew, new to me and digdug!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:21pm chresti:

Corn tortillas? ngh
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:22pm chresti:

This set is great, David!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23pm David D:

Yes, that project was Czukay along with Rolf Dammers.
Avatar 6:23pm βrian:

Wait, tortilla means eggs and potatoes, no? En España, anyway.
Avatar 6:23pm northguineahills:

I'm more of a flour tortilla guy (which is weird, as I usually prefer Southern Mexican and/or Hildaguese cuisine), but, occasionally I do corn
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23pm David D:

Thanks, Chresti!
Avatar 6:26pm northguineahills:

tortilla just means a small piece of flat bread/cake. Torta can be a sandwich of sorts...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:26pm chresti:

We have a comal ngh
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm chresti:

Spanish tortilla has egg
Avatar 6:29pm northguineahills:

I need to make a vegan shepard's pie again (w/ vegan chorizo!)
Avatar 6:32pm βrian:

@NGH: Seems like an oxymoron. Unless you're shepherding zucchini, I guess.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:33pm David D:

Seitanherding is an up-and-coming profession.
Avatar 6:36pm βrian:

Free-range seitan sounds appealing; gluten-free seitan not so much.
Avatar 6:37pm northguineahills:

my garden moves around at night, I might need to get a collie.
Avatar 6:39pm Franco Twinkie:

NGH. I just have to put in my two cents regarding tortillas. I love both corn and flour. However, I find it much simpler to make a passable flour. Corn, because of the lack of gluten is a trickier proposition.
Avatar 6:40pm βrian:

@NGH: If the tomato vines come after you, remember: seawater will save you.
Avatar 6:46pm northguineahills:

I've had 2 freezes, and 4 frosts, and my garden looks as healthy as ever....
Avatar 6:47pm βrian:

Is there such a thing as whole-wheat tortiillas?

Not the legally permissible reconstituted dreck that's allowed to be labeled as "whole wheat."

I mean flour that's made only from whole wheat berries.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:47pm Michael 98145:

Yemoja to the rescue
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:47pm chresti:

I'm imagining fields with herds of seitan @David D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:47pm Michael 98145:

... ah, back to Harold Land. nice -
Avatar 6:49pm northguineahills:

@βrian: I had some at vegan restaurant in Monterrey, Mexico.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:49pm chresti:

@Brian- Whole wheat tortillas: bad
Avatar 6:50pm northguineahills:

Fez, new to me!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:50pm David D:

Well I'm just getting hungry now...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:53pm David D:

NGH: Fez was an East German group.
Avatar 6:53pm Franco Twinkie:

Day of Triffids! Okay, back to tortillas. Yes, Brian, a good whole wheat ( trigo) is possible, but it is likely you have to make it your self. Not impossible, but it takes a few good cracker like failures to get on point.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:54pm doctorjazz:

Everybody's bopping!
Avatar 6:57pm βrian:

I like my grains whole, and processed only by friendly bacteria — not transnational corporations.

Anyway, I have a line on some good bacterial starter, so I'll have to follow up. Thanks, @Franco Twinkie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:57pm doctorjazz:

Great stuff David, great to be back on the underground !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:57pm chresti:

It's high coffee/tea time, here.
Avatar 6:57pm northguineahills:

my gratitude, David!
Avatar 6:58pm northguineahills:

my gratitude, David! (green tea for me right now)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:59pm Michael 98145:

well, thanks again, David D!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:00pm chresti:

Oh, that's like Holy Mary's pizza crust, fermented @Brian
Avatar 7:00pm monkeyz:

thanks david for the 4 hours!
Avatar 7:00pm Franco Twinkie:

Having had two Mexican grandmothers who had uniquely different angles on the tortilla, I can say there is a lot room for interpretation. I love both white and whole wheat.
Avatar 7:00pm βrian:

Thanks, David D.

My wakame is coming to a boil, so I should intervene and feed the clamoring loved ones.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:00pm chresti:

Thanks David!
