Avatar Fri. 12/7/18 3:22pm Mr Fab:

Much more entertaining than those NPR spoken-word shows. Sheena's Jungle Room presents: "This American Low-Life"!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/7/18 3:22pm Otis Fodder:

Might have been a steer, memory on that is a bit hazy. Crazy stuff. I did have breakfast after at a Denny's remember that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/7/18 3:22pm Rich in Washington:

I'm going to have a double cheeseburger for you later today, Otis.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/7/18 3:23pm Rich in Washington:

  Fri. 12/7/18 3:24pm Germaine:

Hi! Listening while studying for exams..."Storytime with Otis" is much more engaging!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/7/18 3:24pm Otis Fodder:

Funny thing is there was a mail-art thing called "holy church of moo" in the mid-90s. I was totally a rev of that one, along with like a dozen other funny ones (sub-g!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/7/18 3:24pm Rich in Washington:

I think there was a Mac, use-at-your-own risk version of Winamp out a couple of years ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/7/18 3:37pm Dutchman Jan:

loved that trombone!

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/7/18 3:45pm chresti:

I agree! Gems are everywhere
Avatar Fri. 12/7/18 3:46pm Don-O:

......and now I'm going out for a brief walk. I will be back in a few minutes. Keep talkin' Otis!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/7/18 3:46pm Rich in Washington:

I went through, somewhat still challenged by, occasionally being influenced/intimidated/inspired by what others are playing here, but now it's more inspired - I don't quite worry as much about repeating what others are playing or playing something that's a bit of an outlier, etc.
I think we're all doing a good job of just being us.
Free To Be You and Me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/7/18 3:47pm Rich in Washington:

I like the talkin! We're all good at it!
Radio-therapy! Ha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/7/18 3:48pm chresti:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/7/18 3:54pm chresti:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/7/18 3:54pm Rich in Washington:

This is fantastic! WATCH OUT FOR THAT BAT!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/7/18 3:55pm Otis Fodder:

I love that song, The Cave.
Fri. 12/7/18 3:57pm Blair Clifton Sterrett:

I have The Cave 45, but I still think I own a re-issue, even though the seller swore it was original. lol Too clean, to skinny etc. My own paranoia.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/7/18 3:59pm Rich in Washington:

Bless Kogar the Swinging Ape. I think it's up to 17 volumes now, the Lux & Ivy's Favorites, I mean.
Avatar Fri. 12/7/18 4:00pm Martinibomb:

Mississippi records is in my Hood! I just walked by it this morning. Love that label/store!
Avatar Fri. 12/7/18 4:01pm Martinibomb:

Also the best grocery store in the universe is across the street where I get my veg! Records and food.. not sure what else I need
Avatar Fri. 12/7/18 4:02pm Mr Fab:

DJs: don't feel like you need to be in competition with each other. It wasn't my intent to have the weirdest, wackiest, most obscure station in the world. Just the coolest.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/7/18 4:03pm Rich in Washington:

I need to go again soon. They're technically closer now since they moved. I just keep forgetting to go because I rarely carry cash and they don't so plastic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/7/18 4:03pm Rich in Washington:

do plastic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/7/18 4:05pm Rich in Washington:

Oh. I have this record! Love Porter Wagoner.
Avatar Fri. 12/7/18 4:06pm geezerette:

The Rubber Room, bouncy tune. :)
Fri. 12/7/18 4:06pm Blair Clifton Sterrett:

I played the Porter record at a record night, and then showed my double copy. That thing was gone in a trade in about 30 seconds.
  Fri. 12/7/18 4:07pm Somoflange:

Good hearing you Otis!
Avatar Fri. 12/7/18 4:07pm Franco Twinkie:

Wavy Gravy. Besides been a great compilation of nuttiness, the album cover features Beverley Garland menaced by the monster from It Conquered The Word.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/7/18 4:07pm Otis Fodder:

Oooooh, I want that 45 single. I still gotta listen to Pt. 2 of The Cave!
Avatar Fri. 12/7/18 4:07pm geezerette:

Mimp-fis...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/7/18 4:07pm Otis Fodder:

Thx Somoflange!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/7/18 4:07pm Rich in Washington:

I love that Twisted Tales series. It's fantastic! I think Norton sent the entire sheebang to KBOO so it's in the library. I managed to buy several volumes until the store I bought it from went out of business.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/7/18 4:08pm Otis Fodder:

The beeps in Gear Bustin' Sort of Feller crack me up. Covering the nasty words.
Avatar Fri. 12/7/18 4:09pm Mr Fab:

I wonder about trucker records. Truckers can't listen to records, can they..?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/7/18 4:09pm Otis Fodder:

I hope that all the truckers are listening to Down and Out. I would!
Fri. 12/7/18 4:11pm Blair Clifton Sterrett:

Truckers played the 8-tracks and listened to the records at home, and 45's at the truck stop diners.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/7/18 4:12pm Otis Fodder:

I love that Blair!
Avatar Fri. 12/7/18 4:13pm geezerette:

Yay! Boing-boing-...bonk!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/7/18 4:13pm Rich in Washington:

I remember during the mid-80s Cowpunk era, there was renewed interest in death, tragedy, insanity themed old country songs.
Avatar Fri. 12/7/18 4:15pm Mr Fab:

yeah I remember too Rich. The first versions of Eddie Noak's "Psycho" I heard were covers.
Avatar Fri. 12/7/18 4:15pm geezerette:

Truck stops are like theme parks. Love 'em!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/7/18 4:17pm Rich in Washington:

Yeah. And later that Death Dealers LP and the Joe Coleman Infernal Machine record. Lots of murder songs.
Avatar Fri. 12/7/18 4:21pm Mr Fab:

Otis, if you're looking for modern country that kinda has that bad-livin' vibe, you might like some Old Crow Medicine Show stuff. I've added some of their songs to the stream, like the self-explanatory "Methamphetamine." And Ministry actually has a country spin-off called Buck Satan and his 666 Shooters.
  Fri. 12/7/18 4:21pm Germaine:

CTW!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/7/18 4:22pm Otis Fodder:

Thanks Fab!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/7/18 4:23pm Listener Bob in PGH:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/7/18 4:24pm Listener Bob in PGH:

"Mobity Mosely" that is
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/7/18 4:24pm Rich in Washington:

I occasionally see that Franklin LP. I should snag it. It sure sounds groovy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/7/18 4:25pm Otis Fodder:

Bob - Yes !!
Rich - Pick that up !!
Avatar Fri. 12/7/18 4:25pm Mr Fab:

I met Sid & Marty Kroft a couple years ago, and got my pic taken with them! We went to buy a Shag print called "Puff's Pad" that was signed by all three of 'em.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/7/18 4:26pm Rich in Washington:

I have this weird inhibition about buying kiddie records for some reason. It has to really be worth the weird looks I get from Goodwill clerks. I don't know why I care.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/7/18 4:26pm Listener Bob in PGH:

I seem to remember a trippy illustration about safely crossing the street where the kid's face was a blur showing him looking in both directions.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/7/18 4:27pm Otis Fodder:

The look from the clerks will either be comical or in full frustration because you snagged it before them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/7/18 4:33pm Rich in Washington:

I've only had that experience at this weird rehab/xtian thrift store. I would say easily 95% of the records were awful christian records but an occasional weird record, but no rock n' roll.
I found a really clean copy of Sgt. Pepper's and took it up and the addled, aging wannabee punker christian pastor guy who ran the store practically jumped that I had it - like he couldn't believe it had somehow gotten past him and into the bins. He clearly wanted it and even seemed to try to contrive some way of denying me buying it. It was hilarious.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/7/18 4:53pm Dutchman Jan:

have to go now, wonderfull show so far, thanks Otis. I'll listen the next hour and next shows in the archives tomorrow! bye!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/7/18 4:56pm Rich in Washington:

Holy Cow this song rules!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/7/18 4:58pm Rich in Washington:

Thanks Otis! Bye
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/7/18 5:12pm Rich in Washington:

The original Hot Butter version might be one of the first weird songs I really loved - that got my attention. I remember it popping up (heh) often on the AM station my mom had on often when I was very little.

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/7/18 5:16pm Rich in Washington:

I'm confused. Isn't there another 45 minutes to go? Am I in a temporal fractal timezone again?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/7/18 5:16pm Otis Fodder:

Ha, yes, 45min left. Funky Kinky is leaving people running for air.

Avatar Fri. 12/7/18 5:34pm Don-O:

Rich, this year, I see almost all the records that I can't afford, either. Havin' a rub-in-your-face X-mas!

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/7/18 5:37pm Rich in Washington:

I got to spin that ECC once at a huge record rummage sale and our station's Hip Hop programming director came running across the hall "WHAT IS THAT!!! I NEED THAT!!!"
Avatar Fri. 12/7/18 5:37pm Don-O:

I already did over the weekend. I got the playlist up and ready to be updated/added/etc.
