Postwar atmospherica. High bop modernism and Afro-Latin sounds, twilight exotica and soundtrack moods, soul stompers and weepers, hypnotic R&B and blues, mystical '60s pop, lonely country, lonelier rock 'n' roll, instrumental weirdness, electronic creaking. Bringing worlds beyond into the worlds at hand.

Hello Danny! Flaming Friends!
Avatar 10:03pm coelacanth∅:

funny you're playing an elevators song, as chresti just made reference to an elevators song on a different album
Avatar 10:04pm Little Danny:

It's a glorious mess, Flash, filled with moments of brilliance and breakdown
Avatar 10:04pm Little Danny:

Heya all!
  10:05pm Dean:

Television channeled (pun, whatever) by R. Stevie Moore?
Avatar 10:05pm coelacanth∅:

...speaking of glorious messes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06pm chresti:

wow rehearsal!
  10:07pm Dean:

"Cadillac" is one of those lyric words that almost automatically catapults you into the orbit of poetry.
Avatar 10:07pm Little Danny:

Television in their glorious Richard Hell period, VU in their veins
Avatar 10:08pm Kris Holmes:

Tuned in
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08pm chresti:

hence the year in hell? Wow!
Avatar 10:10pm Little Danny:

Kris Holmes. Lovely to have ya here
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10pm chresti:

  10:11pm Dean:

But that's Rimbaud, he proclaims pedantically.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12pm melinda:

hi group
  10:12pm zonk ludlow:

Hello to you LD and all others attentive to the flame. Loving the shambolic nature thus far.
Avatar 10:12pm Kris Holmes:

Mate, I rarely miss it but I also rarely have the comments on heh listening incognito
Avatar 10:14pm Flash Strap:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18pm chresti:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18pm chresti:

an' git!
Avatar 10:20pm Little Danny:

and hello new arrivals!
Avatar 10:21pm Little Danny:

I know, that track was a source of obsession for me at one point
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21pm JtotheK:

hello danny. good evening - everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21pm doctorjazz:

Good morning from Vietnam! Quick Blue Flame recharge before venturing out into the heat!
Avatar 10:23pm Little Danny:

Holy crap, Doc! So jealous. How long you over there?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26pm doctorjazz:

A week in Thailand (I including rediculously long flights) about 2 weeks Vietnam. Been great!
Avatar 10:31pm northguineahills:

palabara, mis amigos!
Avatar 10:32pm northguineahills:

(it took 15 mins for the msg to wander around and get to the comments board.
Avatar 10:33pm northguineahills:

jelly too, it's been 7 years since I've been on vacation. I'll live vicariously through you (bring back vinyl, or at least recordings....).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38pm JtotheK:

that Ray Terrace was new to me ... looked up the LP and if the Get On Up and Listen to Me tracks are Esquires covers ... must listen!
  10:43pm Dean:

My daughter just said, "Cricket!"
Avatar 10:45pm northguineahills:

@Dean: But I'm too tired to play a 5 day test of cricket.....
  10:48pm Dean:

Even though I have two copies of Roy Harper's informative record, I had to look that up.

Actually, "Cricket!" reminds me of the scene in Brideshead Revisited in which Sebastian's father mocks a friend. I like BR, not least, because I can see the window of the office where I worked on semester at Oxford in passing scenes.
  10:50pm Dean:

Why is volume so low?
  10:52pm Dean:

Frankly, I prefer later Television. The '74 track wasn't nearly as "primal" as that first LP or, for that matter, the second.
Avatar 10:53pm Little Danny:

Huh. Volume low during my mic set?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm chresti:

I appreciate trivia- go ahead and spill out your knowledge
Richard Hell was breaking down too it sounded like
  10:54pm Dean:

Yes. Volume's up now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55pm chresti:

What a great voice, Betty
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57pm chresti:

Dean- always fun to see familiar locations on the screen
Avatar 10:58pm Little Danny:

@Dean: Oof, thanks. I love all Television, but no way does the LP version sound as cranked out as the '74 rehearsal
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm JtotheK:

@dean - been a while since we've chatted about beers ... but last week i had my first 'celebration ale' of the season and enjoyed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00pm chresti:

Maybe he'd like croquet @Dean
  11:02pm Dean:

Right, chresti. I am generally disposed against cinema. I don't like movies, so there. But I love the idea of watching movies about LA, for instance, if only to see places I've been! Dorky, but true.

First Television album is exactly the opposite of "cranked out," which is why it was so friggin' primal. Any group of kids could make noise like the '74 crew. Not so the later, evidently well rehearsed, band.

JtotheK: Look for Claimstake triple IPA. Really good.
Avatar 11:04pm Little Danny:

Dude Dean we are definitely working with vastly different definitions here
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04pm chresti:

oh yeah
We'll watch old movies on you tube to spot locals, Panic in the year Zero, is one
  11:05pm Dean:

Yep. Love it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05pm JtotheK:

not sure if claimstake can be found around here, there are a few spots i could check for it though - thanks for the tip!
  11:05pm Dean:

OTOH, Khan Jamal. We are exactly coterminous in that regard.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07pm chresti:

where JtotheK?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08pm JtotheK:

Avatar 11:10pm Dano59:

Hello Flamers ...
@Dean: the Bradbury building is a setting in both the original "D.O.A." and "Blade Runner" !
Avatar 11:11pm Dano59:

LD: loved hearing a 'Nature Boy' I hadn't before.
  11:12pm Dean:

I worked downtown for a few years, but foolishly never made it to the Bradbury building.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13pm chresti:

what kind of world do you desire? it reminds me of Night Owl
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14pm chresti:

ngh-my fingers swim around before my comment appears
Avatar 11:14pm Little Danny:

Heya Dano! That was one of the most haunting versions ever
Avatar 11:14pm Dano59:

@doctorjazz: avoid any famililar-sounding LPs on the 'First' label. They were popular cheapies for GIs during the conflict.
  11:15pm Dean:

Okay, jttothek, I'd go for the Central Waters barleywine here: http://www.romanspub.com/beersel.htm
Avatar 11:16pm Dano59:

Idiophones! Two of 'em!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18pm chresti:

Avatar 11:20pm Little Danny:

I really like this album for many reasons but especially that each track uses odd combinations of odd instruments in very appealing ways, and that each track is named for the instruments that comprise it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22pm chresti:

I owe Dano59 a beer
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26pm chresti:

oh boy! This is crazy-good
Avatar 11:29pm Dano59:

agree. mr, popeye!
  11:34pm Dean:

Khan Jamal's album with Sun Ra is among my top three favorite records.
  11:36pm Dean:

Sound is good now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38pm chresti:

  11:55pm zonk ludlow:

You'll be first to know.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56pm JtotheK:

enjoyed the show. thanks for the tunes Danny! cheers everyone.
  11:58pm Johnzon:

that song was a cool concept why aren't there more "fuck off stop bugging me why can't we just be friends you fucking asshole I wanted to be friends with you before you started being a creep" songs... I feel like it's very relevant lol.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01am chresti:

Thanks Danny! I had a great time! Good nights to yous!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02am chresti:

haha Johnzon!
