Avatar 5:41pm Brian in UK:

Hey Bill, too much for my mirror tonight.
Avatar 6:43pm Bill Mac:

No worries Brian! Catch you soon... Saturday perhaps?
Avatar 7:01pm northguineahills:

I thought this was Bob James w/ Bob Ashley.....
Avatar 7:04pm Sem:

Hello, Bill, BiUK, ngh, lurking Zzzzzzeroheads, and like that.
  7:04pm Dean:

Heh, just bought this Dagar record last week, along with its companion.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:05pm chresti:

Avatar 7:05pm Sem:

Ah, Brian time-shifted me there. No worries.
Avatar 7:07pm Bill Mac:

But isn't he always about 4 minutes ahead of us? Hiya heads, glad to see ya!
Avatar 7:07pm Sem:

True, that.
Avatar 7:08pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Glad you're back, Bill...
Avatar 7:09pm northguineahills:

I thought Sem was an hour ahead of us on the US east coast?
Avatar 7:10pm Sem:

Right you are, ngh. Atlantic time. like much of South America.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:10pm coelacanth∅:

allow me to highlight some important new york vocabulary words.
first word: Zzzzzzero hour. Zzzzzzero hour is pretty much 24/7, depending who you are...or at least within a new york minute...which is minute.

- hi Bill and relative Zzzzzzeros
Avatar 7:11pm Sem:

Greets, coel.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:13pm coelacanth∅:

hey Sem!
Avatar 7:14pm northguineahills:

@Sem: and Puerto Rico....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:15pm coelacanth∅:

nova scotia
Avatar 7:17pm Bill Mac:

Nice night for some haggis yes?
Avatar 7:17pm Sem:

But not Newfoundland.
It's 1971 there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:17pm coelacanth∅:

...or am i confused
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:17pm Rich in Washington:

Oh wow. I was just listening to this this morning on my way to work.
Avatar 7:19pm Sem:

Coming up to haggis-eating time. I hear there's a vegan alternative. So, no stomach, I guess...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:19pm chresti:

is New York Minute faster than a minute?
Avatar 7:19pm Sweet Essence of Giraffe.:

Thx for this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:20pm coelacanth∅:

what time in 1971?
Avatar 7:22pm Sweet Essence of Giraffe.:

11:30 on a Saturday night, when the mason jars of clear fluid make their appearance, w/ everybody singing Harry Hibbs songs and destroying the squeeze boxes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:23pm chresti:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:23pm coelacanth∅:

chresti it's the amount of time a new yorker gives you if you say you need a minute - which is about zzzzzzero seconds.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:25pm chresti:

Ah! I've always had this impression that everything is faster in New York
Avatar 7:26pm northguineahills:

I've never been yo 1971....yet....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:26pm coelacanth∅:

Sweet Essence it's also time to get into your chevy vega 2-cylinder coupe and head to gino's
Avatar 7:28pm Sem:

Heh heh. Over-powered Vega at that.
Avatar 7:30pm Sem:

1966 in Brasil.
Avatar 7:30pm northguineahills:

Music Man was a fave of one as a kid. Probably why the monorail episode on the Simpsons resonated w/ me (right when I started get into my critical thinking skills about cinema/tv, well, everything.)
Avatar 7:30pm glenn:

foe coelacanth, per earlier discussion. www.youtube.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31pm chresti:

Are there Vegas in Newfoundland?
Avatar 7:31pm northguineahills:

The arms, or does brazoes have a different connotation in Portuguese?
  7:31pm rw:

Zzzzzero Hour??? It’s wacky Wednesday. Hey Bill!
Avatar 7:32pm northguineahills:

@Sem: Too true, Sem, too true....
Avatar 7:33pm Sem:

Salt spray destroys cars there, Vegas would be rust overnight, chresti.
Avatar 7:34pm northguineahills:

(about Brasil)
Avatar 7:36pm Sem:

Los Speakers (the Speakers) from Bogotá, Colombia, were a beat and garage rock band active the 1960s. Their particular style was characterized by the influence of early Beatles and the Byrds , as well as other popular music of the era. via wikithingy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:36pm chresti:

Northern explorer music is fine as well
Avatar 7:43pm Sem:

Conjuring Stanley, are you, Bill?
Avatar 7:43pm northguineahills:

New Yoko! (My fave NY!)
Avatar 7:44pm Bill Mac:

Heh.... cranky Stanley given the material
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:46pm chresti:

Southern California (away from the ocean) is a good place for old cars, @Sem
Avatar 7:49pm Sem:

Heard that was so, chresti. You there?
Avatar 7:49pm northguineahills:

The Mariana Trench isn't usually a good place for cars....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:50pm chresti:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:51pm chresti:

Yeah ngh, anywhere close to the ocean with the damp, salty air
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:53pm chresti:

(although I thought you said Marina Trench)
Avatar 7:53pm Sem:

Sincerest form of flattery.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54pm chresti:

Kudos to the image enabler!
Avatar 7:56pm Sem:

A rousing first hour. See you Saturday, Bill. Thanks for the album covers, Maxine. Later, all, and to all a goodnight.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:57pm chresti:

'night Sem!
Avatar 7:58pm Bill Mac:

Thanks Sem!!! Saturday!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:58pm coelacanth∅:

'night Sem.

glenn Thanks. i've bookmarked that. (i may be judgemental but i'm not closed-minded!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:21pm chresti:

Enjoying the show!
Avatar 8:23pm Bill Mac:

Thanks Chresti! I know you're out there!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23pm chresti:

I'm plugged in now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:29pm chresti:

I'm liking Ixna
Avatar 8:29pm northguineahills:

Ok, leaving work, hear ya at home!
  8:42pm rw:

Just got home from work. Hi again!
  8:43pm rw:

WFMU T-shirts make good Christmas gifts, right?
Avatar 8:44pm Bill Mac:

They're unique to say the least!
  8:45pm rw:

Diplomatic answer Mr. Mac.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:47pm chresti:

Totally right rw.
Avatar 8:48pm Bill Mac:

I think for the most part our shirts make the man, or woman. They're not properly dressed unless they're wearing the WFMU brand..... how's that?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:50pm chresti:

Ixna sounded Amazonian esp. with the vocal and percussion sounds

That cat is a winner all around
  8:51pm rw:

Better. Thanks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:52pm chresti:

I think it's a great gift idea-
Avatar 8:52pm northguineahills:

Ok, back! Had a spider crawl across my forehead when crossing a major intersection. It tickled. I got it to the passenger seat.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:53pm chresti:

I run in to spiders at work
Avatar 8:56pm northguineahills:

I try to just walk into spiders (w/o hurting them).
Avatar 9:03pm Franco Twinkie:

Did Jerry get hit on the head at some time?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:05pm poking head up∅:

is it over?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07pm coelacanth∅:

i know it's over now that i hear your micbreak serenade.
Avatar 9:08pm northguineahills:

Irwin may annoy us from time to time, but damn, he does brilliant work and archiving treasures
Avatar 9:08pm Bill Mac:

No doubt...... really autotune?!!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08pm chresti:

I don't know Irwin.
  9:09pm Dean:

Everybody should get to know Irwin. Fans of Sun Ra, for instance. Fans of adverbs, not so much.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09pm coelacanth∅:

i did have to turn that off, but i also had to look to see if it was Danny Kaye's album "mommy, gimme a drink of water" that i was tortured with as an infant.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10pm chresti:

ew ( autotunes )
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11pm chresti:

Sun Ra, I'm in
Avatar 9:11pm Bill Mac:

Hi Dean, I agree... he's majorly responsible for the slanted ethos of what this place is about.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:12pm coelacanth∅:

Great Scott!
  9:12pm Dean:

Most definitely, absolutely.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13pm chresti:

Sounds very very interesting
  9:14pm Dean:

Here's a cross-section of Irwin: http://irwin.wfmu.org/projects/
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17pm chresti:

He's a mover and a shaker?
  9:19pm Dean:

And a drummer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20pm coelacanth∅:

he's about a mover, and definitely a shaker.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21pm coelacanth∅:

...a drummer that knows that Buddy Miles is terrible - which many people seem to not realise.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21pm chresti:

an arbiter? Oh, a drummer!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24pm coelacanth∅:

possibly the first, but one of the first cassettes i ever recorded off wfmu is Irwin almost 40 years ago playing fast punkrock, which people don't associate with him much now.
  9:26pm rw:

Buddy Miles is terrible? I've never really paid attention. My friend Michael's getting the Gary Panter shirt for Xmas. Please don't let the cat out of the bag.
Avatar 9:26pm Bill Mac:

In the vault....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28pm coelacanth∅:

rw, those are not his words. i was considerably more specific than that, and Irwin agreed.
  9:29pm Dean:

Irwin plays lots of daring stuff, but also lots of stuff I'd characterize as MOR, e.g., today's spin of Gene Harris (admittedly, one of Harris' earlier Concord records, a bit more punchy than the later stuff). He seems on the one hand to be quite particular and discerning, on the other a bit reactionary. Hard to figure him out. But I'm not much into figuring out people. I just know I learn a ton from him.
  9:29pm Dean:

Also, being discerning and reactionary are not mutually exclusive characteristics.
Avatar 9:30pm Bill Mac:

I'd say it's his fault that the Jerry Solomon recrod is here...
  9:31pm Dean:

"his fault": a backhanded accusation
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31pm coelacanth∅:

Avatar 9:32pm northguineahills:

autotune usually only works for me if it's Maghrebi.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32pm coelacanth∅:

...and this particular bed music was used by either Irwin or Ken (i think Ken) going back to the 80s
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33pm chresti:

OK I'm getting a clear picture now. I learned about Billy Cobham from a drummer friend who was briefly a DJ in the 70s
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34pm chresti:

yay rude bwoy!
  9:34pm Dean:

Cobham is certainly a source of disagreement, too. I don't know enough to know better.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36pm coelacanth∅:

i have to listen to that swamp dog track again. i was torn about it while it was on. i like other swamp dog.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36pm chresti:

Walker went nuts?
I only know his Mahavishnu, Cobham
Avatar 9:37pm Franco Twinkie:

Look, everybody had an allergic reaction to Jerry Solomon, not Erwin. There's ways to be creepy and interesting, otherwise you're just creepy....and kind of stupid as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37pm chresti:

He's fast, that's what my friend was taken with
  9:38pm Dean:

Everybody? I entirely enjoyed the Solomon. To my mind, there are no (aesthetic) limits to creepy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38pm coelacanth∅:

("total destruction to your mind" comes to mind)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38pm chresti:

yay! Flamenco!
  9:38pm Johnzon:

enjoying the show mr. mack! sending you a digital thought rose
Avatar 9:38pm Bill Mac:

@Dean I know? Isn't it great!
  9:39pm Dean:

Except maybe The Mentor's "Woman from Sodom," which makes me blush.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39pm Uncle Michael:

  9:39pm Funky16corners:

Good evening!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39pm chresti:

Dean, agree
Avatar 9:41pm Bill Mac:

Johnzon AND UW?! Hallelujah... und Funky 16 Corners... hola!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41pm coelacanth∅:

creepy never crossed my mind. i was intolerably annoyed and walked across the kitchen just to turn it off. it was threatening my mood! aside from the main line i didn't hear what he was saying. not worth it.
  9:42pm Funky16corners:

I’ll be following Bill at 10PM with much Bo Diddley on Testify! wfmu.org/playlists/shows/82840
  9:43pm Dean:

Sometimes I listen to music I ordinarily like--Bruckner comes to mind--and at that moment it disturbs me for one reason or another, and I turn it off.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43pm coelacanth∅:

...actually if i'd heard how creepy it is i might've liked it much more!
Avatar 9:46pm Bill Mac:

Cretainly wasn't the most stellar offering of the evening, but that's the point I guess...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50pm coelacanth∅:

my tolerance to "weird" music is certainly as high as any human's; but like every conscious person there are certain things i don't like. some things the majority of weird-music-liking people like. and yes it depends where i'm at sometimes.
maybe i didn't get something because i was in the cooking food zone.
  9:55pm Funky16corners:

This is cool. There’s a Leon Russell side project called the Spotlights that did a 45 called ‘Dayflower’ which was a mashup of Wildwood Flower and Day Tripper. Similar vibe
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55pm coelacanth∅:

rest in peace Mr.Clark
Avatar 9:57pm Franco Twinkie:

Okay, in all fairness. it was his tone more that the content that bugged me. kind of Look At My Boogers.
  9:58pm rw:

I know that sound. Thanks for the latest chapter Mr. Mac! See you Saturday!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59pm coelacanth∅:

i just backed-up and listened to maybe 30 seconds of that track and it's not creepy to me. it's just annoying! he's trying hard to be weird and his singing is abominable!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00pm chresti:

Thanks Bill!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00pm coelacanth∅:

Thank you Bill!
