Hello and good evening, David.

Hello!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm redkayak:

Howdy all :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm kuba:

honk honk
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm David D:

Hey there Sem, Chresti, Redkayak....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm David D:

Honk back atcha, Kuba
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm steveo:

hello, hello, glad to be here for the show
Avatar 3:04pm northguineahills:

Eating lunch at home, moar ramen!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm David D:

Glad to have you here, Steveo
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm David D:

Ramen to that, NGH
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm redkayak:

A couple more and we can field a softball team :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm David D:

Today's virtual picnic can come with a viritual softball game and virtual beer after.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm redkayak:

@david - sounds good coach!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm steveo:

the rabbi and his theremin?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm David D:

Sounds like a theramin but I believe it's a saw.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm steveo:

oh i was afraid of that, I often get them confused :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm Carmichael:

The world/celtic band Boiled in Lead plays this tune. They call it Serbian Kolo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm David D:

Thanks, Carmichael, I'll have to look for that. The tune goes by a few different names in fact.
Avatar 3:20pm northguineahills:

@David: And may the FSM be w/ you!
Avatar 3:33pm fred:

Good evening David and all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm David D:

Good evening, Fred!
Avatar 3:35pm northguineahills:

a rabbi and his theremin sounds like a neo-contructivist film from the 60s.....
Avatar 3:35pm Sem:

Hello, fred. I read the news from France...
Avatar 3:36pm northguineahills:

Those wind chimes remind me of Espers….
Avatar 3:40pm fred:

@Sem: You mean the clashes the past two Saturdays and roadblocks?
Avatar 3:41pm Sem:

Yes, wondering if it IS as bad as it is being portrayed in the MSM.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm Stanley:

(Exits toilet) Has the ticket inspector passed already?
Good, I'll go sit down
Avatar 3:45pm fred:

@Sem: Probably not. The roadblocks are definitely not a new thing, and there have been violent clashes before (farmers, fishermen, or truckers). What's new is that they trash a big tourist spot instead of a smaller town, so it gets reported outside of France
Avatar 3:46pm northguineahills:

Icelandic chorales in my subway? It's more likely then you think!

Careful Sem, MSM is a dirty word south of the border for some folks (w/ different intent then your context).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm David D:

All clear, Stanley!
Avatar 3:49pm Sem:

Thanks for that, fred.

NGH: noted, appreciated.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm steveo:

lovely was the mansönger
Avatar 3:54pm fred:

@Sem: Come to think of it, the playbook is actually well established for such movements: pick a color and a garment for a name. It was red hats a few years ago, this time the fashion settled on yellow vests (I would have preferred yellow jackets as a translation, but that's just me). It could evolve into a Tea Party thing though, especially when they go hunting for immigrants.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm redkayak:

@fred - Thanks for this. I have been trying to figure out what's what. Are the political lines blurry or are my glasses old?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm Stanley:

fred - I thought gilets were more 'waistcoats' than jackets
Avatar 4:01pm fred:

@redkayak: They are blurry, but this could be an opportunity for the nationalist self-proclaimed leader of the left to finally join the far-right. Ego is the main reason it hasn't happened yet, he won't play second fiddle, and neither will Le Pen
Avatar 4:02pm fred:

@Stanley: Sure, but I was thinking of the wasps. What they refer to is a yellow reflective thing car drivers has supposed to wear when stopping on the side of the road
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm Stanley:

Not exactly waistcoats then, more hi-vis safety wear
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm redkayak:

@fred - interesting. Seems like an uneasy coalition, but there are times when I could imagine such things in the US. Ay yi yi. Well, I hope that calm soon prevails.....
Avatar 4:06pm fred:

@Stanley: the goal is to mark them as pissed off car drivers who are tired of gas taxes (and ecological stuff that gets in their way)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm Webhamster Henry:

Playing a little from the White Album here... actually back in the USSR, or what's left of it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm Stanley:

This is sweet
Avatar 4:09pm βrian:

Salut, les auditeurs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm David D:

Greetings, βrian!
Avatar 4:15pm βrian:

Emmylou Harris has a different take on this.
Avatar 4:18pm monkeyz:

evening david et al
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm David D:

Hey there, Monkeyz!
Avatar 4:25pm northguineahills:

Less loafing, back at work (loafing will still commence).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm David D:

Webhamster Henry: Yes, indeed - good connection there!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm David D:

Sorry, I'm a bit behind on the comments, apparently...
Avatar 4:32pm northguineahills:

It's weird rush hour here starts at 16:00 here, I'm used 17ish. It took me twice as long to get home from lunch as it usually does to get here in the morning (part of the reason I don't get here until 10:00/
Avatar 4:33pm βrian:

@NGH: In WI, too. And it's over by 6:15 or so.
Avatar 4:33pm βrian:

David D Does December.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm David D:

Definitely!
Avatar 4:35pm βrian:

Decidedly!
Avatar 4:37pm βrian:

Hopping on the Metro. See ya.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm David D:

Take care, βrian
Avatar 4:46pm northguineahills:

In NYC, even w/ gov't jobs, I wouldn't get off (and Census Bureau insisted you leave then, unless OT was granted) until 18:30. Do people get to work at 6am?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm David D:

NGH: Well I certainly don't.
Avatar 4:50pm northguineahills:

David D Does December en Deutsche.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm David D:

This show is brought to you by the letter D.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm chresti:

D-lightful
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:03pm David D:

D-anke!
Avatar 5:06pm Brian in UK:

Hello David and those looking for the quiet coach!

@Stanley at 4:03 if you are still awake. As you may well know hi-vis jackets must be on board cars in France. So that might come into the equation. Heck some just like fight in the name of freedom..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm David D:

Good evening, Brian!
Avatar 5:10pm Brian in UK:

Who is for a fight in the name of FREEFORM? We are a modest, motley crowd after all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm fleep:

Good afternoon from L.A., David D.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:12pm David D:

Good afternoon over there, fleep.
Avatar 5:15pm Brian in UK:

Charlie Watts briefly had a tentet a few years ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm David D:

They could have a tête à tête.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm Parq:

Hi, David and troops. I've had mishaps lately in trying to listen to this show at work (we have a terribly outdated version of Java) but I'm'a giving it a go.
Avatar 5:18pm fred:

I think Peter Brötzmann had one too, and that it featured Joe McPhee (might have been an octet though)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm David D:

Hello Parq - hope it works out...
Avatar 5:20pm Brian in UK:

How do you get them all on a small (for it is jazz) stage.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22pm David D:

Well this "Tettet" only had six members, for what it's worth.
Avatar 5:24pm northguineahills:

Brotzmann had a nonet at least....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm Webhamster Henry:

I saw two original one-of-a-kind Hang hand pans yesterday.
Avatar 5:26pm Brian in UK:

A Hang is an uncool Calabash.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm Webhamster Henry:

I good friend of mine makes a version of them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm Parq:

Just took my afternoon news break. God, I can only begin to imagine what the U.S. must look like nowadays to informed, compassionate people in the rest of the world.
Avatar 5:28pm northguineahills:

MD and DC just released 12 subpoenas for the various entities of the Trump Org....
Avatar 5:29pm fred:

Apparently Brötzmann had both an octet and a tentet with Joe McPhee: joemcphee.com...
Avatar 5:29pm Brian in UK:

@WH no offense. Are they of Swiss origin?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm Stanley:

Hi Brian. Nowadays, if you want to go unnoticed, wear a hi-vis jacket
Avatar 5:32pm Sem:

I thought when you wanted to go unnoticed, you hid in the lavatory until the ticket inspector went by.
Avatar 5:33pm fred:

Or maybe that's only when you want to go unticketed
Avatar 5:33pm Brian in UK:

@Stanley been seriously gigless here in the country. Yearning for some live music.
Avatar 5:34pm fred:

@Brian: Are there no shows around where your are, or just none that seem interesting?
Avatar 5:36pm Sem:

Excellent point, fred.

Not a Weezer fan, Brian? At the Met on the 8th.
Avatar 5:37pm Sem:

Shrewsbury, NJ. Ohh...that's not a help.
Avatar 5:38pm Brian in UK:

fred. No real shows, the recent highlight was an organ recital ni the local church. Chuch organs are wonderous things. We are fifty kilometres fron Birmingham.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm David D:

Brian: How did the move go?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm Webhamster Henry:

@Brian in the UK : "Real " Hangs stopped being made abut 5 years ago, indeed they are from Switzerland. I think if you wanted one, you had to fly over there and they'd interview you to see if you were worthy.
Avatar 5:40pm βrian:

Bussed, shopped, and fed the kitty, so I'm back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm David D:

Henry: What if you've just got the hang?
Avatar 5:42pm fred:

@Brian: Maybe you'll have to throw a festival then (I actually know two separate people who now do that in the summer after moving to isolated but cheap countryside locations)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm Stanley:

I feel ya, Brian. However, it hasn't been that interesting up here, either, since Colin Stetson. The only thing in my sights is The Residents in Glasgow in February.
Avatar 5:42pm Brian in UK:

David we are setttled but underestimated the work needed, story of my life.
No longer looking at the house across the road. Lovely view, you might get to see it one day!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43pm David D:

I'd love to, thanks Brian!
Avatar 5:44pm βrian:

My next show will be The Tallis Scholars. Looking forward to that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm Stanley:

Stanley & The Ten Sleepless (K)nights - yep that's just about right, David.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm David D:

Stanley, thought you might like that.
Avatar 5:45pm Brian in UK:

@βrian is that Thomas Tallis?
Avatar 5:46pm fred:

@Stanley: That's surprising to me, Glasgow had a thriving noise/experimental scene not so long ago, is it gone? Then again maybe that's not your thing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm Stanley:

Also, Quelbe is a new one on me
Avatar 5:48pm βrian:

@BUK: Well, not THE Thomas Tallis, but eponymously, yes.
Avatar 5:48pm Brian in UK:

Daid, loving Melos, is this a comp?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49pm Stanley:

fred - unfortunately my gig going pal no longer lives there, so I'm a bit out of the loop. I have made it to a few interesting gigs of that ilk, in the past.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm Stanley:

fred - Edinburgh, where I live, can be a bit dull
Avatar 5:51pm Sem:

Glad to have been along for the show, David. Thank you. Hope to see you and all next time.

FYI: I see our national broadcaster has decided not to play Baby, It's Cold Outside on the radio network anymore. Good grief.
Avatar 5:54pm βrian:

@Sem: ... due to climate change?
Avatar 5:54pm Brian in UK:

@ βrian hope it is in a good ascoustic setting. The purity of the human voice.
Avatar 5:55pm fred:

@Stanley: I have had a bunch of former colleagues moving to Edinburgh for postdocs, so I thought it was a college town. Then again, they didn't remain there for long
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm Stanley:

fred - four universities but few decent venues
Avatar 5:59pm βrian:

I've seen them at least 5 times, and they've always performed in small venues with good acoustics. Once they were divided between the front and back of a chapel for a responsorial piece. So beautiful.
Avatar 5:59pm fred:

Thanks David
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:00pm David D:

Brian: Melos is a project led by Keyvan Chemirani. I think there is just the one album in that formation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:01pm David D:

Thanks for listening, Fred and Sem...
Avatar 6:01pm fred:

I'm signing off, many shows there days demand catching up on that sleep thing
Avatar 6:02pm Brian in UK:

I saw John Dikeman play with William Parker and Hamid Drake. It felt he was reaching for the stars when he played, the other two cool as cucumbers. Could not take my eyes off the drummer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:07pm David D:

When I saw him last week, the whole trio was on fire.
Avatar 6:09pm northguineahills:

I needed some fire. Technical difficulties at work all day....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:10pm David D:

Sorry, NGH, hope this burns away some of it.
Avatar 6:15pm Brian in UK:

Obscure Fluctuations indeed.
Enjoyed the last hour. Au revoir.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:16pm David D:

Thanks Brian, bonne nuit...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:33pm chresti:

Brian in UK reminded me why to go see live music
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35pm David D:

Chresti: True, there is so much more to take in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35pm chresti:

I like to watch drummers in action
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:38pm chresti:

Especially in smaller venues
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39pm Webhamster Henry:

This is indeed rather dreamlike.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39pm David D:

At the Dikeman et al. show last week, there was action all across the stage.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:42pm David D:

It could all be a dream...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:49pm chresti:

Ain"t that the way it goes...just when things start to roll, you have to jump off!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:55pm David D:

Thanks Chresti, I'm happy to jump and make way for Jesse, coming up next...
Avatar 6:56pm northguineahills:

glucklich danks, David!
Avatar 6:57pm βrian:

Ok, David D, the Decidedly Decemberist DJ, I'm out. Thanks for the tour.
