Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

"Take him down to Quincy

He will find what killed him, in-stant-ly!"

There's a broken link to the Quincy, Illinois Wikipedia page. Here's the link https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quincy,_Illinois
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm listener james from westwood:

(there was a video that added lyrics to the theme circulating, not sure if it's still up, but those were some)

When I saw brief moments of Quincy MD, I couldn't take Klugman or the show seriously at ALL. He was fine as TV Oscar, but...

@hyde: That might be the only episode of Quincy MD that I've watched all the way through. Brilliant. Right up there with the CPO Sharkey punk episode and almost as good as the CHiPs punk episode.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm Uncle Michael:

Sem, Cold Turkey?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm Funky16Corners:

The CPO Sharkey ep had the Dickies in it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm Rich in Washington:

The Diff'rent Strokes punk episode where Arnold runs away to live in a Lower East Side squat and Willis becomes a skinhead...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm Uncle Michael:

Ballad and J&Y and Waiting For the End of the World are cousins.

That Stiff doc is fantastic. I love its fly on the wall approach.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm Granny Spicy Tuna:

I like to imagine it's UM yodeling
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm Uncle Michael:

so do I
Avatar 12:21pm still b/p:

I'll tell ya some weird TV shit: I learned yesterday I have sisters and nieces who LOVE....who are ADDICTED to...Hallmark channel holiday movies. They love the sappiness, the fact that you can fall asleep for part of one and rely on the predictability and formula to let you feel still up to speed, and another one just like it is coming right up anyway. One sister feared a drinking game based on the blizzards of cliches would lead to dangerous drunkenness among viewing party friends, so she adjusted to trope-bingo and other alternatives.
  12:22pm dan:

@Still b/p

Those films can be predicted before the credits begin rolling.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm Granny Spicy Tuna:

Yodeling across the cliffs and canyons of Topeka!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm Funky16Corners:

Those Hallmark Channel movies are piles of what I like to call 'TV sweepings", i.e. leftover actors from old shows.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm doctorjazz:

I guess this Junk) answers the question about the White Album remix...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm annie:

i can scroll through channels on the tube andi just KNOW which are the hallmark channels. the screen has a special glow, almost.. ...
  12:24pm dan:

And actors from Canada because they film up there for tax break purposes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm Funky16Corners:

I have this Balloon Busters 45!
  12:25pm dan:

BAD actors from Canada I might add
Avatar 12:25pm still b/p:

Actors earning their Christmas money. Beats retail.
Avatar 12:26pm Sem:

Working bad actors, I'll have you know.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm Rich in Washington:

My wide recently went on a very articulate and emphatic rant about the horribleness of Hallmark movies and now I want to see at least one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm Stanley:

  12:28pm dan:

@still b/p and sem
Actors who I can't understand passed acting school.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm Granny Spicy Tuna:

Sometimes it seems like UM is the engineer on a little toy train moving through a theme park of songs in different settings. We are now moving slowly through a cathedral…
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm Funky16Corners:

@Doc @12:26 - It's about two real aviators!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm Granny Spicy Tuna:

And now we enter the dance cave with the disco ball!
Avatar 12:31pm Sem:

@dan: never thought about grades being an issue at acting school. Wonder what that report card would like. "Remedial emoting suggested?"
Avatar 12:31pm Sem:

Quite the post-Thanksgiving menu on offer here, UM. Tasty plus.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm Granny Spicy Tuna:

The dance cave is in the shipping area of a huge superstore.
  12:32pm dan:

That would make a great satire on bad acting. "Remedial emoting suggested".
12:32pm Jeff g., sleeping it off:

Nicely done, sir.
  12:34pm dan:

Q104.3 in NYC is having their annual Top 1043 songs list, which includes the same songs year after year, leading up to Stairway to Heaven being at #1. Needless to say, this is the first time in 15 years that I'm not listening to it.

Looking up credits to see if Michael McDonald was doing background vocals again for SD on Don't Take Me Alive (he was), I did other internets bouncing to see that Songfacts has a goofy concept of "facts," and elsewhere saw that the Eagles line "stabbed it with their steely knives" is kind of a shout-out to SD.

Damnation... sounds like a knock off of The Raspberries or Humble Pie.
  1:21pm Dean:

It may very well be that DoAB is the band I recall seeing a zillion years ago on Real Don Steele's TV show. I've always remembered the name as Angel's Damnation, which is arguably a perversion of DoAB.

You talkin' to me? I've tried to figure out who appeared on the Steele show for years. I remember "Damnation" being part of the name, vaguely recall it as "Angel's Damnation." Now I'm thinking you've solved the conundrum. It was the band you played.

"yurts' on fire!"
Avatar 1:57pm Franco Twinkie:

We had a good blast of rain in Cali Thursday morning. Hopefully that shit is over for awhile.
  1:57pm dan:

The Day The Earth Caught Fire sounds like the theme to a MST3K film.
Avatar 2:01pm Franco Twinkie:

From '72 to about '76 Flo And Eddie ruled around here. They were everywhere all the time. I love those guys.
  2:03pm chresti:

With more rain, we’ll need songs about mud
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03pm Uncle Michael:

Holy shit this melody...Justin and John....damn.
  2:04pm dan:

The Moody Blues were and still are musical geniuses.
  2:04pm Dean:

Picked up this album a few months ago for two bucks. Used to listen to it for days at a time c.'75, when I'd borrow it from a friend.
Avatar 2:05pm Franco Twinkie:

Dean, clean air today?
  2:10pm dan:

I still think Ian Gillan is the best Jesus.
  2:12pm Dean:

Air in Portland is very clean! We left Berkeley the first day of rain. I expect perfect weather upon our return.

apropos of nothing at all, the population of beijing has fallen 22,000 people to 21.7 million.
Avatar 2:14pm glenn:

which is basically 60% of the population of canada.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm Uncle Michael:

That's a rounding error, glenn.
Avatar 2:15pm glenn:

a rounding error? ummmm, is there anything smaller, like, i don't know, a rhombusing error?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17pm Wendy del Formaggio:

This Trammps song gives me a fun family memory: My sister and I dancing to this song at a long-ago cousin's wedding, while also laughing at my dad and his cousins trying to dance to the tune. Ahh... Being mean and laughing at old people is a fine family tradition. I hope my niece and nephew laugh at me when I dance.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18pm Uncle Michael:

I promise they do, Wendy.

  2:39pm Dean:

Native of KC, too.
  2:40pm dan:

And the Lee siblings died 2 months apart in 1958
