Halo! Excellent N&M piece....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02pm Rich in Washington:

My mom must've been a closet Nichols and May fan. She always used to greet me the exact same way on the telephone, in a comically affected voice like that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm ɨkɛ:

Did people really once call their moms "honey"?! Or maybe that's a weird regional thing?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm Henry in Hopatcong:

Hello Scott!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm Bas NL:

Hi Scott and crew!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm Rich in Washington:

This is my favorite Nichols and May bit.
  3:11pm Pas Musique:

Hey hey!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Just wondering ... How many shows or years are needed before a person can be considered a "veteran DJ" at WFMU? Congrats and pixie dust to all who have achieved this distinguished milestone.
  3:13pm SeanG:

kickin' butt
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm Scott Williams:

Well hello there everyone! Thanks for hanging. @Ken, it happens without anyone noticing; suddenly you stop feeling like the new kid.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm Barney Grubbs:

I approve of the use of stereochemical descriptors as band and track names
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm ɨkɛ:

@KFHP, it's unclear precisely when conversion occurs, but once you are an Ancient One, the lesser beings of the free-form temple must bring fresh vinyl sacrifices to your altar in fealty while chanting your unholy vocal fry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm Rich in Washington:

When I think "veteran DJ", I think about having to endure hardships of community radio; overnight shifts with little evidence of listeners beyond one or two insane callers, the next DJ showing up, having to pull their slot, getting a great show slot cancelled and having to get to the back of the line for a regular show, spending time in 'radio jail' (suspension due to a FCC Safe Harbor violation), missing great live music happenings because it's happening on a show night, inter-station politics, etc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm Rich in Washington:

I meant next DJ NOT showing up in the above.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm Krys O.:

Rich in Washington, I fulfilled those criteria over 25 years ago, but there is no grandfather/grandmother clause.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm Krys O.:

Well, except for radio jail....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm steveo:

great Van Halen cover here (hi Scott)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm brycepunk1:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm Devin B.:

That was fun!
Avatar 3:57pm Chris from DC:

Preclickied. This album is a ripper.
  4:02pm Hi from Holland:

Gabi Penyvesi would be perfect for Sheila B :)
Avatar 4:04pm D. Lightfoot:

I'm OK. Are you all OK?
Avatar 4:09pm northguineahills:

For whatever reason, I really dug Gabi Penyesi (I was reading the Hungarian revolt of 1956, so, maybe that's why).
  4:15pm JakeGould:

Kick it, Scott!
Avatar 4:17pm Chris from DC:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm TomDash:

Hey Scott - great show! This is now the 3rd show I've heard this past week to spin the Blue Cheer mind-melter...and I am NOT complaining in the least!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm Scott Williams:

Thanks Tom! Yeah, those guys always flayed, and now they're in the new bin, so we'll get to hear more of 'em

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm Rob W:

The spectrum follower has its moment in the sun!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Note for suggestion box: Can there be a screening of A Clockwork Orange in Monty Hall some time?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm listener james from westwood:

The only time this soundtrack left my Walkman for spring semester, freshman year of college, was to put "The Man-Machine" or Numan's "The Pleasure Principle" in. I fell hard for synth.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm Webhamster Henry:

.. a screening WITHOUT the eye clamps, that is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Ohhhhhh... Da Memories!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Eye clamps optional, yes. Not mandatory.
Avatar 5:33pm TDK60:

Sorry I'm late.
  5:35pm mrmikestandsir:

there was the soundtrack to a clockwork Orange and then there was a separate release on Columbia of music that Wendy Carlos (then Walter) released that was all electronica interpretations of the classical compositions found on the soundtrack.
  5:37pm mrmikestandsir:

sorry not electronica… Electronic synt,hesizer
  5:37pm melinda:

Digging this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm Scott Williams:

@mrmikestandsir, I believe you're thinking of "Switched on Bach", a massive success
Avatar 5:43pm TDK60:

My dad had 'Switched On Bach,' the first popular synth album, maybe. '68?
Avatar 5:46pm northguineahills:

Gas's "Narcopop" also works for me

My thrifting days got me all of Walter/Wendy Carlos's recs, I love them all!

Great, very informative liner notes.
Swag For Life Member 5:49pm drew:

I thought it was Tuesday for a moment there. And it turns out it was a premium from Micah's show. I may spend too much time listening to WFMU . . .
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm Rob W:

Actually I looked up the Clockwork / Wendy thing... apparently Wendy (then Walter) created a lot of music that was intended for the film soundtrack (in other words, the music on Wendy's Clockwork album was first-generation, not a 'cover version' of the OST). But ultimately little was used in the film or on the official OST. Of course, as much as we love Wendy Carlos, one of the strongest elements of the film's audio track was the use of the traditional classical orchestrations - really jarring and powerful in the context.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm Scott Williams:

@Rob W, the FMU library does have Carlos' complete music recorded for the soundtrack, including the amazing 14-min version of Timesteps!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm Rob W:

Very interesting... thanks Scott!
  5:58pm melinda:

@TDK my sister was going through my dad's stuff recently and found Switched on Bach, which kind of surprised me since he wasn't into synth. Happy to add it to my collection.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm Scott Williams:

Thanks everybody! See you next week
  5:59pm Guy Walker:

Ride Capt. Ride? In the past 2 weeks I've heard Hamilton Joe Frank and Reynolds, Cornelius Bros and Rock The Boat. I don't think it adds anything to the brand.
Avatar 5:59pm TDK60:

Hi Melinda. The music is good. Bach, y'know?
  5:59pm Derbs:

Awesome electronica Scott!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:00pm Bas NL:

Thanks Scott! Another great one!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:00pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Thanks for serving today, Scott! 21 gun salute!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:08pm coelacanth∅:
