Postwar atmospherica. High bop modernism and Afro-Latin sounds, twilight exotica and soundtrack moods, soul stompers and weepers, hypnotic R&B and blues, mystical '60s pop, lonely country, lonelier rock 'n' roll, instrumental weirdness, electronic creaking. Bringing worlds beyond into the worlds at hand.

Avatar 10:26pm Little Danny:

hey doc! glad you made it back
Avatar 10:30pm still b/p:

Jut reading about the only time Prunes tried to do this in concert: "From the outset the performance was a disaster."
Avatar 10:32pm Little Danny:

Where did you read that still b/p? The Prunes fascinate me

h’lo hmm
Avatar 10:44pm Little Danny:

oh hey Scraps!
Avatar 10:44pm Little Danny:

thanks still!

No shame in a classic from time to time. Re:"Senor Blues"

“We didn’t know you were into avant-garde jazz” !
Avatar 10:48pm geezerette:

Elegance.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48pm Scraps:

(from the wiki article)
Avatar 10:48pm TDK60:

..I likely said it before on the Woofmoo Comments board. It may be overly obvious, but when I first heard Tomorrow Never Knows in Aug. or Sep. '66, at age 14, it was a life-altering experience. It changed me and I just knew it was doing so for others too.
Avatar 10:52pm coelacanth∅:

ah, this reminds me of Laura Cantrell
Avatar 10:52pm Little Danny:

It changed my ears around, too, TDK, though somewhat later on. Can't imagine what it was like to experience in its magnificent present
Avatar 10:53pm coelacanth∅:

(this was her bed music when she did the thrift shop on fmu)
Avatar 10:54pm still b/p:

What's the name of the percussion insturment that was doing the single hits with the lingering rattley sound?
Avatar 10:54pm Little Danny:

so happy you noticed that Coel - that's where I first heard it
Avatar 10:55pm still b/p:

"Insturment"....hah, "What's thet thar insturment?"
Avatar 10:55pm coelacanth∅:

sb/p that's a...a.....
uh...
Avatar 10:55pm coelacanth∅:

...i know what it *looks* like!
Avatar 10:55pm Little Danny:

on which tarck, still?
Avatar 10:56pm Little Danny:

track
Avatar 10:56pm Little Danny:

though now I'm actually more interested in which tarck it was
Avatar 10:56pm TDK60:

There were other life-changers in that era too, '65-'66-'67! Shapes of Things by the Yardbirds was another as was the Byrds' Eight Miles High. Etc.
Avatar 10:57pm still b/p:

Chet with BPO Ode.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm chresti:

Haha tarck and instermunt
Avatar 10:59pm coelacanth∅:

TDK i love that! though i've had a few life-changing moments hearing music i don't remember ever feeling that i must be amongst others in it.
Avatar 10:59pm Little Danny:

"Third Stone from the Sun" similarly knocked me back
Avatar 11:02pm TDK60:

Danny: Yes! That was another. That whole 1st Jimi LP was like a flying saucer landing.
Avatar 11:02pm coelacanth∅:

hey this track's got that instrument too; just used more subtly
Avatar 11:03pm coelacanth∅:

eh,it's over.
Avatar 11:03pm Little Danny:

Sadly those life-altering music moments seem to become rarer with age. I think my last true revelation was hearing Ethiopian music in the early aughts
Avatar 11:03pm still b/p:

Vibraslap is the thing, apparently.
Also love the unrelated fact encountered in the kwickee search, that Ludwig used to make something else entirely called the Bock-a-da-bock.
Avatar 11:05pm coelacanth∅:

Yes! the vibraslap. an instrument you should never buy - only borrow.
Avatar 11:07pm coelacanth∅:

ethiopian jazz was momentous for me as well. bought a record from shanachie in the 80s, based on the fact that i'd never heard music from ethiopia. boy i was happy with that purchase.
Avatar 11:08pm Little Danny:

Huh. Still trying to conjure which sound the vibraslap was. Tempted to play the track in question again
Avatar 11:09pm TDK60:

May be so Danny; aging. Yet, I still find new artists trying new angles. // But back then, '65-'69, the music was part of volcanic shifts happening in society.
Avatar 11:10pm coelacanth∅:

if you put your tongue to the roof of your mouth just behind your teeth (this assuming you have all these things) and blow gently you get an oral version of the vibraslap. sorta.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12pm daupomatic:

Great show tonight! I'm late on a deadline, and it is soothing my soul.

When I was 5 or 6, I had a dream that the beetles were spending the night. They had matching red pajamas
Avatar 11:27pm coelacanth∅:

when i first heard the cuíca , in an album by Paulinho da Costa that my aunt gave my when i was a teenager, i was fascinated. in fact "tickled" would be a good word for it because i thought it was hilarious!
Avatar 11:31pm coelacanth∅:

(and here it is in what i will call Scraps' web sight: www.soundsnap.com... )

Avatar 11:40pm still b/p:

Beatles "Help!" rather.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40pm Scraps:

I like that cuíca, coel. Thanks!
Avatar 11:41pm coelacanth∅:

that was a good bit of music though. unfortunately my computer couldn't handle it and crashed.
(i'm on the one i stream with now. i usually use this only for streaming music and the other for everything else, when i'm home) it gets along fine with soundsnap.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43pm chresti:

I'm getting to like this soundsnap
Avatar 11:43pm Little Danny:

Hey Ignore F! Thank you!
Avatar 11:45pm coelacanth∅:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45pm chresti:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46pm Scraps:

Avatar 11:46pm coelacanth∅:

i know, but my computer doesn't have an ignore f key.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47pm chresti:

oh my goodness! What a treasure trove!
Avatar 11:47pm Little Danny:

Keep hunting, you'll find it Coel
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48pm chresti:

just ingnor it
Avatar 11:49pm Little Danny:

OMG. I want those sounds to play at random during my mic breaks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49pm doctorjazz:

Eat your hearts out, Vanilla Fudge (and Diana, of course).
Avatar 11:49pm coelacanth∅:

in fact neither of my laptops has an ignore function key - at least not marked as such. (i'm back on the better one, that also crashes easily, now)
Avatar 11:50pm coelacanth∅:

yeah i must say i like this considerably more than the fudgie version.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51pm chresti:

if I had one, I wouldn't notice
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53pm doctorjazz:

That's not THE Bobby Fuller, is it?
  11:54pm Ignore Function:

I'll be right over to help, Coel.
Avatar 11:54pm coelacanth∅:

i know that if that annoying little color wheel is spinning there is no button that will stop it. i must cut the power and start over. fortunately it boos up very quickly.
Avatar 11:55pm Little Danny:

Oh yes it is doc!
Avatar 11:55pm coelacanth∅:

Ignore, i'm going to ignore that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55pm chresti:

I know the Diana version since I was 12
Avatar 11:56pm coelacanth∅:

(yes, it boos up very quickly. it boots up pretty fast too.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57pm doctorjazz:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59pm chresti:

Avatar 12:00am coelacanth∅:

chresti Tom Petty's "gator on the lawn" is another great drive song. (except it's too short)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01am Scraps:

Thank you Little Danny!
Avatar 12:01am coelacanth∅:

...though if you play the 45 at 33 it lasts longer, and still sounds great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02am chresti:
