Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm Parq:

I'm usually good at picking individual voices out of a chorus when I'm familiar with that voice -- it doesn't mean the person is singing too loud, it's just something I can do -- and I didn't hear Blossom's own voice in there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm Parq:

I wish I'd had the sort of senior prom at which they'd played this X-Ray Spex. It'd have been a better slow-dance pick than Phil Collins's "In Too Deep," as my so-called peers voted as the big night-ender.

  1:02pm Dean:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm Parq:

Good theory re Blossom, UM. I did once hear her interviewed, and her speaking voice was what you would expect based on her singing voice, but that was pretty late in her career, so it doesn't have any real impact on your theory.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm Uncle Michael:

I liked it too, Joe. That doesn't mean it was good.
Avatar 1:08pm still b/p:

Last night I was doing some impromptu Steppin' Out with knee/leg slaps/pats -- out of nowhere; the music wasn't on or heard too recently. And I decided it should be done that way when included someday among the unlikely numbers I'd like to enlist co-conspirators for in nonstandard around-the-campfire numbers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm Parq:

Somewhere -- I had it on a cassette once, but I lost it -- there's a great Dixie Cups rendering of "Let It Snow" (speaking of seasonal music).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm listener james from westwood:

@Listener Scott, I'd have been all over that, both the song and theme.
We narrowly dodged having U2's "With or Without You" as our slow-dance song. It's . . . not a danceable song.

I never attended a prom, but I did help plan one with a buddy of mine who was then junior class president, while I was senior. IIRC, we selected the Ambassador Hotel on Wilshire (site of RFK's assassination). When we were auditioning bands, again IIRC, we asked the winning candidate to play something by Steely Dan. This would have been pre-Aja, the album that entirely turned me against the band.

I haven't really had any taste for Thanksgivng since my parents died. Over the years, we've done restaurants and gone to my kid's abode with ready-made food. This year we're going to try dinner at our hose, but it's going to be a chicken, not a turkey. My wife grew up eating chicken on TG with a ground beef stuffing that dated back to her ancestry. Even though I usually do all of the cooking, she's going to make one of those, while I do the sides.

Your verbal efforts, Parq, remind me of so-called fairy jokes we used to devise, based on ambiguity and homonym. Typical set-up: a fairy offers to grant a wish, the expression of which suffers from said ambiguity/homonym/etc. Wish granted is the unintended outcome.

Hep Cats from Hell was fantastic. He had us on the show once, played our record.

I read the novel, geezerette, a long time ago, shortly after it was published. I recall not enjoying it as much as his reviews and poetry, but recently I considered rereading it. He wrote it to satisfy an ambition to publish a novel before turning 50.
