"I listened yesterday. It's no reflection on you but I could'nt see where you were going or what you were going for. This early seventies thing did'nt get noticed the first time and you talk about friends of like Dealney and Bonnie who had records out like we're supposed to remember who they are. Then you play this long winded free jazz stuff that really grates on my nerves. And that noise without a beat and sounds like someones being pinched. Then you play a reggae song, I think you called it Dub, to what, be cool? You seem to really fetishize the whole folk thing too which is obnoxious to us who don't even care. I liked it when you played that punk song though. I like Joe Belock a lot." (Visit homepage.)

  10:10am Polyus:

I saw that Sabbath tour with Gillan, actually the only time I ever saw them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10am steveo:

@rachel we went to a baseball game, but it was rained out. something was going on across the parking lot, which we assumed was an nba (sixers) playoff game, so we asked a scalper how much and they were super cheap, and then the scalper left and we looked at the tix and they were deep purple tickets, nosebleed seats. smoke on the water baby.
Avatar 10:11am PKNY:

I saw about 30 minutes of Deep Purple's set in early Sept, they actually played *after* Judas Priest. Steve Morse on guitar, was a solid band, but I wanted to go home and go to sleep. They did play "Bloodsucker" on the deep track tip, but I left waaaaaay before "Smoke on the Water" was played.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13am efd:

I think "Lady" was Styx's first big hit.
  10:13am John in Jersey:

Saw Rainbow with Joe Lynn Turner. Up and coming Scorpions opened and blew them away.

Avatar 10:18am glenn:

  10:18am Rachel Bo Bachel:

Steveo I guess that’s the way to do it
  10:18am queems:

  10:18am Richie Dubs:

Styx to me is the ultimate cheesy rock band
  10:44am JakeGhould:

@RachelBoBachel: Yes, Rachel! “JA in the AM” is WFMU’s premiere Jewish culture show as highlighted by John Allen’s playing of “Black Sabbath” at the beginning of the show to remind us all that Friday night at sundown is the beginning of the Jewish Sabbath; aka: the day of rest.
  10:44am prudy:

  10:55am prudy:

yeah, but the 70's were just a slow decline anyways. Reagan just made it all too clear.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56am Stevel:

The last four song titles could easily have been band names. and the band names titles. Not worried about this.
  10:56am Rachel Bo Bachel:

Wild Neil that is cool- I am personally not a fan but I think that you should like what you like- in 8th grade I made up a slogan that I am still sort of proud of:”if the bandwagon’s going your way, hop on!”
  10:56am Rachel Bo Bachel:

At least I think I made that up...
  10:56am convoy_pt2:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44am Mick:

Careful with That Knife, Fabio
Avatar 11:44am Henry:

Argent time, Clay!
  11:44am JakeGhould:

@WildNeil: The modern post service relies on bar codes more than anything. Cancelling stamps doesn’t really happen any more. If you just put stamps on a package, then at some point in the process it gets a barcode at a USPS facility. And modern stamps are basically stickers that are not easy to remove and can clearly be damaged when removed. Thus sometimes the only “cancelling” you will see for stamps is a ballpoint pen scribble someone made at some point if even that much.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44am Threemoons:

@KenFromHydePark And from FLORIDA! Double surprise! And he owns a white van covered in conspiracy and pro-Trump crap. Whoda thunk it?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45am Threemoons:

And now, to try to mellow out enough for a phone interview in a bit...le sigh...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46am Stevel:

Its like someone ground up six Yes albums and put them back together. Or something.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47am Threemoons:

And RE Halloweekend...is there such a thing as a H'ween Grinch? Because I am becoming one. I do NOT want to pay $50 to be in a 4-hour party in a room full of drunk people in shitty costumes listening to too-loud music. A friend of mine who has been doing regular H'ween parties forever is out of town this weekend; I just lost my temp gig so I don't want to spend too much; ALL of the events out here are a) ticketed b) run too late and c) always oversell because lately anything in NYC that isn't over $100/ticket or total crap oversells. Bah humbug!
  11:48am Ciggy:

Hello from a Shoprite in Yonkers NY.
Clay, questions about pulling a knife is not to be glib about, although interesting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48am Henry in Hopatcong:

Lovin the song transitions! Dug the talking too. Thanks John and Clay!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49am Threemoons:

At the end of the day, my Halloweekend was saved by a surprise invitation from...The Cheesemonger's Invitational. Their main judging event with all-you-can-eat cheese is usually in the summer (and oversold and overcrowded, whoda guessed) but I go anyway because of cheese. Anyway, got an invite; the qualifiers for the Summer event are Saturday, only 150 tickets, and I got a ticket for half off. So...while other people are doing tequilla shots in a room full of strangers and barfing on their crappy costumes, I will be gorging myself with cheese, local wine and beer, and charcuterie in a cold-storage facility in the hinterlands of Long Island City. I may or may not put my easy "devil horns" costume on....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50am Threemoons:

But yes, this ever-morphing trippy music is sweetening my mood considerably; I may even make it into the shower before my 1 PM call...
  11:52am yippie:

wow clay and john allen rocking it out. 6 hours clay and still going strong
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53am Threemoons:

Oh man, Who's Behind the Door - I loved this when I was 17!
Avatar 11:54am Wild Neil||Peace All:

I'm going to a Holoween house party mainly for my child right next door so I could conceivably get really drunk and walk home. But the 90's are calling and they want my plan back! Seriously. I will have 2 drinks and eat some pizza and wings. Or just wings. Wings are gluten free. Going as Flavor Flav this year. NOT in blackface (sorry Megan Kelly-LOL!)
  11:55am Rachel Bo Bachel:

Threemoons I feel ya buddy
Avatar 11:55am Wild Neil||Peace All:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57am Threemoons:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57am Threemoons:

  11:58am yippie:
