Brain's going on strike. Corporeal being hoping to to get work correct, as I'm taking a half day tomorrow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:04pm melinda:

hi everyone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:05pm Aaron in Minneapolis:

OK what is going on here? Can someone explain this to me?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:06pm chresti:

I had a phone where you could hear a faint conversation going on in the background
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:07pm Aaron in Minneapolis:

Is this a Party Line?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:08pm chresti:

sometimes I'd try to hear what they were talking about
Avatar 7:09pm northguineahills:

Now. this is my kind of party! (my party expectations have really gone down lately).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:10pm chresti:

Martha's a gas!
Avatar 7:13pm northguineahills:

@Aaron: If my brain wasn't on strike, I'd remember the intro an repeat, but, basically an analogue (insert technology) testing a multiple phone lines around 1978, the narrator was speaking from 2003, and said the fidelity was better then digital fidelity in 2003, and this recording was used at the conference to demonstrate said technology (still in development). as for the situation we find these characters, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Avatar 7:14pm northguineahills:

oh, and he said the conference was a failure....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:15pm Aaron in Minneapolis:

I heard the intro, I didnt understand it
Avatar 7:15pm Jesse Kaminsky:

Hey everyone! Sorry, dealing with a minor issue here. This track is one of Evan Doobell's non-narrated tapes of a conference line in 1978, capturing a lot of mechanical phone switches from the era
Avatar 7:15pm Jesse Kaminsky:

Some more info here: www.evan-doorbell.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:15pm chresti:

so the testing is wreaking havoc on Peter and Martha? And others
Avatar 7:16pm northguineahills:

I prefer Senor Dingdong!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18pm chresti:

Peter and Martha are having listening in on other conversations
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18pm chresti:

*fun
Avatar 7:19pm Jesse Kaminsky:

don't talk about numbers right now ok
  7:23pm gloomsday:

howdy neighbors! hi jesse :) so glad I'm able to pop in this evening. hope all is well
Avatar 7:25pm still b/p:

Listening at same time to this and rare recording of Annapurna Devi, highly regarded bass sitar player who was married to Ravi Shankar in early life and withdrew from the public and performing for many decades up to her death last week. I wasn't familiar with her story. Now music she created is braided with just plain folks a'talkin' on the line.
Avatar 7:25pm Jesse Kaminsky:

Hi gloomsday, hows it been!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:26pm melinda:

hey glooms
  7:28pm gloomsday:

things have been good but super busy! enjoying the final days of autumn in the pacific northwest. how have you been?
  7:28pm gloomsday:

hi melinda! good to see ya
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:30pm chresti:

Good idea sb/p!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:34pm passiflora:

phreaks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:34pm chresti:

And a lucky treasure! @sb/p
Avatar 7:35pm Jesse Kaminsky:

@gloomsday I'm pretty good, just yeah pretty busy trying to balance everything. It's getting into winter feelings here. In boring surprises news: I just replaced my cars clutch :/
Avatar 7:35pm Jesse Kaminsky:

Hi passiflora!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:36pm passiflora:

hi Jesse! listenin' while dishening
  7:38pm gloomsday:

@jesse i'm definitely feeling the struggle to balance things as well. oh joy, a new clutch! necessary, but an annoying extra expense nonetheless.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:41pm chresti:

I hope it was a simple clutch
Avatar 7:42pm still b/p:

Just noticed with vexed surprise this week the inner edge of each front tire on my little truck is worn to hell! Something out of balance! Last set didn't last long either. I don't think I'm that rough and reckless on 'em!
Avatar 7:44pm Jesse Kaminsky:

just a simple $1200 but at least it was a quick fix :/
Avatar 7:45pm northguineahills:

hello, neighborinos!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:46pm chresti:

how's the axle? As if I know anything about cars.
Hi again!
Avatar 7:47pm Jesse Kaminsky:

yeah they said the bearing might need attention at some point so that's exciting to look forward to!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:49pm passiflora:

The book Exploding the Phone is worth a read. The audiobook is read by Evan Doorbell. Check your library!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:50pm melinda:

My auto update: had air put in my tires this morning. The garage closer to my work than my usual place has a great vibe and is walking distance to coffee shops and everything, but I feel that isn't a good enough reason to switch garages.
  7:50pm gloomsday:

hi ngh!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:51pm chresti:

My son would fix my cars, when he lived here. A neighbor also
Avatar 7:52pm northguineahills:

I use my garage, as it's the only one w/in walking distance of my house (and my favorite pub). Got to get it fixed before work/hang w/ the relatives roadtrip (A/C).

holas, gloomsday!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54pm chresti:

I like the rotary sound better thane the touch tone
Avatar 7:56pm northguineahills:

I used to fix my own car for most issues, but now, I have an earthen driveway, and I'm not trusting a jack on that, (and don't want to spill anything).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:56pm chresti:

Now he's in SF, without a garage
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:58pm chresti:

or driveway. He takes his car to my brother's house across the bay
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:59pm chresti:

totally!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:00pm chresti:

ease dropping, they were
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:01pm chresti:

eaves
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:01pm melinda:

"earthen driveway" is a phrase I want to use in the future.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:01pm melinda:

My driveway is asphalten.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:03pm chresti:

At my brother's place there's dirt and weeds
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:04pm chresti:

Haha melinda!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:06pm chresti:

...and varmits that move into your engine if you leave it too long
  8:15pm quinn:

These tones are hypnotiq
Avatar 8:16pm still b/p:

melinda -- had good luck for years now with my garage, out off Forest Ave. just before Morrill's Corner. Too far away for convenience?

My hardtop driveway is dimpled on my side because my vehicle sits still on it for a few days at a time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:16pm chresti:

more musical-this one
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:18pm chresti:

and the axle?
  8:18pm quinn:

I miss touch tone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:22pm chresti:

I get happy for winter, when the low is 49 degrees
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23pm passiflora:

I know what you mean. they're sort of like church bells
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:25pm chresti:

in Los Angeles area
Avatar 8:25pm still b/p:

Out into the raaaaaaain! See yuz all later.
Avatar 8:26pm Jesse Kaminsky:

enjoy the rain still b/p!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:26pm chresti:

drive safely!sb/p!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:27pm chresti:

what is this that you call rain?
Avatar 8:29pm glenn:

rain is warm snow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:33pm melinda:

@b/p I use Parry Motors on Warren Ave. because they are Toyota specialists but Morrill's Corner would be closer. Cumberland Ave. Garage is where I go when I need air since all the gas station air machines are out of service these days, and it is a really pleasant space (spider plants in each window!) but I feel more comfortable taking my car to repair people who focus on my particular type of car.
Avatar 8:33pm northguineahills:

Raining here for the first time since the hurricane (I don't have to water the garden). Leaving, work, off to trivia night, see everybodies later !
Avatar 8:35pm Jesse Kaminsky:

good luck northguineahills!
I barely missed the rain biking home but then it poured like crazy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:35pm chresti:

everyone hates working on my car, a passat
Avatar 8:35pm glenn:

Avatar 8:36pm glenn:

an old g.f. had a lada. it was hard finding parts or mechanics.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:36pm chresti:

bottom of the first
Avatar 8:37pm glenn:

i miss daytime world series games.
Avatar 8:37pm Jesse Kaminsky:

Hey glenn, thanks for the update!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:42pm melinda:

I sure do like Indian music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:43pm melinda:

@chresti why are Passats hated? I know VWs tend to have electrical issues.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:43pm chresti:

I think the Dodgers should be listening to this
Avatar 8:46pm Jesse Kaminsky:

As still b/p noted earlier, this is Annapurna Devi, previously married to Ravi Shankar but stopped playing publicly at an early age. These are some of the few recordings that exist apparently recorded secretly in 1950 or so I'm told. She just passed away. More info on her: en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:46pm passiflora:

@melinda near her birthplace: www.flickr.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:47pm chresti:

well, it's a very compact engine, making it hard to access any thing, so more labor, and expensive parts, and yeah, computer and electrical is nuts
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:47pm chresti:

I noticed Jesse! So glad!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:50pm Matt_E:

This is exactly what I needed tonight.
Avatar 8:52pm Jesse Kaminsky:

Hey Matt, glad to hear that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:53pm passiflora:

:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:53pm chresti:

And I'm glad there's another hour of this show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:54pm melinda:

It's helping me too.
  9:07pm quinn:

Yes
Avatar 9:13pm Jesse Kaminsky:

Hey quinn!
  9:18pm quinn:

Hi! Have been enjoying the show while cooking and eating! Loved the Laotian singing
Avatar 9:34pm coelacanth∅:

greetings Jesse & others
Avatar 9:37pm Jesse Kaminsky:

Hi coelacanthø!
Avatar 9:58pm coelacanth∅:

hey where's your usual endtimes music? i'm confused! i don't think the show's really over!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58pm chresti:

Thanks Jesse!
Hi coelacanth()
Avatar 9:59pm coelacanth∅:

i will return for the phone stuff, which i've always liked.
Thanks Jesse!
hey chresti
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00pm chresti:

the beginning was somewhat endtime-ish
Avatar 10:00pm Jesse Kaminsky:
