Hello, Olivia and all!
Avatar 12:03pm

i now associate the deep hums of your shows beginning with the groan of my stomach before lunch. A pause I have learned to love
Avatar 12:05pm

oh wow

this show...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm

what in tarnations!?!?!!?
already a grand show, indeed. Yes. (adjusts monocle)

I miss PSAs on vinyl records.

This show is an aural edible.
Avatar 12:13pm

hullo. should have known that Olivia would have a unique take on the 7" theme....

The clicks, the clicks, the clicks, the clicks, the clicks...

I miss opening up magazines and having surprise floppy 7" slide out.

Hi Olivia! Hi Listener James from Westwood! Hi Krys O!
I'm ready for my ravioli lunch hour :D
Avatar 12:16pm

My earballs are nomming this up!
Avatar 12:18pm

(I used to use small circular stickers on my rekkids. (and razor blades, and rubber bands, and salt, and well, anything).....

This kinda stuff is playing in my afterlife. And in my nowlife, evidently. Yoko and I are having lunch.

When I was a little kid, my brother and I would play our parent's old 78s with a 7" 45rpm record laid over the top so that when the needle reached the edge of the 45, it would endlessly loop.

@Olivia: wish FMU were live streaming the booth now. Having a hard time imagining how you're managing to keep the tone arms from flying off the records. You're an audio wizard, Olivia.
Avatar 12:23pm

My Vestax PDX-2000s go from 16.5 to 78 rpms w/ two continuous speed shifts, and can play backwards (I need to dj again).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm
Kat in Chicago:

jealous, ngh!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

I wish Wham-O had produced some novelty flying disks that had record grooves on top.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm
Rich in Washington:

I need at least one turntable that can go backwards. That would be swell. Also, one that had those old speed ranges. I occasionally find records at 16. And those drugstore type recordo-discs (etc) are usually 78. I can rip and speed shift, but I'd rather be able to just listen to them.
Avatar 12:29pm

this is so sick

I think this has been the most inspired Singles Going Steady week yet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm
Marcel M:

Well.. this is making me not want to go to work! Great idea!

Has a DJ made an images only playlist? Each track, just a photo of a Scotch tape reassembled record.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm
tim from champaign:

This is so making me want to run out and get a bunch of cruddy 45s and a hardy school type record player and then mess things all up. So inspiring!

blessed interplanetary murk! i'm swimming in it. love this show so much thank you Raviolivia

Feel a little bad for Fabio. He's going to be left with no needles - just headshell.
Avatar 12:56pm

Assuming this show is much more difficult to do than making ravioli. With the 45's and all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm

@jaz-paz Yes, you can hear little hunks of the diamond break off with every rotation of the 45!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm
Marcel M:

I'm assuming Olivia changed the needles out!!!! (hoping?) lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm

pissed off i gotta go to a meeting now please pause i'll be back in 30m

Great show today

What I love about FMU listeners is no matter how thick the mud gets no one is afraid to jump in....Move over Christian Marclay !! Thx Liv

really liked this one

@zot: Listener sponsored, dammit! No innocent bystanders! PLEGE NOW or Olivia cuts another poor 45!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm
Rich in Washington:

There's something about randomly looping that is immensely gratifying - compulsive, perhaps.

why don't they call them doubles since almost all of them have music on both sides?
Avatar 🍝 Swag For Life Member 1:26pm
Krys O.:

YES!!!!!! Liquid Liquid!!!! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm
Michael 98145:

uh huh

thats why i think its really nice to have a real single one song on one side with no label, and then the other side just a big sticker with a hole in it.
Avatar 1:39pm

if Bryce opened for Olivia, the world would end.

Extra points if Olivia stole some of Fabio’s 45s and cut those in half.
Dave in Vermont on the phone:

Happy that this wonderful program could be the soundtrack for my walk and coffee stop on the way to the opening day of the Vermont International Film Festival. Viva la Arts!
Continuing to listen while i ignore other humans in the same room and wait for the first screening to start.
Felix Catus:

Olivia should change her name to CRISPR because she's mastered the art of splicing.
Dave in Vermont on the phone:

I was also wondering about the needles, Marcel.

this is one of the best shows i've ever heard on WFMU , thank you <3

also: i have no idea what i'm saying.
Avatar 2:25pm

scotch tape produces a lovely white noise tone
Avatar 2:26pm

with a nice crisp impact click as well
Avatar 2:28pm

@the blessed Rev: So does sandpaper (but your needle won't last long).
Avatar 2:30pm

@ Rev - and there's the very special records that are "chewed!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33pm

sonic spin cycle ahoy!

This is reminding me of early John Oswald tapes
Avatar 2:35pm

If you want the Yasonao Tone effect for a wounded cd, use a needle to perforate scotch tape w/ many hole, and put on the underside of a cd. Also, Markus Popp used to use Glidden paint for his glitches on CDs. (Difficulty: both require either 90s era cd players or all the functions that disallows playback of damaged CDs w/o a perfect reading disabled.
Avatar 2:36pm
Rev. Turnip Druid:

that "totally irregular rhythm" snip sounds familiar... must have used it before.. that "auscultation of the heart" medical LP? They must have pressed a billion copies of that, I still see it in thrift-stores ..
Avatar 2:36pm

For damaged cassettes, I'd let them sit in salt water to oxidize, put them in the microwave, and use strong magnets.
Avatar 2:40pm

For belt driven turntables, you can muss up the belts in many ways to vary the speed.
Avatar 2:41pm
Rev. Turnip Druid:

OR, as I discovered to my shock & horror, move to southern Arizona for a few years. With the super-low humidity, the belt will desiccate and literally fall apart. Before it completely gives up, it will behave, we can say, oddly.
Avatar 2:42pm
Rev. Turnip Druid:

10 years in Tucson, I went through 3 turntable belts. Brave soldiers, all.
Avatar 2:45pm

I used to cut notches in my trnrble belts, drive in screws to make the loop longer, and use rubber bands.
Avatar 2:51pm

ok, time for lunch, muchas gracias, olivia!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm

I'm not quite sure what is going on.
