"I listened yesterday. It's no reflection on you but I could'nt see where you were going or what you were going for. This early seventies thing did'nt get noticed the first time and you talk about friends of like Dealney and Bonnie who had records out like we're supposed to remember who they are. Then you play this long winded free jazz stuff that really grates on my nerves. And that noise without a beat and sounds like someones being pinched. Then you play a reggae song, I think you called it Dub, to what, be cool? You seem to really fetishize the whole folk thing too which is obnoxious to us who don't even care. I liked it when you played that punk song though. I like Joe Belock a lot." (Visit homepage.)

wake up, autumn is here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:06am George of Troy:

Good morning, John et al
  9:07am Yo!:

Hi JA, please stop playing this song to start your show, it was fun one or two times, now it's boring and tiring really, pleeeaaase. Love the show otherwise.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10am crateslinger:

I like Joe Belock a lot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10am adampsyche:

every friday am, this song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10am G:

I think you should play Steve Reich's Four Organs in its entirety at the start of each show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11am The Oscar:

If it weren't for this song I'd never know to wake up on Fridays.
Avatar 9:12am spacecowboy:

this is the first time i heard it - awesome
  9:12am Bklyn Listener:

You have to listen a little harder, please. Then, you’ll like it.
Avatar 9:14am John Allen:

yes thank you hi everybody
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:14am steveo:

Good morning. I wonder which Everly brother that is with that fierce strumming there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:16am Ken From Hyde Park:

Things are A-OK when you listed to JA.
Avatar 9:19am Lixiviated Life:

did i miss it?
Avatar 9:25am Lixiviated Life:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26am steveo:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26am lukavino:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33am MD:

Good Morning Freeform Militia!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35am adampsyche:

I'm sorry Yo! but that's the only way to start Fridays. It's lovely.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38am lukavino:

i heard this one Pere Ubu live show once and before one of the songs David Thomas bellows, "THIS SONG IS ABOUT BUSSES" and i think about it all the time.
Avatar 9:45am Rev. Turnip Druid:

made it in time for FOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooommmm.....
Avatar 9:52am Davee:

Where am I?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53am Rob (Jerzcity):

I think I need Rolnick's Wake Up every Friday morning. Need.
It lets me know I'm hours away from mentally blocking out work for the weekend.
Thanks forever, JA.
Avatar 9:59am John Allen:

Rob, so I'll assume that you're not the anonymous guy that emailed me a simple "Good Bye" message while Rolnick was playing..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02am steveo:

it's great that the pidge keeps bringing in new people to alienate, though, right?
Avatar 10:04am John Allen:

we feel it's an initiative strategy that will prove to work in the long run. now if the pidge could just get more millennials to vote
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06am The Oscar:

There was a stretch during my college radio days when I'd do my oddball freeform show immediately after the hardcore/metal show, which was probably the only show on the station that had a large, dedicated base of listeners. Each week, I'd open up the online statistics page and gleefully watch the confused listeners drop off one by one.
  10:23am andrea:

aha! these are sounds!
Avatar 10:23am Wild Neil||Peace All:

My co worker really did not like Stephanie Richards. I randomly sample WFMU for her throughout the day. She likes J POP and K Pop, though.
  10:24am Vixo:

This stephanie richards track is pretty damn great!!!!
Avatar 10:26am Wild Neil||Peace All:

Some of your show is SUBLIME John Allen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34am steveo:

To let it go
And so, fade away
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38am crateslinger:

Just walked back in. Is this what it's supposed to sound like or do I have a problem?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39am crateslinger:

Restarted. That's better. It was me. Never can be too sure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40am crateslinger:

This is awesome.
Swag For Life Member 10:41am disantlor:

sounds a little Sparksian
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42am crateslinger:

Just to show balance I'll admit that sometimes when I turn on Clay Pigeon's show I feel like I just rando'ed onto some wrong station.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44am crateslinger:

That's not a negative comment, but sometimes before my coffee somebody tries to dump pixie dust on me head to a Juice Newton song, I get all American on they ass.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44am The Oscar:

This might be the most hilariously incorrect cover art I've seen on the pop-up player yet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47am crateslinger:

Nachem's show back in the day could get pretty wacky too with that crazy upbeat Israeli guitar pop. Sooo happy! That shit was loco.
Avatar 10:52am Rev. Turnip Druid:

Had to check: according to th'playlist search page, it's been since 2014 since WFMU played one of Murray Saul's mic-check rants about it being Friday. We are overdue, my friends.
  10:55am andrea:

flaunt your flute fruit
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00am G:

Wouldn't it be interesting to be sitting at a dinner table with JA, Bryce, and Olivia Ravioli?
Avatar 11:02am Wild Neil||Peace All:

jean cohen-solai is SUBLIME. Wow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05am tim from champaign:

Oh man, I was just thinking about Raga Fridays from FMU days of yore. Maybe it will happen again today?
Avatar 11:06am John Allen:

NEIL YOUR FLAGGED for using sublime twice in the same show. Ten yard penalty
Avatar 11:08am Wild Neil||Peace All:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am crateslinger:

The elephants are dancing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15am Passaic River Blues:

There's a 2:30 excerpt of this Kizaki Ondo record on Soundcloud (the cut with the hoarse Japanese vocals) I listen to throughout the day, basically to get my shit sorted.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15am peapod ross:

there needs to be a stream of just this.
Avatar 11:16am Wild Neil||Peace All:

Kibaki Ondo: This is like belly dance music for really large people that can only move slowly. Not fat, just 12 feet tall like giant man.
guerilla toss is pretty choice! This reminds me of something. Mirror Mirror on the wall, throwing chestnuts in my path, something something aftermath.....
Avatar 11:17am Chris from DC:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17am The Oscar:

I'm such an idiot for not seeing Guerilla Toss when they were based in Boston. The group I work with put on concerts for them about once a month.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19am lukavino:

there are some clips floating around out there of 10 min. plus live versions of "Time" that absolutely smoke.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20am adampsyche:

Avatar 11:20am Chris from DC:

Yeah, I do need to see them someday. My last opportunity was just way too late a night.
Avatar 11:21am John Allen:

hey gang go to JAintheAM on instgram and check out the Tshirt for this show/ thanks for your support bit.ly...
  11:22am s:

Shades of Walker Bros. 'Shutout' on this US Girls
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23am Granny Spicy Tuna:

If only i wore t-shirts. How about some WFMU tiaras and aprons?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am Carmichael:

Heya John and Friday listeners. Pulled over this morning but not cited. Good start to today!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am The Oscar:

@Granny Terre T actually put out an apron a few years back-- I think you might be able to still get it from the prize warehouse! (Mine's beyond filthy at this point, but I still use it pretty much every day).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27am The Oscar:

Glad the US Girls album finally got fixed/replaced!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28am steveo:

this one is growing on me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30am peapod ross:

It's growing on me in short .5 second snippets
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34am Carmichael:

WFMU tidee whitees would be cool.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am The Oscar:

@Carmichael Sounds like a Seven Second Delay premium waiting to happen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am peapod ross:

@oscar lol exactly what I was thinking. purportedly fake stains and all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39am Rob (Jerzcity):
