Bien sur.

Hello Tony ,hello all

Tony Coulter:

Hello there, Psychspaniolos!
Avatar 12:09pm
Tony Coulter:

Two things I learned from preparing this show: 1) music from Quebec is really quite distinct from music from the rest of Canada. 2) French Canadian vocalists are divided between those who use a standard-sounding French and those who really ramp up the Quebecois accent.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm
Webhamster Henry:

I like Québécois folk music, and their duck-like accents.
Avatar 12:18pm
Tony Coulter:

Hamster! Heya!

very nice Roger Rodier's Lp

bonjour, Tony and folks. i'm really digging these selections.
Avatar 12:37pm

Hey, Chris! Glad you're liking 'em!
Avatar 12:58pm
northguineahills:

Don't think I have anything from any of these bands.... only three of them look familiar.
Avatar 1:00pm
Tony Coulter:

Hola, NGH! Offenbach had a record or two released in the States -- they made a faint ripple here in the '70s.
Avatar 1:10pm
Tony Coulter:

This Plume Latraverse album on now has quite an, um, "unique" cover. Really don't understand how it slipped by, on a major label, no less: disqueslp.blogspot.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm
Webhamster Henry:

@ngh - hurricane coming your way? During "King Tide" season? Get out those airboats!
Avatar 1:25pm
northguineahills:

Well, my company has some airboats, but they're down in the Everglades. I'm under a Tropical Storm Watch, and the next county west has a Hurricane Watch. I'll probably find a sheltered place to park my car tomorrow.
Avatar 1:31pm
northguineahills:

Any representatives of non Quebecois francophones, (Ontario, the Maritimes,). Heck even in Maine they have francophones.
Avatar 1:32pm
Tony Coulter:

Could be: I didn't check every artist's papers.
Avatar 1:34pm
Tony Coulter:

My paternal grandmother was a francophone from Newfoundland, so I know not all Canadian frogs are from Quebec.
Avatar 1:42pm
βrian:

J'aime bien les grenouilles.
Avatar 1:43pm
Tony Coulter:

Bonjour, βrian!
Avatar 1:44pm

Francophones in northern VT, too.

Dean:

Was confused for a moment by Pollen, which is also the title of French band Pulsar's first album.
Avatar 1:46pm
Tony Coulter:

HEY! We really need some pledge action around here!! Otherwise, Quebec may take offense. We wouldn't want to provoke a diplomatic incident, would we?
Avatar 1:46pm
northguineahills:

Thanks Tony, off to lunch!

Greets, Dean!

One Egg is enough.

My son is taking French in middle school. I wonder if he can get extra credit for listening to today's show?

Avatar 2:06pm

But no such thing as sloche funds, as far as I can tell.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm
Webhamster Henry:

Now to break out my collection of Dirty Plotte comix.
Avatar 2:09pm
βrian:

Interestingly, one particular definition of slush in the OED: "The refuse fat or grease obtained from meat boiled on board ship."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm
Webhamster Henry:

I have a lot of comix from "Drawn & Quarterly"'s artists.
Avatar 2:12pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Webhamster Henry: Funny you should mention Dirty Plotte!! I've just been revisiting those myself. And my comix collection in general, mostly assembled in the '90s and set aside for years. I've got lots of Drawn & Quarterly titles too -- plus many things from Fantagraphics.
Avatar 2:16pm
Tony Coulter:

Portland has a bunch of good comics store, which has been reigniting my interest.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm
steveo:

oh i meant l'infonie, but this one too :)
Avatar 2:24pm
Tony Coulter:

Both of 'em are mainstays of the '70s Quebec scene, for sure.
Avatar 2:25pm
Tony Coulter:

Heya, Michael 98145! Don't know Sandman -- but then, my comics knowledge is stuck in the '90s.
Avatar 2:27pm

When Julie Doucet moved to NYC, she became less interesting! There was a movie in the works for a while of Yummy Fur's Ed the Happy Clown.
Avatar 2:31pm

Ah, Yummy Fur -- another favorite. Don't think it needs to be a movie, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm
