Tomorrow is the 63rd anniversary of Allen Ginsberg's first public reading of his epic poem Howl.

Give the Drummer Radio is happy to broadcast this great work of love, rage and humanity. It will be broadcast tomorrow, about 5 minutes after the end of Jeff Golick's D:O Radio show finishes. (Around 12:05pm, eastern.) Keep your Internets pointed to the Drummer Stream!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm Doug Schulkind:

Here briefly!
Avatar 12:39pm fred:

re: Howl, I once used that reading to iron out glitches in software used to disguise the voices of witnesses in the UN sponsored trials for the genocide in Rwanda. Never had a higher stake job to do
Avatar 12:40pm glenn:

Avatar 12:40pm northguineahills:

Just seen inside a Snapple® bottle cap: "Charlie Chaplain failed to make the finals if a Charlie Chaplain lookalike contest." How could that be possible?
Avatar 12:56pm northguineahills:

I've never driven in snow. No, wait, on ski trips I had, but the roads were plowed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm melinda:

hi all
Avatar 1:00pm Bill Mac:

Hey Mel!
Swag For Life Member 1:02pm mauri:

one eleven heavy sounds good to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm Scraps:

I'm distracted today; October is... not good for me.

October 6, 2008, I had an hemorrhagic stroke, at 44. Ten years ago today, I got suddenly old. Can’t believe it, really, the ten years part, but I’ve counted on my fingers & toes, and it works out. Permanent (sometimes it goes away, but after ten years, it's very, very rare) hemiplegia: paralysis on the right side, bobbing head to wiggly toes.

At least I didn't have a Midlife Crisis. Skipped that!
Avatar 1:06pm Bill Mac:

Yikes! Hey man, you still got your eyes open... forge ahead!
Avatar 1:10pm fred:

@Scraps: you're still here, and that means a lot to your radio family
Avatar 1:13pm northguineahills:

I'm a healing, and getting off my antibiotics and immunosuppresives in the coming weeks. Still have a long way out of the woods (maybe Smarchish?), but the worst is over for me. Salud a tu, Scraps!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm Dave in Vermont:

Avatar 1:17pm Bill Mac:

Semulation.... and Dave!
Avatar 1:18pm Sem:

mauri, you've been hi-jacking the Market cam feeds again?
Avatar 1:18pm fred:

@ngh: good to hear about progress on your health
Avatar 1:19pm Sem:

@ngh: only a Twin Peaks reference for me. No points for me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm Doug Schulkind:

Yes, it is the 1956 version from San Francisco State University. I don't have the original 1955 version from the Six Gallery.
Avatar 1:22pm northguineahills:

Sem wems!
  1:22pm rw:

Backtracking a bit... I thought that Paul McCartney track was Godley and Creme or something. Maybe I'll have to check out more.
Scraps, happy anniversary. Glad to have you here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Hey Dave in Vermont. I can't remember if we've connected here. I'm in Windham County. Trying to avoid the leaf-peepers. haha.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm coelacanth∅:

...i'm glad you're here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm Scraps:

Thanks, melinda. The radio community does help, and the music keeps me alive through the everyday pain (literal, not metaphor, everyday pain. I have to take morphine to get me through every day, and I'm not going to address the Opioid Crisis =at all=)... um, where was I? oh yeah: thank you! (and fred, and Bill Mac, and all)
Avatar 1:56pm fred:

The Spiny Norman cover reminds me of a dance show I saw this week The performer was changing on stage and had this rack of dresses he would use
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm coelacanth∅:

i really like that cover
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm Scraps:

Avatar 1:58pm fred:

  2:02pm Michael:

Back again...Good Show as read on the playlist...Surprising XTC Track.
Avatar 2:14pm Sem:

Loving the deranged guitar, and that thing Don does when he gets so nasal.
Avatar 2:16pm Bill Mac:

Yeah, his original blues growl was long gone but he could still blow.
  2:20pm Michael:

Arto LIndsay !!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21pm coelacanth∅:

my introduction to Thirlwell was buying unfamiliar cds from a $3. bin c.1998. my purchases that day, just by chance, seemed to have a loose theme... foetus:gash (JG Thirlwell); muzza chunga:fishy pants; shat:are you choking?; porn (the men of);experiments in feedback.
sometimes things just work out.
Avatar 2:23pm Bill Mac:

I heard You Got Foetus on Your Breath on our local college radion station. 10 years later I was DJing there
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24pm coelacanth∅:

haha that was the clincher eh?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm coelacanth∅:

i love this thin lizzy
Avatar 2:26pm Bill Mac:

I had a weird story line with my local clollege radio station, but when I was there I would pull records that I knew I heard being played over the air 10 years prior. Same with here to an extent
Avatar 2:31pm Andy in Berlin:

Just arrived and wanted to say Hi to everyone. I got sidetracked in the main FMU stream and taking a break to check in over here just in time to catch the Captain and Arto. Lot of competition today and I will be catching up on the archives. But I'm with you in spirit, Bill!
Avatar 2:32pm Bill Mac:

How's the gig Andrew!
  2:37pm Andy in berlin:

Just gigging away!
Avatar 2:50pm Sem:

This is a refreshing bit of outsider music. Thank you, Bill, for this and all the foregoing. See you next weekend from the first minute.
Avatar 2:51pm Bill Mac:

Thanks Sem, yeah, God bless Daniel
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm Scraps:

I had a few not-good interactions with Thirlwell, because I had a friend who was an amateur reviewer/critic who loved a band led by Thirlwell's girlfriend (Halcion), and my friend talked with her, and his girlfriend was fine with that, but Thirlwell was definitely not happy, and Thirlwell's dissatisfaction towards my friend spread to my friend's friends, i.e., me.

He was very very jealous, to the point where he did not want male critics to talk with his girlfriend about her band.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55pm Scraps:

It's affected my liking for his music, which was fine when it was Foetus -- didn't like it even before -- but he does the Venture Brothers music, and that's .... pretty good, he said grudgingly
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56pm Scraps:

I LOVE Rob Crow. Almost everything he does. Rob Crow is wonderful.
Avatar 3:01pm Bill Mac:

Hey all, leaving momentarily. Thanks for coming on by, it was fun as per usual! Let's meet again next week!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm Doug Schulkind:

Thanks, Bill. Hear ya next week!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm chresti:
