I saw Chuck Berry a couple of times at the Fillmore East and I thought he was pretty good. One evening he just wouldn't stop playing and they had to physically snatch him off the stage, as he was doing the duck walk near the wings, in order to get everyone out for the late show.

New Yorker article on Billy Joel a bunch of years ago turned me off of him
  11:22am clarke:

as far as mike love - dennis wilson hated mike - they had a huge falling out, and that probably colored what was to come...
  11:23am Mike Wolf:

People speak about those four artists the same way you speak about Jerry Garcia, you mean?
Billy Joel once said, “There are only so many notes out there, you know?” Which, eat shit and die, you enemy of creativity. Though I’ve heard first-hand accounts of people — exactly what you're saying right now — that Billy Joel is very kind to people working around his events etc. That's not nothing.
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 Swag For Life Member 11:23am Mike East:

I think a lot of Eagles hatred to a certain generation comes from the Big Lebowski
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24am patrick321:

Some of the eagles hatred comes from their ubiquity in the 1970s and their being the favorite band of all cheerleaders in all high schools at that time.
  11:24am clarke:

agreed mike east
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am GeorgeSimian:

i mean, i don't hate the f'n eagles, man, but they only have about four really good records
  11:29am mrmucho:

Both the Eagles and Rush docs are terrific. The latter is certainly a fan's love letter.
  11:31am clarke:

Some Kind of Monster is also great, even if you don't like the band I could see people enjoying it - in fact, if you hate them you would probably like it even more

although i don't lump joe walsh in with the rest of the eagles.
  11:32am Frank Zaatar:

OK, I may get myself into trouble here, but (1) Steely Dan saved my life in the mid-70s and (2) Scenes from an Italian Restaurant is the War and Peace of Long Island. (Of course, every place gets the War and Peace it deserves.)

it is a nice bridge - but, to be the greatest? needs to be nearly a separate song within a song - not an adaptation of the same song.
  11:50am davefromtoronto:

you guys argued about the EXACT same thing last time - you have to play the lead in to the bridge...
  11:50am clarke:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51am Travisano66:

How about the bridge in "Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except for Me and My Monkey"???
  11:51am gene sculatti:

Bridges great, but what about fades-- where you're leaning into the speaker to hear how high the falsetto or the lead guitar goes? So many great soul-side fades.
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 Swag For Life Member 11:51am Matt Fiveash:

“Radio Friendly Unit Shifter” by Nirvana on In Utero - just the name of the song as a nod to the pop formula is brilliant... that bridge soars...
  12:00pm P-90:

1: Bridges DO sometimes appear do more than once in a song... aren’t they still bridges when they do?
2: “Go All The Way” doesn’t really have two different bridges, it has a bridge and a FANFARE.
The role of fanfares in song composition sometimes isn’t recognized or discussed, but they are distinct from bridges. Unlike bridges , they are repeated more often than not.
  12:00pm clarke:

agree about Under Pressure - but the bridge almost outweighs the rest of the song. a great bridge compliments the rest of the song, maybe?

Buddy Holly is the most fascinating "what if" character of all time. Would he have grown a mustache? Become a Doug Sahm type? Started calling himself "Bud Holly"? Ended up in the Travelling Wilburys? I think Bobby Fuller was instructive as to how Buddy might have evolved, but he didn't stick around to see it through either...

Uptown Funk is great. After that......

the thing about bad bar bands, though, is that everybody knows they're just their so people can get drunk, dance, and hook up. it doesn't actually matter if they're good or not. not to mention, the cover charge is only 5$ or whatever.

Phoning it in: Dylan in the 90s.
Worst show: Bob Seger in the 70s (dson't blame m, he was opening for somebody).
