Good day, Mary and wingers.
Avatar 12:05pm Sem:

Wingers to the right of me, wingers to the left, 100% Wingers as far as the eye can see.
Hello, Mary, βrian. What's shaking? Nothing catching, I hope.
Avatar 12:08pm Mary Wing:

Hello Brian and Sem! We have lift-off!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Ike:

Sounds good.
Avatar 12:11pm βrian:

I met a guy who knew a guy who claims he took the paisley acid at Woodstock.
Avatar 12:16pm Mary Wing:

Howdy Ike, you're here early!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Tremendously 100% and tremendously whatever.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm Parq:

Hi, Mary. (ding) You could probably get a 3 of a Kind set out of Oh Happy Day, assuming you haven't already.
Avatar 12:28pm Mary Wing:

Hiya Ken and Parq, welcome to Wednesday Whatever! That's a good suggestion, Parq, I'll put that in the queue.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm Carmichael:

Heya Mary and wingnuts. It's officially Hump Day (c).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm Parq:

βrian, I would just like to point out here that "Paisley Acid" would be a good name for a band.
  12:34pm rw:

Good morning!
Avatar 12:35pm Mary Wing:

Hi Carmichael and rw! Let the humping commence!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm Parq:

The Light in the Attic page for the Barrett/Youth album promises: "CD housed in lavish Digipak featuring previously unseen photos". 'Nuff said.
Avatar 12:37pm Sem:

In high school I was prsent at the first and last performance of a group called Paisley Regime.

The audience called for regime change was called for following the very first number.
Avatar 12:39pm Sem:

please disregard the the unitelligible portion of the comment above.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Arr, matey! I almost forgot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Parq:

The Wikipedia page for Lambchop has a picture of them onstage at Dachau. I can't imagine what it must be like for any musician, let alone one like Kurt Wagner, to play a venue in that city
  1:00pm rw:

Nice. Doo that again!
  1:01pm rw:

I mean do.
  1:04pm rw:

Just got to work. Not much traffic. Thanks Mary! Have a good one all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm david w:

Hello Mary and all!
Avatar 1:11pm Mary Wing:

Cheers, rw, and hi David!
Avatar 1:11pm Mary Wing:

What's that damn Talking Heads song that sounds like a pirate??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm Carmichael:

Hi, a high high high high high ... a woo hoo! Is that it? Don't know the name.
Avatar 1:13pm βrian:

The Pirates of Penzance has got to be on this list, no?
Avatar 1:13pm northguineahills:

Well, this reminds me of my childhood...
Avatar 1:14pm Mary Wing:

Yes, Carm, that's the only part I can hear in my head.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm Parq:

Mary, that's Swamp, from Speaking in Tongues. Also, there's the late Steve Goodman's "Lincoln Park Pirates", about the Chicago towing police. and Roger McGuinn's "Cardiff Rose".
Avatar 1:15pm βrian:

Avatar 1:16pm βrian:

Steve Goodman was a mensch.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm Parq:

Wow,, that was fast.
Avatar 1:17pm Mary Wing:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm Carmichael:

That's it!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm Carmichael:

Did I hear some Stephen Bishop in there??
Avatar 1:25pm Mary Wing:

Heh, every day is Walk Like An Egyptian Day, as far as I'm concerned.
Avatar 1:26pm βrian:

There's a style of formatting code that is named from "Walk like an Egyptian."
Avatar 1:27pm Mary Wing:

hey there, steveo and NGH!
Avatar 1:30pm northguineahills:

hallos, Mary!
Avatar 1:31pm northguineahills:

Fairport Convention did a version of this Macy Gray song (back in the early 70s)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm Carmichael:

Richard Thompson sings General Taylor from that same disc with Macy Gray on it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm Parq:

I love Macy Gray's voice. She even did the theme song for a cartoon my kid used to watch.
Avatar 1:41pm northguineahills:

oh..., it's talk like a pirate day (or was it yesterday?) I'm a bit slow....
Avatar 1:41pm Mary Wing:

It's today, matey!
Avatar 1:42pm Mary Wing:

I love Macy's voice, too. Have you heard her Stevie Wonder covers album?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm steveo:

wow haven't heard elp this deep in....30 years?
Avatar 1:48pm Mary Wing:

Heh, try 40 years. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm steveo:

40 years ago i had no idea who elp was :)
Avatar 1:57pm northguineahills:

40 years ago, I was learning my vocabulary (I could talk before I could walk).
Avatar 1:57pm northguineahills:

Aroud 2004, I dated a woman who had a gallery that showed Mark Mothersbaugh's postcard art. He was very pleasant....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm steveo:

saw a lot of that last year or so at nyu, ngh. also some of his mechanical music machines were there (and amazing)
Avatar 1:59pm Mary Wing:

Heh, much like Kevin Bacon, I think NGH is near the center of everything.
Avatar 2:01pm northguineahills:

Ok, off to lunch, thanks Mary!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm steveo:

now this i remember like it was yesterday
Avatar 2:07pm northguineahills:

I have "Take the skinheads bowling" on a Rough Trade brown marbled vinyl comp.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17pm Ike:

This also sounds good.
  2:21pm Dean:

Back in 2012, David Lowery of CVB et al. wrote a response to an NPR intern's blog post in which she claimed, "I never owned any music to begin with." I sympathized with Lowery, though I thought some of his rationales were mistaken. I've only just now read the intern's original post. It seems to me Lowery largely missed its point. She wasn't trying to justify not paying for easily accessible digital music files. She was merely expressing her lack of interest in physical product. What was all the hoopla about? Here's Lowery's response, including a link to the original post: https://thetrichordist.com/2012/06/18/letter-to-emily-white-at-npr-all-songs-considered/
Avatar 2:22pm Mary Wing:

Thanks, Dean, I'll read that later.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:35pm Parq:

From the editors' comments to the piece Dean posted, referring to comments on the piece:

Lately though we’ve adopted some totally random rules to cut down on the sheer volume. If your IP address has “23” in it we immediately delete w/o reading. If your wordpress handle has “girl” or “free” or “media” or “Tech” we delete immediately. If you start with foul language or are extra angry we delete. Unless of course we want you to look stupid then we publish your comments. Today we searched for all comments that contained the words “market” “zero” or “marginal” and bulk deleted. This was specifically cause we don’t really want to explain that fixed costs really do matter and no matter what you heard from some idiot on the internet. If you play bass we delete. Also “”McPherson”: bulk delete. The use of the words “consumer” , “ointment” , “dude”, “gatekeepers” and “dubstep” also resulted in a fair number of deletions. We are only joking about some of this. If you feel that this somehow infringes your freedom you have the whole free internet out there to express we’ve infringed your freedom.
Avatar 2:36pm Mary Wing:

Heh. Nice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37pm Parq:

I really think that the phrase "If you play bass we delete" could be put to good use somehow.
Avatar 2:40pm Wild Neil||Peace All:

I'm a Winger!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40pm Parq:

By the way, thanks, Dean. That was a great read.
Avatar 2:41pm Mary Wing:

Welcome, Neil and all wingers!
Avatar 2:43pm Wild Neil||Peace All:

Mary, thank you for not judging me!
  2:43pm Dean:

I missed those editorial comments. Whew! (I once played bass, a long time ago. Go ahead, delete me.)
Avatar 2:45pm Wild Neil||Peace All:

I think the editors who wrote those guidelines are funny people would be fun to have a drink with -at work. I picture them having a Mad Men like liquor cart complete with maybe ten or twelve bottles of booze, an ice bucket with tongs, and highball glasses.
  2:46pm Dean:

btw, I first learned about the Lowery post via Scott Soriano's now defunct Crud Crud. In his final post, Soriano admits that even the careful curation he was doing in presenting files ripped from scarce recordings ultimately conflicted with his moral values.
Avatar 2:49pm Wild Neil||Peace All:

What I don't get is how there are thousands upon thousands of songs on youtube, apparently all free for the taking. I thought napster put an end to that a long time ago.
Avatar 2:50pm Mary Wing:

Napster didn't have advertising on it, though?
Avatar 2:52pm northguineahills:

Back in time!
Avatar 2:54pm Wild Neil||Peace All:

ST 37 are cool.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm david w:

How I learned to stop worrying and love the DMCA...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:58pm Parq:

Neil, you don't actually download what's on YouTube; you just stream it from their server. At that, you'll find a lot of things that have been taken down from Youube at the demand of the copyright holder.
Avatar 2:59pm Wild Neil||Peace All:

@Parq-yeah, there's that.
See ya Mary Wing!
Avatar 3:00pm Mary Wing:

Thanks for listening!
