Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm Passaic River Blues:

@Parq: agreed. "Walk Away Renee" is great, but "Pretty Ballerina" is perfect.
  12:09pm David in London:

@Passiac and Parc - Agreed x 2. The ‘There’s Going to be a Storm’ compilation is just one stonewall classic after another.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Parq:

V Priceless, that changes everything. I'm going to look for that the first chance I get.
  12:10pm judy from croton:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm Parq:

I went to a talent show decades ago, in which a woman, 35-ish, pretty but not a knockout, did a performance of "See the Light", so-so voice but heartfelt. I've never seen her again, but I've had a teeny crush on her ever since. It's that kind of song.
  12:53pm true zzz:

matter of taste. some people dig it but I have the problem with her flat singing.
Avatar 12:54pm Kurt Gottschalk:

i actually like flat singing, but i hear you, truez.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm steveo:

you hear that thunder in j.c.?
  12:55pm Steve Swartz:

Digging the Gilberto --> Braxton segue big time
Avatar 12:56pm northguineahills:

Anthony Braxton
Avatar 12:56pm northguineahills:

Avatar 12:56pm Fernando P:

that song by Astrud Gilberto is actually A Banda by Chico Buarque. That Ribeiro and Cunha tune is another song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm tim from champaign:

Before seeing this is Anthony Braxton, I was thinking that this sounds like prog/punk/math rock like Battles or This Heat. Makes perfect sense.
Avatar 12:57pm Kurt Gottschalk:

Fernando, you're right! Thank you. I'll fix it.
Avatar 12:59pm Kurt Gottschalk:

tim, i love that.
Avatar 12:59pm Kurt Gottschalk:

and of course, braxton's son was in battles.
Avatar 1:00pm Kurt Gottschalk:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm doctorjazz:

Great set! What a great Braxton track, not what I expect.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm Carmichael:

Jazz: Delicious hot, disgusting cold.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm doctorjazz:

Reminds me of Willem Breuker's Kollektief, got that free - slapstick feel.
Avatar 1:03pm Kurt Gottschalk:

how about lukewarm?
Avatar 1:04pm Kurt Gottschalk:

i can see that, dr. j.

Just for the arc from Left Banke through Lonnie Smith and Stanley Turrentine through Anthony Braxton to the amazing Hilliard/J.S. Bach, and now Debussy, this is likely to be my favorite show for a while...
