was that the lady or the cat singing?
Avatar 7:10pm Dan Bodah:

Good evening Fryers! @dale, that was the lady. The cat was skittering around on the guitar fretboard.
Avatar 7:13pm Linda Lee:

'evening Mr. Bodah! always so happy to hear human voices do their work after the tech discussions.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:13pm Webhamster Henry:

Sruti along with us!
Avatar 7:15pm Dan Bodah:

@LL, WHH, welcome -- this is like a "who wore it better" segment, but for shruti box and overtone singing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:15pm Webhamster Henry:

it's C (261.63 Hz)
Avatar 7:15pm ranjit:

something something the taming of the shruti?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:16pm Webhamster Henry:

My iOS app Srutibox is going to be 10 years old in a few weeks.
Avatar 7:17pm Dan Bodah:

@ranjit -- oooh!
Avatar 7:18pm Linda Lee:

shruti shruti, oh rutti!
Avatar 7:19pm Dan Bodah:

WHH, shoulda known you wrote the app. BTW, I was recently revisiting "Autumn in the Automat" by Julius Monk, which my wife turned me on to from an OLD WFMU tape she'd made way back in the 1980s, and which I was able to ID b/c it was you who had played it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:20pm melinda:

This is great.
Avatar 7:21pm Linda Lee:

electrionic shruti boxes now might make it possible to play your own musical accompaniment while singing too! will we hear some of that?
Avatar 7:22pm Linda Lee:

ooh! ivan the flat!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22pm Webhamster Henry:

Thanks Dan! Someone was a Dorian fan, I guess!
I sing that song a lot! It's by the guys who wrote "The Fantastics", Schmidt & Jones. It's part of a little suite called "Seasonal Sonata", pieces on the seasons in NYC.
Avatar 7:23pm ranjit:

@Henry SrutiBox is one of the first iOS apps I ever downloaded!
  7:23pm P-90:

I. Van Halen ?!
Avatar 7:24pm ranjit:

...in 2010, according to the receipt.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:24pm Webhamster Henry:

It was one of the first ones in the app store ... AND IT'S STILL THERE!
Avatar 7:24pm northguineahills:

Ivan Halen, new to me and digdug. (I want a squeeze sruti box).

what p-90 said!
Avatar 7:25pm Linda Lee:

he's Hot for Shruti.
  7:26pm penelope:

Hi from all of us @ dingmannia!
Avatar 7:26pm ranjit:

iVan Halen is the app version
Avatar 7:27pm northguineahills:

Wouldn't Halen mean one who dwells in the halls (of royalty) in old Dutch. Where's are Dutchies? (pass the dutchie, i really need to leave work).
Avatar 7:27pm DC:

Lol @LL hot for shruti

Enjoying the overtones here this evening
Avatar 7:27pm northguineahills:

Avatar 7:27pm Linda Lee:

Avatar 7:29pm Dan Bodah:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:30pm Webhamster Henry:

A cave or Mine helps a lot. My gamelan played in the Widow Jane Mine yesterday. My OTHER band is playing there on the 25th.

Alright, enough about me.
Avatar 7:30pm ranjit:

i bet this choir is even more amazing in person
Avatar 7:31pm ranjit:

Not enough, Henry! Did you submit any polkas?
Avatar 7:31pm Linda Lee:

cannot even imagine gamelan in a cave. holy heck!!
Avatar 7:34pm northguineahills:

@Henry: *multiple stuttering spit takes*, whhhhhhaaaaa!
Avatar 7:35pm Dan Bodah:

gamelan in a cave, holy....
Avatar 7:35pm ranjit:

Your cave or mine?
Avatar 7:38pm Dan Bodah:

Hi all, BTW, if anyone is interested in doing a remix of a Balochi nur sur tune, I put a couple here for you to mess with: www.dropbox.com...
Avatar 7:39pm Dan Bodah:

Let me know what you come up with by email at danbodah at gmail
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:39pm Webhamster Henry:

In a sense, it is "Mine" : www.centuryhouse.org...
Come on up to Rosendale and check it out!
@ranjit - I was thinking about it!
My problem is I've been playing bluegrass on Monday nights and missing both this show and DJ Stashu.
Avatar 7:40pm ranjit:

You have pretty good problems! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:42pm Webhamster Henry:

Is there going to be any David Hykes in this set?
Avatar 7:42pm northguineahills:

B/c I'm clumsy AF, I somehow ran my elbow into a metal door frame while going into the lab. I now have an osseaous contusion to the end of my ulna and now my elbow is the size of a tangerine. On the bright side, I have my first doctor's visit in 8 years tomorrow (Yaye, silver lining!)
Avatar 7:44pm Dan Bodah:

@WHHm, no David HYkes, but Timothy Hill is up next. @NGH, youch!
Avatar 7:45pm DC:

@NGH, hope that tangerine speedily reduces to clementine, and then returns to elbow size with little or no fuss. Definitely healthy to keep your mind on the silver lining!
Avatar 7:48pm ranjit:

ow! hope you heal up quick, northguineahills!
Avatar 7:49pm Tom Miller:

Is this thing on?
Avatar 7:51pm northguineahills:

Wow, that was in Monserrat?!! 80% of the island has been evacuated including the capital for the last 20 years from the continuous eruption of Soufrie Hills (volcano).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:51pm Webhamster Henry:

@ngh life imitates cartoons! Tim Hill is starting a singing school with Iva Bottová: www.zingora-vocal-school.com
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:53pm Webhamster Henry:

Yeah, sorry, still talking about myself:
I put together MAC's Internet Museum of Flexi/Cardboard/Oddity disks right here on WFMU.org: www.wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:53pm Webhamster Henry:

Maybe that's why I'm the sponsor of this chat board?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54pm melinda:

I wish I lived in he area and could hear Henry's gamelan in the cave.
Avatar 7:55pm northguineahills:

Thanks everyone. As soon as I leave work, I'm going to go get some anti-inflammatories since I was too thick to put ice on it when it happened.

Wow, cool, Henry!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:56pm melinda:

Great show, Dan!
Avatar 7:57pm DC:

This broadcast has certainly been filled with beautiful overtones, yet the tones aren't over!
Avatar 7:57pm Dan Bodah:

Thanks everyone! See you in 2 weeks with Corinna Shkema Snyder back for another visit with Eastern European polyphony
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:06pm Webhamster Henry:

Looking forward to it!
