Hi Michael

Didn’t catch your name but the interview with Seymour Stein was a bit off putting.

do explorers club make any music that's not derivative of the beach boys?
Avatar 11:28am Michael Shelley:

their 2ns lp has some very 70s sounding hits on it, but mostly they stick close to the BBs
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29am Bill in W.O.:

Fug it, Michael...let's go bowling. Complete agreeance about the Robbie & LGL record, it's swell.
  11:31am davefromtoronto:

thanks. it's strange (and a bit disturbing) that an artist or band would base their
sound or style on someone elses.

not trying to be negative!
Avatar 11:33am Hams:

you can buy my car!!: newyork.craigslist.org... it is not brand new.
Avatar 11:35am Hams:

just ask the dealer how many cars he has in the lot right off the bat and how many more is he expecting to get.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35am Jeezy:

The Honda Fit is the only car for me! Even though I've had several stolen here in NYC, I still love it. On #3 now...
Avatar 11:39am Michael Shelley:

I have a FIT with 167,000 miles
Avatar 11:39am Hams:

yeah, i've had this car for 17yrs. my mom had it when it was brand new. 305k mi. have spent a lot of time in it, driving between new york & athens, ga.
  11:40am tim from Champaign:

Advice I’ve found most helpful for buying a car: be prepared to walk away. If you go in determined to leave with something, you may wind up feeling pressured into a deal you’re not happy with. But if you go in prepared to walk away, you potentially have more leverage. Hope this helps and sorry to hear you’ve had a rough week.
  11:40am JakeGould:

@Hams: Your Craigslist link is broken.
Avatar 11:40am Hams:

gettin' up there, michael.
  11:41am JakeGould:

“it's strange (and a bit disturbing) that an artist or band would base their
sound or style on someone elses.” Have you ever heard of Led Zeppelin?
Avatar 11:42am Michael Shelley:

Dave - if you listen to the albums as a whole I think you get a different picture. And as Seymour Stein pointed out - the songs are really good and that counts for a lot. I'd say they are heavily inspired - and since they're inspired by one of my all time favorites - that's good!
  11:43am davefromtoronto:

alright - i'll look for them on spotify.
  11:44am clarke:

checkin' in: another sweltering saturday on the cape, work work work
  11:44am JakeGould:

FWIW, I just recently listened to some of the original Boomtown Rats demos. You know, there was always this thread that said that Bob Geldoff was trying to be a punk Mick Jagger… But those demos sounds so much like the Rolling Stones it’s mind-blowing.
Avatar 11:44am Hams:

newyork.craigslist.org... maybe that will work. may have a guy in south bronx buying it today.
Avatar 11:44am Hams:

  11:45am JakeGould:

@Hams: You added an extra period to the end of the URL. Here, this works. newyork.craigslist.org...
Avatar 11:46am Hams:

oh! of course.. that's something i would do. thanks, jake.
  11:46am clarke:

drums are amazing on the gene clark demo!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52am Bill in W.O.:

I used True Car to buy my car in 2014, and I was happy with my price and experience. I've done more reading about True Car since and got some ideas about doing even better. But do a little reading about True Car, it might be a good fit for you even if you don't go strictly with their dealer(s).
  11:52am longish:

I recently bought a car. After first dealership effort, I realized the three-to-four hour session is completely unnecessary. Sales staff do not need to leave to consult with manager, or look up info — it’s a ploy to wear down the buyer. Don’t tolerate it. Tell them you only have a 1/2 hour — sell me a car within that time or I leave. Good luck!
  11:54am JakeGould:

@longish: Right! All sales techniques basically hinge on you investing so much time that you feel you must make a decision because of that. Cars and real estate live and breathe off of that thinking.
  11:55am JakeGould:

Anyway, hope all works out of all. And I hope it becomes less humid today in NY/NJ. Holy crap is it nasty!
Avatar 11:55am Michael Shelley:

After visiting 2 dealers I now know the EXACT car/model/color - and after having one guy change the price & one guy saying that the sticker was the final price Ive been trying calls & emails saying "Tell me your best price & I'll bring you a certified check tomorrow" -
  11:56am clarke:

that was great- very cool

  12:02pm adam:

I had a professor who bought a car by faxing (ok it was several years ago) a form to prospective dealers nami g the car he wanted and saying essentially he would by it from the dealer who offered the best price under some ceiling.
  12:02pm clarke:

sometimes a 'setback' like that can be a step fwd?? i lost all my original recordings due to a computer dying - it is rough, but i think the re-do improved on them?? maybe
  12:03pm George in WO:

Nice job, Jack Silbert!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm Tommy in Neversink:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Jeezy:

Re: Explorers Club, who I've seen live several times, and are amazing: Led Zeppelin: Original take on an old form. EC: Not so much. They're still good, but c'mon... Very little originality.

Recetlny had to replace our car early (my bad) and have been leasing for many years. We found the rarest of all creatures, an honest car salesman who did his best to get us a great deal every time. Work friend told me about car brokers, who sell and leave cars at the fleet rate. Our guy said use the broker he can't possibly come close. New car was $1800 below dealer invoice. No sure if I'm allowed to post the name, but just look for lease or auto brokers (most are in Brooklyn and Satan Island), and avoid those charging a fee. Best is they deliverer to your house.
