@geezerette - Considering I'm usually working in urban/suburban settings I do see my share of interesting creatures. Last week, for example daddy long leg spiders were everywhere :)

@red, here in the city there's so much construction noise that the Mockingbirds are shouting to be heard. They're so good at projecting now that they're ready for opera.

Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:38pm
doctorjazz:

New one for me too.
  5:40pm
Dean:

I'd heard of him only through his appearance on a McPhee record issued by hat.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm
David D:

He played with Sun Ra and many others in addition to his own stuff. I believe McPhee's first recording was the one we just heard with Thornton.
Avatar 🚂 5:44pm
northguineahills:

This McPhee reminds of a Cooper-Moore piece mixed w/ Sun Ra,,,,
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm
David D:

Correction: He was also previously on Sun Ra recordings.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm
David D:

I mean Thornton was - never mind the correction. My brain is fried.
Avatar 5:55pm
monkeyz:

mmmhhhh fried brain, what a good dessert to the picnic ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm
David D:

We used to call the weird plum desserts in our school cafeteria "brains", so it all makes sense.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:59pm
David D:

At least I think they were plum.

  6:48pm
Dean:

Apologies if you mentioned in this on the air, but in a rave review of one of the volumes of Nightingale SQ's Langgaard records, Jim Svejda writes, "While a far less significant contribution than the composer’s 17 symphonies, Rued Langgaard’s string quartets—all early works—were largely written in response to the major emotional event of his life. While vacationing with his parents in Sweden during the summer of 1914, the 20-year-old composer met and fell in love with a girl named Dora—virtually all that posterity knows about her is her name—and in the following year began a musical sublimation of that doomed relationship, much as Smetana had done with his deafness in the Quartet 'From My Life.'"
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 6:49pm
