Hi! I am back from Poland. It was awesome. I rode on a train, saw a stork, visited family! Changes in Poland
1. No Polski Fiat Maluch seen on road, but saw one at a car show and also one in an Obi parking lot (like Home Depot).
2. Women stopped wearing dresses, high heels and stockings. Now its all pants and flats and sneakers. NOT as sexy as it once was. Polish women are still beautiful as usual, but just not dressed as sexy as 2007....
3. Everybody is building a new house or renovating their existing house or putting a new metal roof on it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09am Devin B.:

Morning all. Love this Smoke Bellow!
Avatar 9:11am themutante:

Seconded. This Smoke Bellow mob are great!
Avatar 9:12am Diezel Tea:

Greeting Joe & Co. Wow Neil, that sounds interesting. Perhaps the lack of dresses now is a reflection of Poland's neo-nationalist catholic conservatism? My friend Kasha has told me some wild (in a bad way) stuff going on in her homeland as of the past few years.
Avatar 9:13am themutante:

I've fallen for a couple of Polish girls. I think they're the bees-knees.
Avatar 9:15am Joe McG:

Hi, annie, themutante, TLoneliestM, Rich, Guido, Krys, Rob, Linda, Neil, Devin, Diezel T and everyone else. Welcome to Monday morning.
Avatar 9:15am themutante:

Hey, Joe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:16am Rob (Jerzcity):

@Neil - wonder if the prevalent construction trend is similar to what I saw in Peru recently. Apparently as long as you are building or renovating your home, you don't have to pay (or are greatly discounted) on your property taxes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:16am karlward:

I'm warning you, Smoke Bellow, do not under any circumstances mutate this awesome jam into a Collective Soul cover.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17am Devin B.:

@karlward: giggling trying to imagine how that would work
Avatar 9:18am themutante:

They are flirting with the idea @karlward
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18am karlward:

Heya, CP! Good idea, should I? Name it and I'll play it, if I can get it in time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23am ɨkɛ:

@Rob(J), I noticed that in Peru too, though some Peruvians told me it was about taxes and others insisted it absolutely wasn't, and that Peruvians are just always hopeful, which seems much less plausible to me. @themutante, wait, two at the same time?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25am TheLoneliestMonk:

@JoeMac: some unexpected picks so far. you in a mellow, harmonious mood today?

Avatar 9:27am Wild Neil||Peace All:

@Diezel Tea,
Theoretically Poland is more nationaliistic now, yes. However PIS is in favor of GMO's!?. If anything Poland is less conservative socially than it used to be. People living together without marriage etc.
I REALLY missed the dresses, stockings and high heels. It was all I could think about my first few visits. Oh well. Maybe it will become hip here in the USA to stop wearing PJs to Walmart and start wearing tight dresses, makeup and high heels. I used to say it was like a public service announcement the wardrobe et al. But I AM a sexist pig, I know. Oink!

Putin bought the World Cup, too. That's why it took place in Russia. Straight-up corruption. FIFA (the soccer bastard organization) is an abomination.

I saw the game too. Croatia had more shots on goal at least at the first half ending (unfortunately the self goal is unforgivable.) Croatia played harder I thought. MUCH better than American football or God Forbid, BASEBALL (zzzz....zzzz...)

How about some more Kevin? or more Bert? Just watched his big song and dance number from Season 1 of The Muppet Show yesterday. He never got enough credit for his dancing outside of "the pigeon."
Avatar 11:18am Joe McG:

@suzyhotrod: If you're feeling it, do it! Did you win your match on Saturday? Sorry I missed it. @Jess: Nicely put! @ledzepsucks: Hope you feel better soon! @TLM: Highly! @Mark: This is the Don Troiano version of the group, at least judging by the label credit. @Halifax Ed: Hiya! :)
  11:20am Mark in Toronto:

Joe, their 2 big hits were Opportunity and Love-itis.
Avatar 11:21am Joe McG:

@mark: Is that the Harvey Scales "Love-Itis"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24am TheLoneliestMonk:

@Joe i was tempted to buy that HiNote records compedium box a while back. think it's worth it?
Avatar 11:25am ben abs:

this is a LOT better than the band name would suggest!
  11:26am SeanG:

@Joe do you like John Hiatt? and thanks for playing John Cougar!
Avatar 11:26am Joe McG:

@ben abs: I agree, the name is kind of lousy. What a performance, though! I'll fade it soon because it goes for 25 minutes and I have a lot of music still to play, but I dig it.
Avatar 11:27am ben abs:

I'll add it to the list of things to play when not fmu-ing!
Avatar 11:28am Joe McG:

@SeanG: Love John Hiatt, although I haven't paid much attention to his recent records. From 1978-1990, I'm there.
Avatar 11:29am Brian in UK:

Was there a John Hiatt song about shoes?
Avatar 11:29am Joe McG:

Oh hell, I'm really liking this, I'm going to let it rollllll. "Joe plays all those long tracks, make him stop!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30am Itzall Ablurr:

Was the funeral bitter? The beer, the BAND?!? I like that the name is open to interpretation. I choose that they were the beer band for a bitter funeral.
Avatar 11:30am ben abs:

Yesss!
Avatar 11:30am Joe McG:

@Brian: He was kinda Costello-ish for a spell. But Costello never wrote one as direct as this: www.youtube.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am Itzall Ablurr:

This is badass.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am Ken From Hyde Park:

Good morning, Joe and freeform friends.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32am Ken From Hyde Park:

  11:32am SeanG:

@Joe sweet! love john hiatt too. i gotta listen to his earlier stuff more. I really dig that record from 1995, Walk On

Don Cherry - Brown Rice is one of my jams.
Avatar 11:33am Joe McG:

@Ken: Believe it or not, I didn't use this opportunity to spend some quality time in the WFMU restroom. @Sean: I like that one, too. My faves are "Slow Turning" and "Slug Line." Also "Riding with the King."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34am ɛɨk:

Joe McGasko turned into Bryce so gradually I didn't even notice!

My family used to laugh at the Americanized pronunciations in polka music.
  11:47am Mark in Toronto:

Yes Joe, the Harvey Scales track was covered by them. The Madala version is probably much more recognizable up here.
Avatar 11:47am Wild Neil||Peace All:

@Krys O. -My wife from Poland HATES Polka! She likes Country music, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48am Krys O.:

Neil, my father was a mean harmonica player AND could dance the polka like a dervish without knocking into anyone.
Avatar 11:48am Joe McG:

@Mark: Interesting! BTW, everybody, don't miss Stashu's show tonight at 8, always a good time!
