Good morning Jeff and all
  9:01am Doug Schulkind:

Greetings from 4pm!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:01am Jeff Golick:

Hello France and Greece! @fred and @Doug Schulkind!
Avatar 9:02am Hams:

morning, listeners.
Avatar 9:02am fred:

@Doug: can I look forward to many record finds when you get back?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:02am Jeff Golick:

Hi, @Hams!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:03am listener james from westwood:

I thought it was Destination:Olives! I've been living a lie!!
Avatar 9:04am TDK60:

Greetings from New York. So glad 100K Londoners, and others across their island, came out against the orange racist.
Avatar 9:04am Hams:

hello there, jeff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:06am listener james from westwood:

TDK60: Is he still in Scotland? He'll be roundly roasted there, too. Helsinki's already mounting up with its signs.
  9:06am Doug Schulkind:

No record shopping on this trip. To save money, the three of us are sharing one checked piece of luggage. So, no room!

Viva Les Bleus!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07am Jeff Golick:

Hey, there, @listener james from westwood, and you, too, @TDK60!
Avatar 9:08am fred:

I'm inclined to root against France because I need to sleep. Then again, listener ngh would win some money if France wins, part of which would make its way to WFMU. So I'm rooting for France
Avatar 9:08am TDK60:

James: I know not exact locations and schedule. Will read about later, possibly. / Happy day after Bastille Day. Liberté still a "goal"!
Avatar 9:11am glenn:

jesus b'y, is she some hot or wha?
Avatar 9:11am glenn:

also, trump is a cunt, according to the scots.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:12am Jeff Golick:

I found myself rather sad after England bowed out. Had been rooting for them, as the most NY Mets-like of teams, and they did not disappoint, as I was left with that Mets-like feeling all over again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:12am Jeff Golick:

@glenn: Yeah, the Scots do not mince words. (Do they mince pies?) Hello.
Avatar 9:14am glenn:

also also, go croatia.
  9:15am Doug Schulkind:

I feel bad for the cunts, who have to be associated with that scum. Shit! Now I feel bad for the scum!
Avatar 9:19am fred:

Listener Stanley said that an Edinburgh brewery has a limited edition ale "celebreating" the Orange One called "The Child Catcher", with profits going to a children charity
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30am Jeff Golick:

Did others read that chilling Irish Times piece on how 45 and others are test-marketing fascism?
Avatar 9:32am TDK60:

Did you see that DJ John Allen on Friday had a special on Milford Graves w/guest DJ Jake Meginsky?
Avatar 9:33am fred:

@Jeff: No! Do you have a link to that?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35am Jeff Golick:

@fred; www.irishtimes.com...
Avatar 9:35am glenn:

somebody might be, but given all of trump's business failures, i don't think he's smart enough to test market anything.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36am doctorjazz:

Hello from the beautiful Berkshires! Great looking opening set, hiking and biking, catch the show in the archives. Great day, all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36am Jeff Golick:

@TDK60: Yes! Amazing. Followed by Sam Newsome on Kurt's show. And William Parker on Scott's Long Rally fill-in on Wednesday!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37am Jeff Golick:

@glenn: Yeah, I basically agree that there's no actual "plan" or "foresight" or "thinking," but he's something of an idiot savant when it comes to this stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38am Jeff Golick:

(No offense to the idiot savants out there.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39am Jeff Golick:

Hi, @doctorjazz! Enjoy the outdoors up there. One of my favorite places.
Avatar 9:43am TDK60:

I knew the Berkshires *long* ago: Alice's Restaurant in Stockbridge. Saw several great rock shows at Tanglewood in Lenox, by that lake.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47am doctorjazz:

Got to Tanglewood Friday night, classical program, Wagner, Mozart Schuman, was lovely. Dinner in Great Barrington with a blues based guitar player in the restaurant (played pop stuff, but also Mississippi John Hurtl). Off on a hike soon, maybe squeeze in a short mountain bike ride, then drive back to Jersey..just had a long weekend available, love it up here!
Avatar 9:50am fred:

@Jeff: chilling indeed. But not exactly breaking news to me, sadly, as I live in France, which has been steadily inching that way for years
Avatar 9:52am TDK60:

Saw B.B. King, The Who, Jefferson Airplane two days before Woodstock there! Also: Staple Singers, Iron Butterfly, Paul Butterfield, Janis Joplin, Joni Mitchell, and Boston Symphony do Stravinsky's Rite of Spring. Eons ago!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53am doctorjazz:

Isn't Trump basically test marketing fascism?
Avatar 9:55am fred:

On the other hand, I'm delighted to see Joe McPhee getting a well deserved award: www.chicagoreader.com...
Avatar 9:55am glenn:

trump's doing whatever putin wants him to. those peepee tapes must be damning.
Avatar 9:58am fred:

Hey, go easy on Trump: wouldn't you be cranky the day before your performance review meeting when the boss is Putin?
Avatar 10:06am TDK60:

Groovy indeed to hear Tony Allen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09am Jeff Golick:

Yes, @fred, that was great news re McPhee (and Susan Alcorn). Always good to find things to celebrate.

The thing that's getting to me right now is the dissolution of even the *appearance* of any kind of long-term relationships or commitments. It's *all* temporary, fungible, disposable, decisions a product of whatever is immediately required or desired. It's basically the dissolution of meaning...of order...of thought and reason having any influence on lives lived.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10am Jeff Golick:

But, counterpoint: Tony Allen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10am Stanley:

Hi all. I've emerged.
Too much 'commemorative' beer, last night.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11am Jeff Golick:

Avatar 10:11am fred:

There's a dance show inspired by Fela this month but I'll miss it (Ambra Senatore too, even worse) because I don't have a smartphone (eTickets or whatever only)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15am Jeff Golick:

@fred: ew, that's gross. And short-sighted on the presenter's part. And a bummer.
Avatar 10:16am TDK60:

Our hope is, rejection of racism. Diverse music can help, as in right here on WFMU! Not saying music can "save the world" but it points in that direction.
Avatar 10:18am fred:

@Jeff: Even Sonic Protest is going that way, I'm just an old guy who deserves to be kicked to the curb
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24am Jeff Golick:

@fred: Booooo.
  10:32am Listener Gregory:

Jeff, I *almost* went out for coffee, but then I decided to stay in so I could hear the show. Tea works.
  10:33am Doug Schulkind:

Oh wow is the coffee good in Greece. I believe that traces of espresso can now be isolated on slides of my DNA.
  10:34am Listener Gregory:

@Doug, that is uncalled for. But glad you're having a good time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34am Jeff Golick:

Honored, @Listener Gregory! Hiya!
  10:35am Listener Gregory:

Also, until I looked at the playlist, I thought Yo La Tengo was singing "He wants to fight." How did I miss "emulsified"?
Avatar 10:36am northguineahills:

getting a few minutes in before the WC final. Hallos Jeff!
Avatar 10:36am glenn:

speaking of greece, i can highly recommend the durrells, based on gerald durrell's corfu trilogy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37am Jeff Golick:

Hallo, @northguineahills!
Avatar 10:37am northguineahills:

I envy people who can drink coffee w/o getting sick....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37am Jeff Golick:

Thanks, as always, for the rec, @glenn. I'm on a Sebastien Japrisot kick right now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41am Jeff Golick:

@Doug: your trip got me to actually go to Facebook and look at some photos (Which is saying something.) It's filled me with a rare combination of joy (for you) and envy (for me).
Avatar 10:41am fred:

@ngh: is the final that soon?
Avatar 10:41am glenn:

it starts in 19 minutes, i think.
  10:41am Doug Schulkind:

@Listener Gregory
Thank you, Sir. Having a ball.
Avatar 10:44am TDK60:

Recall an '80s English new wave band Heaven 17 had a tune: "We Don't Need No Fascist Groove Thang."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45am Stanley:

Ah, we're back t' grooving
Avatar 10:46am northguineahills:

I won't be able to fit into the pub, I'm running late....(went out last night).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48am Stanley:

@TDK60 - I remember that one and a response to the Thatcher and Reagan governments. Banned by the spineless BBC. Good song, too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48am Jeff Golick:

@TDK60: oh, yeah! That'd be a great one.
Avatar 10:50am northguineahills:

about 10 years ago, I was walking through Bed-Stuy, and they had banners of prominent African-Americans from their hood at a cultural/community institute. Mos Def was one of them..
Avatar 10:51am fred:

@TDK60: GNOD had a release called "JUST SAY NO TO THE PSYCHO RIGHT-WING CAPITALIST FASCIST INDUSTRIAL DEATH MACHINE". I wore that T-shirt to my employer's mandatory feel-good retreat last year
Avatar 10:55am TDK60:

Fred: Hopefully, you're still employed?
Avatar 10:57am fred:

@TDK60: They'd have a hard time finding someone willing to work for what they pay, so yes
Avatar 10:58am northguineahills:

Thanks Jeff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59am Jeff Golick:

My pleasure, @ngh! Thanks for being here. Hope the match goes your way.
Avatar 10:59am fred:

@ngh: I'm rooting for you to win that bet
Avatar 11:01am coelacanth∅:

hey Jeff; OUTies
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11am Jeff Golick:

Hi there, @coelacanth∅!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am Stanley:

I love a show where this sort of stuff is more familiar territory!
Avatar 11:15am fred:

@Jeff: Maybe that's why you are a great match blogfiles.wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15am Jeff Golick:

Yes, well. "Expected" might be the better word?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18am Jeff Golick:

@fred: oh my.
Avatar 11:23am fred:

Sounds like France scored or close to it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34am Stanley:

Now Croatia has equalised. Visuals - BBC, sound - GTDR
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38am Jeff Golick:

...and Djokovic won Wimbledon. Big sports day for the Slavic nations.
Avatar 11:42am fred:

And Carol played Blancmange today, a worthy tribute to Wimbledon: www.youtube.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46am Jeff Golick:

  11:51am Listener Gregory:

Somehow Amalgam has escaped my notice for over 40 years. Jeff, please announce personnel when the time comes. This really doesn't sound like 1969.
Avatar 11:52am TDK60:

Thanks for the wonderful sounds today Jeff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52am Jeff Golick:

Sure, @Listener Gregory. It's a Trevor Watts-driven band. Here with John Stevens and Barry Guy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54am Jeff Golick:

You're welcome, @TDK60! Thanks for being here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59am Stanley:

Very enjoyable. No better way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
Thanks again, Jeff.
Avatar 12:02pm coelacanth∅:

Thanks Jeff
take care
  12:02pm Listener Gregory:

Excellent show, Jeff! I'm going on vacation and might not be physically present during the show for a while, but please try to carry on.
Avatar 12:03pm fred:

Thanks Jeff. Sadly I'll miss next week's show, so please avoid any technical mishaps while I'm away
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm Jeff Golick:

I'll try, @fred, but no promises.

Thanks, @Listener Gregory! Have a great vacation!

Thanks, too, to you, @Stanley! Take care.

Bye, @coel! Great to see you today.
