Actually, Little Jimmy Dickens was 4-11
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42am Scraps.:

One of his songs was “I’m Little But I’m Loud”. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45am Scraps.:

Oh! He recorded “May the Bird of Paradise Fly Up Your Nose”! Which means I’ve heard him since I was seven
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46am BronwynB:

i shouldn't have doubted the veracity of his littleness!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49am Scraps.:

You were thrown by the scare quotes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53am BronwynB:

scare quotes = scary
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59am Scraps.:

Awwwww. Love 5th Dimension. First six albums are fine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01am Scraps.:

My wonderful late wife turned me on to them, and Bones Howe
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01am Scraps.:

I mean, I knew the singles, but I didn’t know the albums at all.
  4:05am Scott in Tokyo:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14am Ken From Hyde Park:

Good morning, Bronwyn and sleepers. Heard this ELO track all the time on 70s AM radio.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15am BronwynB:

good morning ken! i bet i would have loved 70s am radio
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19am Scraps.:

It was great... but then, I grew up on 70s AM radio
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29am Scraps.:

I have 59 favorite Richard Thompson songs.
Or so.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31am BronwynB:

yeah i have something approaching that number as well
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32am BronwynB:

i grew up with his music- not only do my parents love him but my childhood/teenage fave radio station WXPN loves him
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33am BronwynB:

WFMU loves him too. who doesn't love him?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40am Scraps.:

Nice Roches
  4:41am Scott in Tokyo:

Oh this song as well. Yer killin me! Thanks for the wonderful
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42am Scraps.:

Funny, I was thinking right now about the McGarrigles, before you put the Roches on
  4:43am Clancey:

Beat broadcast I've heard in a long time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43am BronwynB:

thank YOU for listening scott :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43am BronwynB:

thank you so much clancey :)
  4:44am Scott in Tokyo:

Is that Fripp guitar?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45am BronwynB:

@scraps: the funny thing about the mcgarrigles and roches is that besides both being singing sister groups, they each had a member who had at least one baby with loudon wainwright
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45am BronwynB:

i told my mom this and she was like "didn't everyone have a baby with loudon wainwright"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45am BronwynB:

@scott: it is!
  4:46am DL in LA:

Roches are hitting the spot. Thanks! And that Black Family was timely!
Avatar 4:48am Billy Jam:

hey Bronwyn B - just tuning in now - but playlist for past hour and three quarter looks good
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49am BronwynB:

thanks DL! lol i picture trump and pence and kushner singing that one in harmony
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49am BronwynB:

hey billy!! i played aaron's legal ID that you sent earlier :D
Avatar 4:50am Billy Jam:

Nice!
Avatar 4:53am Billy Jam:

this melody reminds me of "Whiskey In THe Jar" slowed down and switched up a bit
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54am BronwynB:

it might be- phil had a habit of borrowing older melodies. the folk tradition ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57am Scraps.:

Another Richard Thompson...
Avatar 4:58am Howard F:

Good morning!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59am BronwynB:

yes! i played a richard thompson song and then this for a friend who was unfamiliar with any of it and he went "hey that's the same guitar player!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:00am BronwynB:

morning howard :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:01am Scraps.:

I kinda dislike Matty Groves now.... mostly because I’ve heard it so many times, and it’s a generic bad-woman-killed thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04am BronwynB:

good point about the seemingly woman-shaming nature of the story...i think fairport's version at least tries to make matty & lady darnell the heroes though. this one definitely doesn't have as good a story as the other well-known fairport folk song interpretation, tam lin, which has one of the best female protagonists in all of folklore, but it has a way better melody so they balance each other out...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05am BronwynB:

as you can see i have many opinions about fairport convention versions of old folk songs
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05am Scraps.:

Yep, Tam Lin and Matty Groves are lonnnnnng.... ;-)
Avatar 5:06am Howard F:

This DVR song is lovely. Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07am BronwynB:

yeah its so beautiful. so sad though
Avatar 5:07am fred:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17am Scraps.:

Avatar 5:17am Billy Jam:

@ Fred in France - hope u are well @Bronwyn - am a longtime fan of the Black family, especially Mary Black
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20am BronwynB:

yay im glad you like them too!! i've been a fan ever since i first heard their version of "donkey riding" as a kid, on the aforementioned ex-favorite radio station WXPN
Avatar 5:21am fred:

Hey Billy! I've not been able to listen to your show much these days. I can't listen at work, which makes it hard to catch up with the archives, but hopefully that will change
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22am Scraps.:

I have to lie down, but I’m still listening. Another great show. Cheers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22am BronwynB:

Any time is good for Oscar. lovin' this.
Avatar 5:24am Billy Jam:

@Fred - last three weeks (including yesterday) played brand new pieces by ALF with DJ Quest - exclusive session recorded for WFMU
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24am BronwynB:

yay im glad you like it!!
Avatar 5:27am fred:

@Billy: Great timing! I have next week off from work, so I'll have time to hit the archives
Avatar 5:30am Billy Jam:

@Fred - and if you like the pieces enough and you want myself or ALF can send u DropBox download link to each individual part - just let me know
Avatar 5:34am fred:

@Billy: I'd love that! This way I could listen to them while walking, which is my favorite way to listen to music (also, no live show competition, as I don't have a phone)
Avatar 5:36am Billy Jam:

haha - from my endless hours of editing for airplay - rap songs with curses - I could tell that the bit silenced and what it rhymed with was going to be "fuck"
Avatar 5:37am Billy Jam:

@Fred email me at billyjam@wfmu.org
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41am Scraps.:

[getting up briefly] Terry Allen is great. His second album, =Lubbock (on Everything)= is just, just awesome. [going back to bed]
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45am BronwynB:

@billy: it was actually multiple fucks in a row which is pretty intense for 1975
Avatar 5:47am fred:

@Billy: done
Avatar 5:49am Sem:

Wow, BB, mining a rich seam of fabulousness. Many thank yous.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49am BronwynB:

thank YOU sem :)
Avatar 5:59am Billy Jam:
