The top ("Ding") side has a center 'note' hammered into it and seven or eight 'tone fields' hammered around the center. The bottom ("Gu") is a plain surface that has a rolled hole in the center with a tuned note that can be created when the rim is struck. The Hang uses some of the same basic physical principles as a steelpan, but modified in such a way as to act as a Helmholtz resonator. The creation of the Hang was the result of many years of research on the steelpan and other instruments. The inventors of the Hang have continued to refine the shape and materials and have produced several variations over the years.  *   1:08:05 (Pop‑up)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:09am Stanley:

Most welcome, Sem. Usual address c/o The Zoo
Avatar 7:11am Sem:

Plans for a mid-October Scotland-based holiday are underway. There's a swing jazz thing on Skye which sounds interesting, Stanley.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:12am CarolCrow:

Good morning, David! Hello, debt collector! Love to you both (and all) from Jersey City:)
Avatar 7:13am fred:

@Stanley: Some researchers at work went to a conference in Edinburgh last fall. They were treated to a whisky tasting session that left quite an impression. More support for my campaign to have the company-supplied Xmas gift cards switched to a brand that's redeemable at Maison du Whisky (sadly, the ones we currently get are not)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:20am Stanley:

@Sem - the golden era of the 30s, 40s & 50s? Sounds a bit of a silver haired fest to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:21am Stanley:

Ah, the water of life, fred. Good luck with that

Hi Carol and anyone checking the comments board after hours. Great show again. Nice to get 2 from Simple Minds! The highlight was Of Zen and Texas (my Baguazhang teacher is from Fort Worth so there's a correlation for me). I'm also going to have to check out more of the Polish Radio experimental album. See you in the archives again next week.
