re: Velvet Underground at the Matrix
Practically all of the live VU material from the '60s sounds like open-air audience tapes. These Matrix recordings are the only ones that sound like they have a more planned "professional" recording set up for a label project or some such.

Had this one! Thanks for playing Roy, Joe!
Avatar 10:37am Joe McG:

Thanks, Alexandra...now that we're in Rock City, it can only get better! ;) @Krys: You bet!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38am TheLoneliestMonk:

anyone tune in to 'rock n' roller derby' yet?
think it's a pretty good addition to the 'FMU lineup...
  10:38am Listener Alexandra:

Rock on, Joe ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38am pantz:

Rock City is nice but it's no Big Bone Lick, KY.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38am listener monica:

Good morning Joe! I am taking an overheat day off, and am home celebrating the opening of the PULASKI SKYWAY which brings me better physical access to the station!
  10:39am GListener MW:

I don't think i've ever transitioned from loving to loathing as quickly as "rock city" here. :/
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40am frozen_peas:

Joe, my Alternagrrrl marathon premium came in the mail and I've been listening to it with embarrassing frequency. It's amazing!!
Avatar 10:40am Joe McG:

@GLMW: It's the small things that make us happiest.
Avatar 10:41am Joe McG:

Thanks, frozen_p! I had so much fun making it.
Avatar 10:44am duke:

A lot of folks have done this song, but you can't beat the Billy Stewart original.
Avatar 10:45am Joe McG:

@monica: I can't believe the day has come!
  10:45am GListener MW:

I think the "city" suffix evoked painful memories of "Hot Shot City" by David Hasselhoff
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46am Krys O.:

Wow, nice C&W cover of Monkees.
Avatar 10:46am Jeff Moore:

DuPont stopped making Orlon polyacrylonitrile fabric in 1990. All we have left is the band name and some slowly degrading garments in thrift shops and Bill Zurat's closet.
  10:47am Brendan:

The Monkees always remind me of cereal box records and carefully cutting it out with scissors . @Joe have you ever played one of those on single file? I just did an online search - the images brought back memories.
  10:47am GListener MW:

Fantastically lazy+summery show this morning though, Joe :) it's a statutory holiday / "Beach Day" here in Toronto, and i'll be hitting the B later today in fact
Avatar 10:47am dfb:

as i love the monkees and country and western, i'm good with this. thanks
  10:47am paul:

Did N. Diamond approve this?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48am bob ross had a pet squirrel named peapod:

had to sign in to favorite that country "i'm a believer"
Avatar 10:49am Joe McG:

@Brendan: No, I don't have any of them! Just a Sugar Bears one. @bob: Hey Bob!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50am Planet Tyler:

Oy there was a time when I listened to Dusty in Memphis practically everyday. Great stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52am Mick:

Christmas Gas?
  10:52am paul:

Classical Gassleeves
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52am Ken From Hyde Park:

Good morning, Joe and noisers. I hope the wax isn't melting in there.
  10:52am Agent Peter:

He's more than just classical gas you know..
Is this also with the Smothers Brothers Show studio band?
Avatar 10:53am Joe McG:

@Mick: That's what you get when you eat too much fruitcake.
  10:54am paul:

Is this Glen Campbell?
Avatar 10:56am Jeff Moore:

Easy breezy Greensleevesy.

Except I kind of can't hear the song without hearing Allan Sherman's lyrics in my head.
  10:56am queems:

i like this libra
Avatar 10:58am Stashu:

Libra by Sagittarius, next thing you know the kids will be wearing shoes on the heads and hats on their feet!
  10:58am Brendan:

Wow...apparently that Bakersfield sounding Tony Anderson a few songs back was the voice of the Surfing Bird.
Avatar 10:58am dfb:

i like that this song is as old as i am
Avatar 10:59am Joe McG:

@Stashu: You are my idol.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59am Mick:

@Joe: a risk few are willing to take. @Agent Peter: I didn't know that about the Smothers Bros band!
  10:59am paul:

Wasn't GC a member of Sagittarius at one time?
Avatar 11:00am Joe McG:

@paul: I don't think so. It was a Gary Usher-Curt Boettcher studio project. He might play on it somewhere, but I don't remember seeing his name...
  11:02am paul:

Hmm. Ok. Thanks, Joe!
Avatar 11:03am Stashu:

You're also my idol. But idol worship is the Devil.
  11:10am paul:

According to wikipedia...for what it's worth... Glen sang the lead vocals on My World Fell Down.
  11:11am Brendan:

... and idol hands are the devil’s workshop. Which gives me conflicted thoughts. I always imagined the devils workshop to be a high school woodshop class taught by a dude with a soul patch.
Avatar 11:11am JakeGould:

Whoa! I missed the anti-drug stuff. Is there a reason? Anyway, idol-worship is ridiculous… Except for that Golden Calf!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am Ken From Hyde Park:

Brazil has taken a 1-0 lead in the second half. Let's see if Mexico can get one back. Also, let's see if there's time for some Billy Idol.
  11:14am melinda:

Love Richard and Mimi
  11:15am judy from croton:

Didn’t think it was possible to make this moment in time any better. Brooksville Maine vacation with the family in the trees on the water. And then you played this song. Ah, Joe McGasko.
Avatar 11:17am Joe McG:

@Ah, Judy, thanks for checking in. I'm jealous that you are in Maine!
Avatar 11:21am northguineahills:

The mexis better get one back, I'm wearing my El Tri jersey at work.... (watching the game on my extra monitor).

Avatar 11:35am Sem:

I am mellowing so quickly here, Joe, Im trying to remember where I left my copy of the Whole Earth Catalog...
Avatar 11:35am Rev. Turnip Druid:

The St.George's Cross full-size flag is up in this office window. Tomorrow will need all the mojo possible by flag mojo-ing, maximum flaggy mojoism. Mojification.
Avatar 11:37am Joe McG:

@Sem: Ha ha ha. Your sriracha sandals are under the bed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am pantz:

I got off the smack and started on the speed, like you were encouraging in your first set, but now you're getting mellow. Stop messing with my trip, Joe!
  11:40am melinda:

What are sriracha sandals?
Avatar 11:40am Joe McG:

@pantz: This is the come down.
Avatar 11:41am Sem:

Pass the thiamine.
  11:41am melinda:

I'm mellowing too
Avatar 11:41am Joe McG:

@melinda: Another word for huaraches, pretty much.
  11:42am judy from croton:

Just finishing up my macrame plant holder here.
Avatar 11:43am Jeff Moore:

Maybe he means that woven leather huarache footwear.

[ah, he just said that]
Avatar 11:43am Joe McG:

@judy: The one I made in 6th grade still exists! My mom has a plant in it.
  11:44am prudy:

85 degrees in northwestern catskills 1700 feet above sea level.
  11:44am Brendan:

Sriracha shoes were the earliest known hot foots
Avatar 11:45am Joe McG:

Don't the Beach Boys have a song that mentions those sandals?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46am Krys O.:

Surfin' USA does, Joe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46am Booz:
