Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm Michael 98145:

Avatar 3:34pm northguineahills:

@Rev: My father's side is mostly Scottish, and my mother's is mostly English since the Scots haven't been football relevant in 20+ years, I usually attempt to root for England, but even today, they are usually more frustrating then watching the USMNT. (takes solace that our USWNT kicks ass...usually)
Avatar 3:35pm northguineahills:

Avatar 3:38pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

@NGH: Mr. & Mrs. RTD are English by DNA, but if fortune vomited a ton of cash in my lap, I'd haul it to DK in half a heartbeat. Thus, dual-loyalty. Blood versus some fantasy of retirement.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm Carmichael:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm chris:

well hell, this ain't country or western, Carm.
Avatar 4:14pm Cecile:

You know how Milo Yiannapolis talked about how great it would be if death squads shot up newsrooms? Someone just shot up a newsroom in New Jersey. People died and were wounded. Sorry to bring this crappy news.
Avatar 4:15pm northguineahills:

@Carmichael: I stopped explaining years ago. It's also why at my previous job I got the no-headphones rule discarded. My superiors couldn't stand my sounds (I had a coworker that did...)

Oh, Tomutonttu!!!!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm Devin B.:

Hadn't seen that yet, VP. RIP Steve and Harlan.
Avatar 4:22pm geezerette:

This ASC piece is comforting.
  4:23pm V Priceless:

This freaking country is going to hell. We gotta wrestle it back from these hatefull asshats. We gotta.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm Devin B.:

Amen to that. Feels like we're approaching a tipping point.
Avatar 4:25pm Cecile:

I had a co-worker who was a close friend of Harlan. Every year they'd have a mini convention and get together. The last one was about 7 years ago because Harlan said "I'm old and I'm going to die. It might be tomorrow, it might be 20 years for now, but this is the last one."
Avatar 4:26pm Cecile:

the Harlan super-fans and friends would get together.
  4:28pm V Priceless:

that’s very cool, C.! And by the way, I say this half-jokingly, but can’t some shitty people just fucking die already??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm diciassette aka ratón:

Avatar 4:30pm geezerette:

Feels like I'm always trying to push away the sense that everything's unraveling, faster & faster. It's underneathe everything. All my life I've hoped we'd never have to feel that way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm Michael 98145:

what VP said. yes.
Avatar 4:31pm Cecile:

exactly, geezerette.
Avatar 4:33pm Cecile:

And my friend told me that at least two people threatened to kill him (my friend) and several fistfights broke out at the con. He said it was pretty par for the course - Harlan tended to attract very strong personalities, to put it mildly.
Avatar 4:33pm Lixiviated Life:

Avatar 4:33pm Chris from DC:

Yeah, that seems accurate Geezerette.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm Mick:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm Michael 98145:

'Turning and turning in the widening gyre...' things fall apart when apathy is king.
  4:34pm nic:

yeah great !!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm jkeigh:

That was pretty awesome. Fripp./Eno vibe if you don't mind my saying
Avatar 4:35pm Cecile:

My co-worker was prone to exaggeration, but he was also prone to instigation, so I think at least one of those threats and fistfights happened.
Avatar 4:36pm geezerette:

Ellison had a show on KPFK when I was in high school.
It was weird and scary and funny.

Fabio, that definitely was freaking great!!! Thanks for playing.
Avatar 4:37pm coelacanth∅:

  4:37pm V Priceless:

I think Ellison was notorious for stirring the pot, to say the least. He had no super-ego.

  4:42pm nic:

Avatar 4:42pm Cecile:

The Grace Kelly biopic with Nicole Kidman is delightfully awful. When it aired on Lifetime for like one day, the writer live tweeted his apologies and every single insane change made to his script by the producers

Avatar 5:40pm coelacanth∅:

true, but the majority of premiums don't remain in the warehouse for very long though. i missed out on one last time around. it was listed as available but someone else must've gotten the last one just before mine was to be shipped out.

Avatar 5:48pm northguineahills:

yeah, that's the ticket, Carmichael! Let me guess, you're married to Morgan Fairchild? ;)
Avatar 5:48pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

First FMU shirt (or the one in worst condition) is a Choking on Cufflinks number; gotta be about a decade of steady wear at this point.
Avatar 5:48pm dale:

i hate to admit many of my fmu tees became paint rags. i wear the heck out of them.
Avatar 5:49pm Jeff Moore:

@Carmichael: Right? My leather jacket from the 1980s shrank really badly.

Avatar 5:49pm coelacanth∅:

one of my favorite fmu ts got stolen by my sister's "house cleaner". just from 3-4 years ago, cream white with a bird or 2 on it. very pretty and a little small for me. she probably stole it for her child. it's not available any more.
Avatar 5:51pm northguineahills:

you may quote me.
Avatar 5:52pm coelacanth∅:

maybe 1/3 of the wfmu ts i got i never liked! (then there are a few i really wanted but couldn't afford to donate those years, like the day of the dead one - also unavailable) those i didn't like became work shirts, but still - never disposed of. (at least not by me)
Avatar 5:53pm Chris from DC:
