Greetings and whatever.

Avatar 12:14pm Mary Wing:

Howdy, Brian, Carm, and medson!
Hello rw, Ike, Sem, and Ken! We are all here together!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm doctorjazz:

Reminds a bit of Astral Weeks, in a mellow way.
Hey all!
Avatar 12:15pm βrian:

Wait, where's the paddle, boat-members?

Let there be parsley.
Avatar 12:26pm Mary Wing:

Hey there doctorjazz and Dean! Let us see if the doctor is correct...
  12:30pm rw:

I was thinking Arthur Russell...
Avatar 12:31pm βrian:

My VM allergy is flaring up. Time to get some lunch, I guess.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm Carmichael:

My boy Van ...
  12:34pm rw:

Speaking of lunch, my son is 16 years old and now that school is out he and his friends are eating everything in sight. It's out of control.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm doctorjazz:

Glad we get to hear Van the Man.
I'm definitely right, it does remind me of Astral Weeks (it may not remind anyone else
  12:36pm rw:

I'm with you doc. Even though I was thinking AR, AW may be a more apt comparison.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm Carmichael:

I learned to play guitar to these last 2 songs.Mary, get out of my youth!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm doctorjazz:

Richard Davis bass and Connie Kaye are great on that album, Davis particularly takes off!
Avatar 12:41pm Mary Wing:

Heh heh heh, Carm. Play us a little ditty, won't you?
Avatar 12:42pm Roberto:

I was going to say Sandro sounded quite a lot like Arthur.
Avatar 12:44pm Mary Wing:

Your son is 16, rw? Wow, time files; I still think of him as that little kid standing on your car. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm Bas NL:

10% too late.. still 90% to enjoy! Hello Mary & all! :D
Avatar 12:47pm Mary Wing:

Hi Bas! It's 166% Whatever today--I'm filling in for Ridgewood Radio!
Avatar 12:48pm Jeff Moore:

So much Whatever!

  12:48pm rw:

Ha! Yep. That car is still in at my mechanic's! That photo was the last picture of the car before it went in for paint, etc. When you saw that picture the car had been in the shop for several years so it hasn't been THAT long. Time does fly though!
Avatar 12:49pm Mary Wing:

Thankfully, you've seen your son a bit more often than the car... right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm Bas NL:

  12:53pm rw:

Yes! He's a great kid! My daughter too. I'd do a bit of bragging but it always annoys me when parents brag about their kids. Time to head off to work. Need $ to stock the refrigerator.

Thanks Mary! Later kids! Will be listening to the show in traffic for the next hour or so.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm doctorjazz:

Fun set, finger's getting tired from pressing those clicky stars. (just can't clicky star Cat Stevens, even though I like the early stuff).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm doctorjazz:

This Peralta track, aside from being intense and interesting, has great sound quality, from what I can tell in my office.
  1:00pm Dean:

Brag away, @rw. There's "bragging" and "bragadoccio." It helps to learn about how great actual "kids these days" can be. My kids, 7 and 12, are most definitely great, big-hearted people.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm Carmichael:

I found a documentary of Cat Stevens (with a long lost live concert from the 70s) in a thrift store for a buck. It's called Majikat. Don't know if it's out there now on Netflix, etc ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm doctorjazz:

Might have to pick it up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm Carmichael:

First time I've heard Peralta. Love it, clicky starred it, and would ding! it if I had a dinger.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm doctorjazz:

Just can't get used to.my girls being 20 and 24.
Avatar 1:02pm βrian:

Mary is the keeper of the ding.
  1:03pm Dean:

This the new Nels Cline?
  1:04pm Dean:

Trombone, nope.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm Carmichael:

My twin girls just turned 21. I came home the other day to one of them standing in the kitchen drinking my beer. That's when it hit me ...
Avatar 1:05pm βrian:

"... Hey, that's my beer!"
Avatar 1:06pm Mary Wing:

Sadly, Austin Peralta died in 2012, I think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm doctorjazz:

That's a tuba, if my ears serve me...
  1:07pm Dean:

Yes, tuba. I'm listening on a new Mac with worse speakers than my beat-up Dell.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm doctorjazz:

Great track!
  1:09pm Dean:

I've actually heard the new Nels Cline album, or most of it. The sound is spectacular, but somehow I hear him working to find his way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm doctorjazz:

Too spoiled to listen on computer speakers (though I'll go straight out of my phone sometimes). The office set up is just rediculous, but it makes me happy.
Avatar 1:11pm βrian:

Thank heavens Macs still have audio ports, so you can listen with real ear phones. For now ...
  1:13pm Dean:

One day I'll extract my tiny Linn system from the boxes on the shelf where it has resided for years at home. My full home system feeds only hardware: LPs and CDs, no streams. And I can't bear headphones or earbuds. So, ironically, my vast amount of listening to WFMU is via desktop, laptop, or Chromebook.
Avatar 1:13pm βrian:

Experiencing a little cog diss until I realized I was on another stream. Thank Bob for playlists.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm doctorjazz:

Which Nels album, Dean? With the Quartet? The Nels Cline 4...saw them in Manhattan a few months ago Julian Lage on guitar great rhythm section. I like it don't love it, it's an odd place for him.
  1:20pm Dean:

Yes, the Blue Note, NC4. On loan to me from a friend.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm Webhamster Henry:

Hi Mary and 100%ers! if you ever do a Mission Impossible N-of-a-kind, be sure to use the Kane Triplets one with lyrics. There's also one played on a massive calliope that doesn't play it in 5 for some reason!
Avatar 1:37pm Mary Wing:

Hi Henry, great idea!
Avatar 1:43pm βrian:

A paisly calliope, I hope.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm steveo:

  2:07pm Dean:

How come the Virgin America label isn't now Alaska?
Avatar 2:08pm Mary Wing:

Hi Steveo! Yep, plenty of whatever left for you today!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm ɨkɛ:

Wow, I'd forgotten about this corny song. I briefly liked this when I was 12. The lyric about waiting by the phone is especially dated now.
Avatar 2:11pm Mary Wing:

Heh, yeah, now it would be "waiting for your text reply"

Avatar 3:02pm Sem:

Mary, Mary, Mary: 100% Marathon music maven.

@coel: Think it was 102 hours.
Avatar 3:05pm Mary Wing:

100 hours and 42 seconds, in May 2001.
Avatar 3:07pm coelacanth∅:

jeez this guy nearly doubled it then. that's >4-1/3 days straight for Jonsie; >8-1/2 days for Mr. Venneri.
...i'd have to have a damn good reason to do that to my body. (like saving someone's life, or lots of money...)
Avatar 3:08pm coelacanth∅:

(no i meant ">8.5 days")
Avatar 3:15pm northguineahills:

I once stayed up for 5.5 days studying for my senior BA finals, but that's only 132 hours, and I was hallucinating and lacking depth perception ("wow, those pigeons are huge!), and by the time I finished my last exam, a friend came up to me and tried to talk to me, and I couldn't literally speak.
Avatar 3:17pm Mary Wing:

Yeah, seriously, why would anyone *want* to put themselves through that?
Avatar 3:25pm geezerette:

Sun Ra is as much as music can ever be.

Avatar 3:29pm Mary Wing:

Hi geezerette! Glad you could join us!
Avatar 3:31pm geezerette:

Thanks! Once again, glad for archives!
Avatar 3:32pm coelacanth∅:

i had a period of around 2 years when i rarely slept over 2 hours/day; and another year, in my twenties, when i only slept 2-3 nights/week. that did permanent harm to me.
(not to belabor an issue. i was not at the computer)

hey g!
Avatar 3:34pm geezerette:

Avatar 3:36pm coelacanth∅:

(& to belabor further) ngh how did you do on the exams? it's not a snarky question...sometimes our bodies/minds respond in extraordinary ways to crisis; so i'm genuinely curious.
Avatar 3:36pm Mary Wing:

the body and the mind need to rest; that sounds pretty sucky, coel.
Avatar 3:37pm βrian:

@coel: Deep-water species can get away with that.
Avatar 3:38pm βrian:

I found that sleeping on my study materials improved my exam results.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm Bas NL:

Isn't it (some) birds that can put half their brain to sleep?
Avatar 3:40pm coelacanth∅:

βrian i guess so. i guess i was an ugly, greasy, fowl-tasting deep water fish with little commercial value aside from being a curiosity long before i knew i was.
Avatar 3:41pm northguineahills:

@βrian: learning by osmosis!

@coel: On the next to last exam, even w/ a pitcher of coffee, I fell asleep and failed the exam and my A in the class went to a C. My last exam I got a B-, which dragged my grade down a wee bit, but the other ones I did quite well.
Avatar 3:41pm βrian:

Lung may you prosper, Coel!
Avatar 3:41pm coelacanth∅:

Bas i've read that as well. don't remember what species.
Avatar 3:42pm northguineahills:

Avatar 3:57pm Mary Wing:

The dawdle queue always forms behind me, heh!

Is there such a thing as a Studio Skank artist, someone who just strums that one chord?
Avatar 4:31pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

@Brian Covered in stiff bristles?
@Bas Thanks...about to enlarge it in 25 minutes!
Avatar 4:31pm βrian:

I'm pretty sure I heard that very sleeping/snoring track on Radio BoredCast.
Avatar 4:32pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever: Wed. 5-7pm ET):

Brian: Call in live next time I'm doing a live show taking call-ins (Mon. July 16th 2-4pm ET @ lastever.org) and then sleep.

My friend and I tried to get the local radio stations when we were in HS to play "Take on Me" to no avail. So, we found a cassingle and got the college station to play it. (I still have it).
Avatar 4:37pm Mary Wing:

Ah, the cassingle, heh.

Hard to believe next Wednesday is the 4th of Whatever. If I'm at the Garbecue, I'll wave up to the Studio C window.
Avatar 4:39pm northguineahills:

email me Kenzo, so I can remember. (i'll probably too busy to call-in, but will listen).
Avatar 4:40pm Mary Wing:

Garbecue? I want in on that!
Avatar 4:40pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever: Wed. 5-7pm ET):

Too bad you didn't have the 8-track so you could have it fade out half-way through the song and then kathunk to next track and then resume
Avatar 4:43pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever: Wed. 5-7pm ET):

I'll bet 8-track singles divided the song into 4 such sections
Avatar 4:45pm Mary Wing:

Take on me.... <kathunk>
Take me on... <kathunk>
I'll be gone.... <kathunk>
Straight into your <kathunk> DREEEEAAMS
