Hi David and all, sounded like Slam Stewart on that bass.
Avatar 4:08pm David D:

You are correct, doctorjazz, and you surely know this one too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm Stanley:

Right, the footie is over and here I am.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm doctorjazz:

The only sad thing about Statman discovering and moving to Klezmer music is that he played much less mandolin... He's such a monster on it (not that he's a slouch on clarinet)
Avatar 4:12pm David D:

Greetings, Stanley - yes the World Cup hosts are doing well so far this year.
Avatar 4:15pm David D:

Okay, here's some clarinet to make up for it...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm Parq:

Attending an event hosted by Antique Phonograph DJ MAC recently, I was struck by a clarinet solo in a Dixieland recording. Somewhere after World War II and the Glenn Miller sound, clarinets fell out of favor in jazz. There just weren't a whole lot of bebop clarinetists, for instance.
Avatar 4:19pm David D:

Good point, Parq. I always wonder how instruments fall in and out of favor.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm doctorjazz:

Buddy Collette was a bebop clarinet player, but he was the exception that proved the rule. It did come back in the post bop Era, 90s or so in jazz.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm Mark Hurst:

Hey David, just made it onto the Subway!
Avatar 4:41pm David D:

Welcome aboard, Mark!
Avatar 4:46pm northguineahills:

Back,Been listening while cleaning lab equipment in the rain. Thoroughly soaked! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm Mark Hurst:

Outdoor lab?
Avatar 4:54pm David D:

NGH: Sounds like "fun". What sort of lab is that?
Avatar 4:57pm northguineahills:

Environmental science. Did some soil core samples from the everglades for a study. For once I'm not drowning in to much work, so w/ the down time, I volunteered to get the mud etc out of the vessels. It start to thunderstorm, and didn't bother me in the least, helped me clean up faster.
Avatar 4:59pm northguineahills:

I'm still waiting for a dj to do a 24 hour marathon fill-in (raises hand).

(my band played w/ performance artists, dancers, and a lots of everything for 24 hours once for a friend's happening project (we did take breaks).
Avatar 5:00pm northguineahills:

too much work. Can't English.
Avatar 5:00pm TDK60:

Hola, Wie gehts...
Avatar 5:03pm David D:

Salut, TDK60!
Avatar 5:05pm David D:

NGH: I guess Glen Jones broke the mold there back in the day with his 100 hours. You can still listen to the archive at wfmu.org.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm Stanley:

At this time of year, here in Edinburgh the night lasts only 4 hours before it starts to get light again.
Avatar 5:11pm northguineahills:

Nice Sun City Girls, hadn't heard this cut!
Avatar 5:13pm David D:

Stanley: Is there a shimmer in the sky throughout?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm Stanley:

David - there is. It's a bit eerie.
Avatar 5:18pm northguineahills:

Wow, I missed that glenn jones
Avatar 5:24pm David D:

NGH: Well it was back in 2001, in fact. He set the official on-air record.
Avatar 5:24pm David D:

Stanley: Yes, I can imagine. I'd like to take in some real midnight sun some year...
Avatar 5:25pm northguineahills:

Ahh, I was grad school at the time, I rarely had time to listen.
Avatar 5:25pm TDK60:

This music should fit up in olde Edinburgh "Twill by Twilight". Always good to hear some classical.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm Stanley:

I love the music of Toru Takemitsu. You don't hear him played much.
Avatar 5:29pm David D:

It does sound rather twilit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:36pm doctorjazz:

Gotta run now, catch more of the marathon when I get home. Thanks David!
Avatar 5:37pm David D:

Thanks, Doctorjazz, have a safe ride home...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm Stanley:

What an enjoyable set
Avatar 5:41pm northguineahills:

Takemitsu-Les Tambiyrs du Bronx-Esmerine, wow!!!!
Avatar 5:42pm northguineahills:

It's dark where I am (ginormous thunderstorm a'coming)
Avatar 5:43pm northguineahills:

I was in Iceland in November, sun rose at 10:30, set at 15:30
Avatar 5:47pm northguineahills:

(can't imagine what it would be like around the December solstice)
Avatar 5:51pm northguineahills:

(dj shadow's "midnight in a perfect" world would work
Avatar 5:54pm David D:

Thanks Stanley and NGH!
Avatar 5:54pm David D:

Yes, I think I'd rather go for the midnight sun myself. But midday dark could be interesting for a day or two, I guess.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:15pm Jeff Golick:

Hey, David. Gonna take you with me on my drive home...apprope, as dusk approaches.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:24pm Stanley:

Time for me bed, I'm afraid. I will catch up on the archive later, if only to see whether 'Twilight World' by Czukay/Wobble/Liebezeit gets played.
Thanks David and have fun the rest of the night.
Avatar 6:25pm David D:

Hey, Jeff, glad to join you on your way...
Avatar 6:26pm David D:

Stanley: Something like that might show up. Anyhow, have a good night!
Avatar 6:31pm northguineahills:

Ok, now I'm freezing, it was 97F/36C outside before the rain, and our office is a cool 72F/21C b/c of the plants experiments in here, and I'm still soaking wet.
Avatar 6:36pm David D:

Is there a greenhouse room or something?
Avatar 6:37pm David D:

It sounds like quite a workplace in any case.
Avatar 6:39pm northguineahills:

Nope, not until we expand our office in July, the office space is the only climate controlled area we have for now. We mostly study freshwater subaquatic plants and soil.
Avatar 6:42pm northguineahills:

this Tulipaństwo is nice!
Avatar 6:45pm David D:

Sounds like an interesting place to work in any case. But try to dry off somehow...
Avatar 6:48pm northguineahills:

Oh, this is the best job I've ever had, I just wish I usually could work a normal 40 hour week and get paid more. W/. my ADD, it's fun to do multiple tasks and learn about topic I usually wouldn't.
Avatar 6:58pm David D:

Sounds good to me - better to enjoy longer hours than dread shorter workdays, I guess.
Avatar 7:01pm northguineahills:

Anthony Braxton, my Bodhisattva! I said something to that effect when I met Tyondai Braxton, he was cool about it. I used to run into Tyondai at the bagel shops and local bars, he was fun to chat w/.
Avatar 7:02pm northguineahills:

yeah, in NYC I was making a ton more money, but if you're freelancing/subcontracting for a few weeks or a month, it's all rather pointless, and you're constantly stressed looking for work while working.
Avatar 7:07pm David D:

NGH: Wow, I guess that was in NY too. Interesting crowd at the bars (and bagelries) over there...
Avatar 7:11pm northguineahills:

(miss decent real bagels)
Avatar 7:11pm northguineahills:

New Old Luten Quintet, new to me!
Avatar 7:11pm David D:

We actually have decent bagels here - a couple of guys went over to the US and learned the trade.
Avatar 7:15pm David D:

Luten is Ernst-Ludwig Petrowsky, jazz musician from back in the GDR era.
Avatar 7:26pm northguineahills:

Only NYC or Montreal bagels for me!

Ok, leaving work, hear ya at home.
Avatar 7:27pm David D:

Okay, have a good trip home...
  7:28pm Doug Schulkind:

Greetings, marathon man!
Avatar 7:38pm David D:

It's the streammaster! How are things?
  7:47pm Doug Schulkind:

I’ve been taking a lot of naps. So... good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:50pm doctorjazz:

And I'm back! Missed the jazz set. Love Benny Carter... Saw him many, many times in NYC. He once came over to me, I was buying a "fake book" someone was selling outright the club (I thought I could learn to play jazz at one point ) and started the nicest conversation about music and studying music. He was a real sweetheart
Avatar 7:50pm David D:

Sounds good to me, naps are underrated.
Avatar 7:52pm David D:

Doctorjazz: Wow, it is great to hear he was such a nice person to meet. And not to worry, some form of jazz is never too far off here...
Avatar 8:18pm northguineahills:

Is Skubas the Polish Beck?
Avatar 8:20pm David D:

I just know that Żywiec is the Polish Beck's.
Avatar 8:27pm northguineahills:

jaja, David! Can't find Zywiec in FL, it's everywhere in NYC.
Avatar 8:29pm David D:

Yes, I was surprised to see it so much there in March, myself. How are the local brews?
Avatar 8:39pm northguineahills:

There are four microbreweries in this town alone, all pretty damn good. My local footy pub has forty taps, I try everyone. My new fave is a Michigan based brewery that did an habanero-cucumber ale (and I usually don't like fruity beers).
Avatar 8:55pm northguineahills:

For you WC and PB fans out there: i.imgur.com...
Avatar 8:58pm David D:

Habanero-cucumber, that is creative to say the least! They've just recently begun to stock American-style ales in shops here, but that is surely a long way off.
Avatar 9:05pm northguineahills:

Thanks David. Rain stopped, about to walk to the pub now that I'm home and dried off. Cheers !
Avatar 9:06pm David D:

Thank you, NGH, enjoy your evening!
