Ridgewood Radio features concert recordings by adventurous bands and experimental musicians and restored archival tapes from private and institutional collections captured at venues large and small across the five boroughs of New York. It is produced by David Weinstein and Outpost Artists Resources operating out of the Ridgewood section of Queens, NY, where you'll find more yellow bricks than on the road to Oz and the cemetery of your choice is never more than a few blocks from home.

Listen to this show:  Pop‑up player!

Z'EV at The Clocktower Gallery, 2010

(in advance of the free memorial concert at the Kitchen on June 23, 2018)
and a journey through language gymnastics from Jennifer Walshe & Tony Conrad,
Meredith Monk, and Shelley Hirsch. Outré with a bang.

Artist Track Album Label Year Comments
Z'EV  #38 Outro 0 bpm   Options Face The Wound  Soleilmoon Recordings  2005  From an album of many spoken word/broadcast tidbits and sound vignettes.
Malawi Mouse Boys  Kulira Kwambewa (The Crying of the Mouse)   Options Forever is 4 U  Omnivore Records  2016  Ridgewood Radio Theme https://lovesupportunite.org

Music behind DJ:
Coro Arquidiocesano De Santa Fé De La Vera Cruz

Gregorian Chant Mashup   Options

Canto Gregoriano a Vierge Marie

EGMusic Classics

Weinstein mix of two tracks from this album, turning monophonic line into harmonic mashup of Gregorian chant. Shameful.
Ma La Pert: Jennifer Walshe & Tony Conrad  Live Set Recording   Options Roulette Concert Series  Roulette Intermedium  19 Feb 10  Ma la Pert (was) the duo of Jennifer Walshe and Tony Conrad. They use voice, violins, viola, bass, autoharps, autotune, keyboard, shells, broken plastic, words, parts of words, stories, chanting, jigs, screaming, shouting, broken drum skins, bells, green furry outfits, breastplates, wire, bird call, and old lady dresses.

Z'EV  Solo Z#1   Options Rubhitbangklanghear Rubhitbangklangear  Sub Rosa  2013  A very fine example of the solo work Z'EV was making with the setup pictured above. A master of metallurgy and stretched skin dynamics, Z'EV engineered most of his instruments and developed unique techniques to coax the sound from them.
Z'EV  z=-(Es+E3)   Options Sum Things  Cold Spring  2009  In the fall of 2005 Z'EV began dipping deep into his archives and selecting recordings to produce a project reflecting his take on the 'dark ambience' genre.
Charlemagne Palestine & Z’EV  Duo C/Z #1   Options Rubhitbangklanghear Rubhitbangklangear  Sub Rosa  2013  The result of three days spent in June 2010 in their only recorded meeting. Palestine on the outsized, baton-operated bells of a carillon and Z’EV on an assortment of monumental drums

Confusing the Irish for being British, that'll make you popular in Kilkenny!
Avatar 3:12pm david w:

Yeah, I know. That was a bad one. And I knew better!
Avatar 3:12pm northguineahills:

I have to admit, I've only read about Jennifer Walshe, never heard her before.
Avatar 3:14pm david w:

As you can hear, she is lightening fast and rich with ideas.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm Webhamster Henry:

Z'ev was a good friend of my friend Nik Williams.
Avatar 3:15pm david w:

@James... I personally painted part of that floor. That was a fabulous room (RIP).
Avatar 3:18pm david w:

Henry, I'll get into this later, but friends are mounting, free to the public, a Z'EV memorial show this Saturday at The Kitchen.
Avatar 3:19pm northguineahills:

She reminds me of Shelley....
Avatar 3:22pm david w:

And Shelley loves her. There is a very high level of imagination and spontaneity they share.
