I was hoping to hear "Pet Sounds" (the instrumental) by the Beach Boys, which has a tiny reference to Peter Gunn at the beginning.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44am TheLoneliestMonk:

@joeMc - what was it ken tortured us with that time, was it journey or 'you light up my life'?
Avatar 9:47am Joe McG:

@LoneliestMonk: "Bohemian Rhapsody." He's also been known to tackle "Jesus Christ Superstar" and "Tico Tico."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48am TheLoneliestMonk:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49am pantz:

@TheLoneliest You ain't heard JCS until you've heard it sung by the Muppets.
Avatar 9:52am JakeGould:

I listened to all of the versions of “Heard it Through the Grapevine” I have. You know, in that context the Creedence Clearwater Revival really stinks.

Also, I hate “Jesus Christ Superstar” in all forms.
Avatar 9:53am fred:

The cherry on top of the Bohemian Rhapsody cake was when Duane played yet another version on his show. Or maybe it was the Monty Python mint
Avatar 9:54am JakeGould:

But I loooove, “Peter Gunn Locomotion” by the Delmonas. But no “Art of Noise?”

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:56am steveo:

Woah it looks like I missed something! (Hooray, archives!) (No B52's / Planet Claire?)
Avatar 9:56am JakeGould:

@fred: I think Ken was obsessed with the instrumental version of “Boogie in Your Butt” that DJ Female Convict Scorpion did and was dumping on the Eddie Murphy version and Duane’s first track of his show right after that? The original, full “Boogie in Your Butt.” Now that is quality radio! I also like the Eddie Murphy version a lot.
Avatar 9:57am Marc Francis:

The live version of 3 steps is better IMO
Avatar 11:22am northguineahills:

Where's Wild Neil?, he's been asking for Southern Rock for ages!
Avatar 11:23am northguineahills:

@Tommy in Neversink: I have that on vinyl.
Avatar 11:23am northguineahills:

(I bought in NYC after I moved up there)

Coward of the County?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26am BronwynB:

christ, that sounded like it was from shanda sharer: the musical or something
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26am BronwynB:

i love this song so much
  11:29am Bob:

Curse of Millhaven, Nick Cave?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30am Rich in NC:

Nice set Joe!
Avatar 11:34am herb.nyc:

as SHANDA was mentioned, i saw musical last night, "a letter to harvey milk". it's jew gay oriented as that's what harvey was. great play! anyway, one lyric had SHANDA rhyme with RWANDA. nice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34am BronwynB:

i used to think the weird al song "albuquerque" was a dead milkmen ripoff but now i see from whence it came
  11:34am Listener Alexandra:

Aww...thanks for the San Diego love, Joe :-)
Avatar 11:35am V Priceless:

no goofy grape?
  11:35am melinda:

@herb that sounds like a good play.
Avatar 11:36am Joe McG:

@Alex: San Diego's finest!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am Colleen:

Yeah Yeah YEAH!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am Colleen:

Yeah Yeah YEAH!!!
Avatar 11:37am Lixiviated Life:

This is truly some dark sh*t my friend.
(Remind me to change the oil in my Pinto my own self).
  11:37am Listener Alexandra:

We don't have that many, Joe...but next time, check out Gregory Page--he was once a Rugburn, but took much more of a John Prine approach. If you can find a record of his called 'The Romantic Adventures of Harry", consider it highly recommended :-)
  11:39am melinda:

Re: shanda, a friend of my family's who was raised Pentecostal was asked if any particular real words were uttered when people spoke in tongues, and he said "shanda" often comes up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39am BronwynB:

if u dont got mojo nixon then your radio station could use some fixiiiiiiin
Avatar 11:39am Joe McG:

@Lixiviated Life: True, not all stories are nice! @Alex: Thanks for the recommendation!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am BronwynB:

all of this is my way of saying that the dead milkmen would be a great choice for story corner
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am pantz:

This show don't need no fixin', you got some Mojo Nixon!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am Wendy del Formaggio:

Oh my goodness! I haven't heard this song in a bazillion years. I forgot how much I missed it! Mojo Nixon!
  11:40am rw:

Morning! I lost track somewhere along the line during the Rugburns track. Could someone please summarize?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41am The Oscar:

One of my great regrets in life is that, in my years working at the record store, nobody ever asked for Mojo Nixon, so that I could tell them "Nah, he don't work here!"
  11:41am Listener Alexandra:

No worries, Joe--and "Cyrus" (from the same record) is a great story song :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41am Wendy del Formaggio:

I'm with Bronwyn B. Dead Milkmen do tell a good story.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42am Ken From Hyde Park:

Marathon premium idea: A bunch of story corner songs that are all about a guy named Joe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42am Wendy del Formaggio:

Mo' Joe.
  11:43am Santos L Halper:

Thanks for the Mojo, Joe! These guys sure were fun to see back then
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45am The Oscar:

My introduction to Mojo Nixon was his role as Toad in the Super Mario Brothers movie.
Avatar 11:46am herb.nyc:

(i shoulda said that "a letter to harvey milk" was absolutely terrific. it first ran in 2012. lady in front of me started to tear up near the end, which got me emotional. so, i concentrated on the annoying man next to me who nervously shook his leg during the show. hate that. oh, play is based on a short story of the same name.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46am Lewis:

saw mojo nixon and skid roper kitty corner from the Mobil (happy motoring') just of the NC State campus and across the street from Ferguson's hardware whose parking lot I monitored from my porch.

I was a really good show - rock on Chicago!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46am Ken From Hyde Park:

At this moment, CNN is showing a fountain of gushing lava from Hawaii. sglb1mfg.sg.ibm.com...
  11:46am bbob:

man, do I miss these two.....
Avatar 11:47am herb.nyc:

i saw mojo and skid at irving plaza about 1986. mojo is a crazy showman. between bands, i saw skid so i chatted with him. he gave me his biz card (i hope i still have).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48am Ken From Hyde Park:

Zats, that was a nonsense link: Here is CNN. www.cnn.com...
Avatar 11:49am northguineahills:

Thanks Joe! (got to leave the boards_

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54am SSS:

Spock should have said "yeah, thats what you are Bones..."
Avatar 11:54am Sem:

Been a large morning of good clean fun, Joe. Nonetheless, see you and all next time.

Watch for the Shropshire edition of Burning Man, a smoking good time.
Avatar 11:55am Joe McG:

Thanks for listening, Sem and everyone for listening today. See you next Monday: Our turn for a National Holiday. Hope some of you will join me, anyway! Have a great week....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56am Lewis:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57am Greg from ZONE 5:

Thanks, Joe! Great stuff today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58am Ken From Hyde Park:

Thanks, Joe. Make sure you copyright "Story Corner" so DJs on another station don't steal your idea.
  11:58am Davee:

Great show Joe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59am Tommy in Neversink:

You missed Big Joe and Phantom 309
