A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Considering that moog fest is going on this week that would be a good follow up. www.moogfest.com Last year Michael Stipe was one of the headline artists.

That's a neat blog and I am a newly converted (thanks to this show) ardent fan of Suzanne Cipiani. Walter/Wendy Carlos is a long time fav, I used to "check out" that Switched On LP from our library when I was a pup! I had no idea that she was still with us, good to know.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37am Webhamster Henry:

I wonder if you can get the entire audio transcripts from all the moonshots?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37am BronwynB:

hello trouble and everyone :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37am Rich in Washington:

We had that record. My older brother built the huge Saturn V model it came with. He wouldn't let me touch the model, which was unfair. It was pretty cool. You could take apart all the stages and even see the astronauts inside the command module.
  9:38am larry of lackawack:

There is no sound on the moon. Where are you going?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38am Rich in Washington:

I believe so, WH. Remember during the 40th anniversary of Apollo 11, they played all the audio in realtime over the anniversary date, from launch, to landing, to return splashdown.
  9:38am Peter in Sea:

Mikula: Yes, I second that!
Avatar 9:39am Itzall Ablurr:

Dear Webhamster Henry, it seems like we should be able to, I mean our parents paid for it!
  9:39am still b/p:

Everybody pretty chill in the Apollo talk. Nobody freaking out in a moonage workday.
  9:39am mr_mike:

The day they politicized the moon
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40am Rich in Washington:

Itzall: but we got all those technological trickle-downs. Tang, for instance.
Avatar 9:40am TDK60:

Didn't know Branca died. // Never liked the Stars and Stripes flappin' in the wind up there.
Swag For Life Member 9:41am Walt:

Revell was the plastic model company, the "Moonlighter" record was a tie-in for the company's Saturn V rocket model kit.
Avatar 9:42am Itzall Ablurr:

Dear Rich (in Washinton), true dat, all the flavors of the TANG. Not to mention freakin' aluminum foil and awesome plastic assembly kits!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43am Adrian in London:

Just in from lunch: hi Trouble and Troubled minds
Avatar 9:44am Roberto:

The Brandenburgs kick ass. That harpsichord solo in the first movement of the Fifth -- I can imagine the audiences of J.S. Bach's time holding up candles (since lighters hadn't been invented yet).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44am Webhamster Henry:

I don't think I had that model, but I know I made a pencil holder in shop class that looked like the LEM. It was maple, and wore down a lot of lathe chisels.
Avatar 9:44am Itzall Ablurr:

Re; Mercury 13. Those are some badasses. I think I have a major retro-crush now.
Avatar 9:44am Mikula:

Yes--watch Mercury 13!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46am sphere:

The moon program also gave us microprocessor technology.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46am Rich in Washington:

Someone could make nice art/designs in relief if they could gather up enough Pillsbury Space Food Sticks.
Avatar 9:47am SSS:

The space program gave us the WalkMan....
Avatar 9:48am Itzall Ablurr:

Dear sphere, that's a fact and before that the rooms full of IBM computers necessary for a space program paled in comparison to the average "smart phone".
  9:49am queems:

i love this song so much
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49am Rich in Washington:

I forgot about Pillsbury Space Food sticks. God. I grew up right on that peak of space program/Apollo mania. It seems like every cereal, fruit juice, etc, was cashing in by giving away some astronaut related gee-gaw, gimcrack, etc.
Avatar 9:50am Linda Lee:

Trouble!! thanks so much for today's lovely, grey day music.

I recall traveling through miles of orange orchards in the south of Spain during that era. When we made it to the hotel and ordered orange juice, we were served Tang®.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01am melinda:

When my late cat Olive was a kitten her voice was especially high and we would call her Minnie.

ha ha @ brian. I was too busy dancing to notice, but i did have a very strange conversation over there this morning when i mailed some letters.
Avatar 10:19am TDK60:

I recall one of the early Moon astronauts spilled orange juice into his suit, out there, said he'd never drink orange juice again. Mighta been Tang.

Crime is a great vehicle for investigating all of our fears, from the elemental and base fears of violence to subtler fears of being an atomized person awash in an uncaring and indifferent world, caught in the jaws of a mechanistic society. It also is a great way to structure narrative.
