Late night walks through the Ghetto
  12:05am Agent Peter:

This rocks! (Probably not the right word but you know....)
Avatar 12:06am Adamsworth:

it also "trees" and "grasses"
  12:06am MONEYBAG$:

Good stuff on the brokedown podcast JC. So that is what you sound like before midnight

Avatar 12:09am Jeff Conklin:

Morning, all.

Thanks for checking out the podcast. That was fun. I sound like shit on Skype!
  12:14am Kaspar:

What is this blue gatefold you have up on Instagram? Loved the Oregon jamz y’all were playing on the Brokedown Podcast.
Avatar 12:15am Jeff Conklin:

Curious if we have any new listeners tonight who came from the podcast. Reveal yourselves!

That gatefold is the second Chilliwack album...
Avatar 12:17am jaywbabcock:

Popul Vuh at their most magisterial/processional! Thank you. This is what Swans/Gira aims for/achieves sometimes
  12:17am Luisa24:

Hi Jeff! Pretty sounds thus far! Does WFMU have cassette players? Just wondering?
Avatar 12:18am Jeff Conklin:

Yes we have a lovely tape deck in the studio.
  12:20am Agent Peter:

This trees! :-)
Avatar 12:20am Jeff Conklin:

Hey Jay, I've never heard Swans come within 5k light years of Fricke and Co and to be honest I'm never gonna try to find it!
Avatar 12:21am jaywbabcock:

Oh there's plenty of places where Swans achieved this but if you're not interested, you're not interested!
  12:21am Dean:

I'll second that, Jeff. Re: Swans and PV, I mean.
  12:22am Dean:

A generational thing, maybe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25am sberger:

Morning all...Trees are so much greatness that so few know. Shame.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25am chresti:

Sally getting me thinking about going around the roses -
Avatar 12:29am jaywbabcock:

Been listening to PV and Swans for 20+ years and trust me, there are concordances
  12:30am MONEYBAG$:

We had a little string of Flying Saucer Attack related songs going on there
Avatar 12:30am Jeff Conklin:

@Jay: Cool not gonna argue and not saying you're incorrect. I have no interest in ever listening to that band is all.
Avatar 12:34am Adamsworth:

That FSA cover of Sally Free & Easy is great. I remember they had to do the vinyl version in mono because the stereo separation would make the record skip.
  12:35am Dean:

I think Jay has a point. I've listened to PV for more than 40 years -- a generation, give or take, longer than his experience. I'm probably older than you, too, Jeff, which complicates things. But I think for my crowd Swans sounded belated from the get-go, a nod to punk, for instance.
  12:38am Jeff Conklin:

Well at least we’re not talking about 80s Dead. But still.
  12:39am Dean:

Well, now that you mention them...
Avatar 12:43am Adamsworth:

I have been listening to this Louvin Brothers discography cheapo 6 CD set I got for $20 all week. It's so good.
Avatar 12:45am jaywbabcock:

(re Swans. I guess I'm thinking mainly of the "White Light from the Mouth of Infinity" period, if anyone [other than Jeff, haha] is interested....)
  12:46am Kaspar:

Please share which Swans albums get to PV levels.
Avatar 12:46am jaywbabcock:

Swans: www.youtube.com...
Avatar 12:47am jaywbabcock:

But PV is THEE BEST and it's always a pleasure to hear them — thank you Mr Conklin!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47am Luisa24:

NRPS !!! Yay!! Also The Dead did play some hot shows in the 80's, at least that is how I remember it
Avatar 12:48am Adamsworth:

This is a great version of this song.
Avatar 12:49am Jeff Conklin:

@Luisa: Maybe youre new here. the 80s is a kind of running joke.
  12:54am MONEYBAG$:

Just reading about that NRPS show...20-30 people in attendance!
Avatar 12:58am Adamsworth:

I just bookmarked that show on the Deadhead Archives app on my phone to listen to later
  1:02am MONEYBAG$:

The Russian Psych Mafia
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03am Luisa24:

Ok, got it :)
  1:05am Agent Peter:

80's requests are the best requests
Avatar 1:06am Adamsworth:

Ah, it was Gnarles Barkley that sampled Trees. I haven't heard it, I looked it up.
Avatar 1:10am Adamsworth:

Jeff, I saw you posted about this MV&EE earlier and I was hoping you'd play it, since I haven't heard it. It really is great!
Avatar 1:10am Jeff Conklin:

I played this jam last year but fuck it
  1:11am rw:

Hello! Why did I open this page? Now I want to weigh in on the Swans thing. Geeking out about music is so much more fun than working. But... work is more important right now so I'll leave it at that and get back to it. Hello everyone! Enjoying the show!
Avatar 1:27am the Canterbury wood-elf:

oooh, MOTM, nice!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28am Luisa24:

  1:28am Agent Peter:

This song should be played every week.
  1:40am Hippie Jesus:

@jeff I’m listening live and because of this message board, I will be downloading the brokedown pod and giving it a listen.
Avatar 1:41am Jeff Conklin:

@hippie: Cool. hope you dig it
  1:44am ashlyn:

  1:50am Hippie Jesus:

Speaking of pods......anyone else listening to, Cocaine & Rhinestones? The Rusty & Doug Kershaw episode and the stories about Neil Young’s - On The Beach recording sessions is worth the listen: https://cocaineandrhinestones.com/rusty-doug-kershaw-cajun-way
  1:52am J:

I thought this one sounded familiar. One of my fave shows
  1:55am dubkitty:

@jeff: so, where might one find a CD copy of the MV & EE you played earlier? i've been Googling, but to little effect. always nice to hear one of the Ark shows too!
Avatar 1:58am Jeff Conklin:

@dubkitty: Not available on CD. I've urged Matt to put it on Bandcamp. With his blessing maybe I can upload it...
  2:00am dubkitty:

that would be lovely. could you recommend something of his/theirs that is CD-available?
Avatar 2:03am Adamsworth:

It's on soulseek, which I say because it's not on discogs
Avatar 2:07am Adamsworth:

I'd rather pay the band for it than either though, really.
Avatar 2:07am Jeff Conklin:

@Dubkitty: This is a good one from the same era: www.discogs.com...
  2:08am phat:

This Chilliwack is great. Reminds me a bit of Spirit, for some reason.
  2:09am dubkitty:

thanks, folks. so good to find something new :)
Avatar 2:12am Jeff Conklin:

@dbukitty: Theyre like the Dead, once you get hooked there's TONS to explore. And dont forget Wet Tuna ;)
  2:13am Stefan:

Good Morning Jeff & listeners.
Avatar 2:20am Jeff Conklin:

Hey Stefan
  2:26am more wet tuna please:

yes, I would love to hear more wet tuna please. then again, not sure if I mentioned, more wet tuna please. :)
  2:43am MattWuet:

Heard some of that new Bachman on the Frow Show as well. It's sounding excellent!
  2:51am MattWuet:

This Footpaths has a strong whiff of thos ezonked Dredd Foole / MV & EE collabs on Family Vineyard.
Avatar 2:58am Jeff Conklin:

Thanks for listening, everybody. Catch you down the road...
  3:00am MattWuet:

Cheers, Jeff. Thanks, and be well!
  10:03am JD sr:

That might well be my favorite Trad, Gras och Stenar / International Harvester jam, soooo good!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm jmr3:

I love that Sommerlaten jam, too. Sometimes the riff reminds me of the theme of a certain long suite about a mythical railroad terminal that was written a few years later by a couple guys from northern California. Many great versions of that one were played in the 80's, btw.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54pm pinholga:

Listened to this archive on my westward plane ride back from New England. I was at that MV/EE show! It was on the Tufts campus, and me and my then-girlfriend might have been the only non-students there. I remember the Environments jam being really good that night. Now that I know the name it was released under, I definitely need to hunt it down. I actually picked up the CD that Jeff recommended at that show! I agree it's a good toe-dip point.
