A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Loretta Lynn carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Yes! Those loons were terrific yesterday! I love watching and listening to birds!
Avatar 9:58am JakeGould:

When I attempted to rekindle my vinyl appreciation a few years ago, the first few records I got were sound effects and bird call records… But someone in my building has an amped up CB rig (ex-cop) and the interference that comes through the stereo suddenly boomed louder through the needle pickup. Like bird calls and then endless retired cops yammerig about their CB sets. So had to ditch the setup.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58am Ike:

I disagree fundamentally with the basic premise of this song! It's basically Putin's Russia! Paying off the populace to put up with massive graft at the very top! OMG, did this song inspire modern 21st-century kleptocracies?!?! It's all so clear now!

Avatar 10:31am Wild Neil||Peace All:

Thanks IA! I hit the library to try out music. The FMA here is pretty awesome, I think it would be cool to explore. Some DJs do shows entirely out of the FMA, I think I saw that once by a female DJ at FMU, I forget who, it could be Trouble?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31am ifeelfatnsassy:

  10:32am northguineahills:

I actually have that switched on Bacharach on vinyl.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35am Webhamster Henry:

Avatar 10:39am fm Mike:

@ northguineahills, that is awesome.
Avatar 10:39am fm Mike:

So what is up with that "Give The Drummer Radio"? Is that WFMU's other face where it's strictly broadcast on the internet?
Avatar 10:41am Trouble:

merci mon petit maccaroon
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42am crateslinger:

Morning Doves in Brooklyn sound sort of like Loons. Not really but sort of. Makes me think of Maine. You have to have a bird feeder to get close enough to hear them.
Avatar 10:43am βrian:

Macron said that in English, which makes sense. He was probably thinking along the lines of "delightful" or "sweet" which can be expressed as "délicieuse."
Avatar 10:43am Trouble:

WFMu has several streams that are run online. Drummer some Doug is no longer in NYC area so he upped an internet version of WFMU as a stream, more bang for your buck

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04am steveo:

Duende or tener duende ("having duende") loosely means having soul, a heightened state of emotion, expression and authenticity, often connected with flamenco. The artistic and especially musical term was derived from the duende, an elf or goblin-like magic creature in Spanish mythology.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04am steveo:

El duende is the spirit of evocation. It comes from inside as a physical/emotional response to art. It is what gives you chills, makes you smile or cry as a bodily reaction to an artistic performance that is particularly expressive. Folk music in general, especially flamenco, tends to embody an authenticity that comes from a people whose culture is enriched by diaspora and hardship; vox populi, the human condition of joys and sorrows. Drawing on popular usage and Spanish folklore, Federico García Lorca first developed the aesthetics of Duende in a lecture he gave in Buenos Aires in 1933, "Juego y teoria del duende" ("Play and Theory of the Duende").

Says the 'pedia: The English term "godwit" was first recorded in about 1416–7 and is believed to imitate the bird's call.

It's worth checking out Rupert Sheldrake's research on homing pigeon navigation. It seems than none of the speculative materialist/mechanistic explanations suffice to explain how they do it. We have NO idea, basically, and because this is a major embarrassment to scientific materialism, it hardly gets any airtime.

Birdie, eagle, albatross. It's like the golf game is mocking us ornithologic folks.

Re navigation, this popped up on in the news not too long ago:
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55am melinda:

@Canterbury they also don't know why pigeons do their signature neck movement when they walk. I was listening to an NPR show about pigeons and was disappointed when someone called in with a question about this and the experts had no answer.
