Ridgewood Radio features concert recordings by adventurous bands and experimental musicians and restored archival tapes from private and institutional collections captured at venues large and small across the five boroughs of New York. It is produced by David Weinstein and Outpost Artists Resources operating out of the Ridgewood section of Queens, NY, where you'll find more yellow bricks than on the road to Oz and the cemetery of your choice is never more than a few blocks from home.

Just strolled past the Berkeley Music Dep't building, where I think I might have heard Melford playing from an upstairs window.

Thanks, Sem, same to you! Enjoy!

@Dean, well wow. Myra emailed me a nice note about this show, but practice comes first!

I met her at Vision Festival c.2000, where she was sitting on the sidelines with Marty Ehrlich. Four years later, she landed at Cal.

Myra Melford, Joseph Jarman, cool! (not familiar with Mikele Navazio). Like Melford's recordings. Nice set!

Saw Roscoe Mitchell a few months ago, man, he still can BLOW!
  3:26pm
Dean:

Was hoping to hear Jaap Blonk, whom a colleague has tried over the years to bring to these parts. Finally, he's here for OM and other events, including a lecture (last week?) at CNMAT. But it looks like I'll miss it. Would love to hear Sten Sandell, too, and of course Amirkhanian. Bah!

Bah is right!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm

Gotta support Other Minds. Great lineup.
  3:27pm
Dean:

Meanwhile, Blonk will be in Santa Cruz, as will Ken Vandermark.
  3:31pm
Dean:

Oops, maybe Blonk was at Kuumbwa last month, or maybe he cancelled the appearance. Not sure when Vandermark appears, but Tim Berne and Thumbscrew appear in June (different dates).
  3:33pm
Dean:

Never mind that Mdou Moctar will soon play the Palms Playhouse in Winters, CA. I'm batting 1.000. I'll miss them all!

Darius Jones is a great guy (in my limited experience) and a great player. (I kinda wish he'd stayed with his basic instrumental trio and quartet stuff, though...)

@Jeff... I also have concerns about Darius and recent ambitious projects, but this is someone I wish only good things for.

Mara Rosenbloom piece is gorgeous.

Mmmm, future fresh raspberries. A grammar-school friend had such a bush at his house, and it was tremendously productive. IIRC there's a wild one in a sort of lowland stretch behind my house, too, but the ground it grows in is dubious of purity.
Avatar 4:11pm
geezerette:

David, would Ruth want to post a painting or two?
Love to see them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm
david w:

Jeez geez, maybe we can put one on the Outpost Instagram. I don't think she'd mind. and Rosenbloom yes, nice writing, great band.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm
coelacanth∅:

David@4.03 and -back in the day (you know..that day...) when there was time and freedom to spend evenings and sometimes afternoons sitting around smoking herbs with friends, the usual aural influence during thick-air passages was pink floyd and jefferson airplane and yes and Brian Eno and Jimi...(etc)...but if we were at my house sometimes i'd put on the world is a ghetto album and everyone'd be like "whoaaa"...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm

It's grey and muggy in L.A. today, altering usual sound quality perfectly for this wonderful performance. Very relaxed & dreamy.

Avatar 4:33pm

Steveo, before the galleries were studios. Venice has always had rough edges, space bought cheaply in 60s worth a mint now...usual progression.

God, I loved that piece!

sounds about right -- I wish I'd had more time to hang out, but the meter was running ;)

I'm trying to untangle this... Ruth just joined a gym called World Gym that apparently started in Venice, which has nothing to do with steveo's trip or geez's history. But what goofy coincidences!
