Ridgewood Radio features concert recordings by adventurous bands and experimental musicians and restored archival tapes from private and institutional collections captured at venues large and small across the five boroughs of New York. It is produced by David Weinstein and Outpost Artists Resources operating out of the Ridgewood section of Queens, NY, where you'll find more yellow bricks than on the road to Oz and the cemetery of your choice is never more than a few blocks from home.

Good afternoon David, Ruth and Ridgewood people

Hi-Freat Cecil Taylor to open!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm doctorjazz:

(Great, that is, bad typo)
Avatar 3:04pm david w:

Welcome Fred, and jazz! curious your take on today...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm listener james from westwood:

Afternoon, David, Ruth, and all!
Avatar 3:04pm david w:

James, a pleasure to have you along.
Avatar 3:05pm northguineahills:

Exactly as I remember 2008 in NYC!
  3:05pm Sem near Oxford UK:

Good evening, David, Ruth, all.
  3:11pm Dean:

Just strolled past the Berkeley Music Dep't building, where I think I might have heard Melford playing from an upstairs window.
Avatar 3:11pm david w:

Thanks, Sem, same to you! Enjoy!
Avatar 3:12pm david w:

@Dean, well wow. Myra emailed me a nice note about this show, but practice comes first!
  3:14pm Dean:

I met her at Vision Festival c.2000, where she was sitting on the sidelines with Marty Ehrlich. Four years later, she landed at Cal.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm steveo:

greetings, all!
Avatar 3:19pm david w:

steveo! always glad to have your ears.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm doctorjazz:

Myra Melford, Joseph Jarman, cool! (not familiar with Mikele Navazio). Like Melford's recordings. Nice set!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm steveo:

i'm glad to have them, too -- and always glad to have ridgewood radio in them

Catching any of this year's Other Minds festival, Dean?
Avatar 3:24pm david w:

Honored, sir Uncle.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm doctorjazz:

Saw Roscoe Mitchell a few months ago, man, he still can BLOW!
  3:26pm Dean:

Was hoping to hear Jaap Blonk, whom a colleague has tried over the years to bring to these parts. Finally, he's here for OM and other events, including a lecture (last week?) at CNMAT. But it looks like I'll miss it. Would love to hear Sten Sandell, too, and of course Amirkhanian. Bah!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm Uncle Michael:

Bah is right!
Avatar 3:27pm david w:

Gotta support Other Minds. Great lineup.
  3:27pm Dean:

Meanwhile, Blonk will be in Santa Cruz, as will Ken Vandermark.
  3:31pm Dean:

Oops, maybe Blonk was at Kuumbwa last month, or maybe he cancelled the appearance. Not sure when Vandermark appears, but Tim Berne and Thumbscrew appear in June (different dates).
  3:33pm Dean:

Never mind that Mdou Moctar will soon play the Palms Playhouse in Winters, CA. I'm batting 1.000. I'll miss them all!
Avatar 3:35pm coelacanth∅:

greetings David and Ridgies
Avatar 3:36pm david w:

Ridgewood to coel, greetings back!
Avatar 3:36pm coelacanth∅:

- good pussywillow-cutting music, apparently
Avatar 3:39pm david w:

Ruth is planting raspberries, between bouts with her newest painting of tangled cords.
Avatar 3:49pm fred:

David, I think you played tangled chords at times yourself
Avatar 3:50pm david w:

Ah, yes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm Jeff Golick:

This is my kind of show.
Avatar 3:54pm coelacanth∅:

ahh, raspberries. very rewarding plant. easy to grow AND -you get raspberries!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm Jeff Golick:

Darius Jones is a great guy (in my limited experience) and a great player. (I kinda wish he'd stayed with his basic instrumental trio and quartet stuff, though...)
Avatar 3:58pm david w:

Yes, Jeff. This should be your show! And Scraps, heyyyyy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm doctorjazz:

Another great set, this Mara Rosenbloom, you're in my neck of the woods as well.
Avatar 4:00pm coelacanth∅:

i like the bedloop, by the way. a timeless track from a fairly flawless album.
Avatar 4:03pm david w:

Thanks, coel. I thought it was a good brain cleaner between sets. And delightful.
Avatar 4:07pm david w:

@Jeff... I also have concerns about Darius and recent ambitious projects, but this is someone I wish only good things for.
Avatar 4:07pm geezerette:

Hello,David,Ruth & all.
Mara Rosenbloom piece is gorgeous.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm listener james from westwood:

Mmmm, future fresh raspberries. A grammar-school friend had such a bush at his house, and it was tremendously productive. IIRC there's a wild one in a sort of lowland stretch behind my house, too, but the ground it grows in is dubious of purity.
Avatar 4:11pm geezerette:

David, would Ruth want to post a painting or two?
Love to see them.
Avatar 4:14pm david w:

Jeez geez, maybe we can put one on the Outpost Instagram. I don't think she'd mind. and Rosenbloom yes, nice writing, great band.
Avatar 4:15pm coelacanth∅:

David@4.03 and -back in the day (you know..that day...) when there was time and freedom to spend evenings and sometimes afternoons sitting around smoking herbs with friends, the usual aural influence during thick-air passages was pink floyd and jefferson airplane and yes and Brian Eno and Jimi...(etc)...but if we were at my house sometimes i'd put on the world is a ghetto album and everyone'd be like "whoaaa"...
Avatar 4:15pm coelacanth∅:

(esp that track)
Avatar 4:17pm coelacanth∅:

and re:geez@4.11 i was thinking that too. (i don't know how to use instagram though & if i have to make an account i'm not doing it)
Avatar 4:19pm geezerette:

Zuckerberg owns instagram too,Coel.
Avatar 4:19pm david w:

Nice story. And don't fret the Instagram thing. Let's try something else.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm doctorjazz:

Ahh, lovely...
Avatar 4:22pm coelacanth∅:

g, i did not know! i have a facadebook account but haven't posted anything in just over 4 (?) years and use false info regarding most everything. i do use it to keep on top of certain things. (like "Ludwig Day", coming up)
Avatar 4:23pm northguineahills:

Mara Rosenbloom, new to me!
Avatar 4:24pm geezerette:

It's grey and muggy in L.A. today, altering usual sound quality perfectly for this wonderful performance. Very relaxed & dreamy.
Avatar 4:25pm david w:

Thanks, NGH! And this Rosenbloom is old (for her) and clearly a really good band leader too.
Avatar 4:25pm geezerette:

...Both the sky and I...
Avatar 4:26pm coelacanth∅:

g, does that mean you're itching to mug somebody?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm steveo:

@geezerette, by the way, I didn't see any galleries in Venice, just sand :)
Avatar 4:28pm geezerette:

haha! Nope, it's mugging me!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm listener james from westwood:

Rising power in this piece.
Avatar 4:31pm david w:

There's no crying in jazz!
Avatar 4:33pm geezerette:

Steveo, before the galleries were studios. Venice has always had rough edges, space bought cheaply in 60s worth a mint now...usual progression.

God, I loved that piece!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm steveo:

sounds about right -- I wish I'd had more time to hang out, but the meter was running ;)
  4:39pm Gary via app:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm Jeff Golick:

Did you mention that Mark and Sylvie are married? Not a crucial detail, but sort of an interesting backdrop...
Avatar 4:40pm geezerette:

Steveo, did you check out the boardwalk gauntlet? Mad!,not angry.
Back to work made more pleasant. Thanks for elegance,David!

Later, buddies!
Avatar 4:41pm david w:

I'm trying to untangle this... Ruth just joined a gym called World Gym that apparently started in Venice, which has nothing to do with steveo's trip or geez's history. But what goofy coincidences!
Avatar 4:42pm david w:

Gary howdy. Welcome.
Avatar 4:45pm northguineahills:

I believe I saw Courvoisier & Feldman around this time....
Avatar 4:45pm david w:

@Jeff, you yente.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm steveo:

@geezerette, we biked from the Santa Monica pier and back. is the gauntlet the people selling stuff and playing music?

That's funny about World Gym.

I don't know if this is jazz, but I like more than the way I like jazz
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm Jeff Golick:

Oh, bubbeluh...
Avatar 4:57pm david w:

Just to make someone happy, segue into War here and off... stay tuned for Continental Subway special edition!
Avatar 5:00pm fred:

Thanks David, as always
Avatar 5:03pm david w:

Thanks everybody!
Avatar 5:27pm coelacanth∅:

Thanks (belated) david
