[per NGH @3:41] - speaking of time-zones, good to be back where I get my Failure during daylight hours...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm ⓘⓚⓔ:

Lionizing the lost lamented old days of NYC is, in and of itself, getting really old. Yes, fellow commenters, I know, much of Manhattan has been taken over by chain stores. I'm over it. Many parts of Queens & southern Brooklyn are still incredibly distinctive and as Fabio points out every week, you can still see films you won't see anywhere else in the U.S. And the museums!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm Rob (Jerzcity):

Fabio, what did the poster look like?
Avatar 4:21pm TDK60:

Wicker Man did scare me.
  4:22pm Mary Wing:

I enjoyed The Limey! Would love to see that again.
Avatar 4:23pm Chris from DC:

Vertigo is so good in a theater.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm The Oscar:

Popping my head up to say that the Wicker Man is a previously unknown cut that was discovered a few years back in the Harvard Film Archive. It includes a bunch of scenes that were previously only available in super rough tape transfers (including Christopher Lee's love song to copulating snails).
Avatar 4:23pm TDK60:

Vertigo, eerie soundtrack for sure, never saw it in a theater, eating popcorn in the dark.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm Stevel:

Yes, to The Limey. Some great stuff.
Avatar 4:23pm DonJuanTijuana:

Fabio..give us some of that Blue Cheer!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm Parq:

There's a funny story about Terrence Stamp on the DVD for "Priscilla". Seems the director took the three principals out for a night on the town in full Aussie drag to see how it worked. Stamp went into the bar, forgot how he was dressed, went immediately into rooster mode and couldn't understand why the women he hit on were looking at him with such baffled expressions.
  4:26pm Mary Wing:

Stevel - my brother and I tend to add the line "YOU TELL THEM I'M FUCKING COMING" (from The Limey) to our emails to each other, heh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm Parq:

I tried to stop into Don Quixote for a drink last summer and it sure looked closed to me, so I never tried to go back. Sorry now to see that I had another chance and didn't know it.
Avatar 4:28pm Fabio:

@Rob (Jerzcity): www.google.com...
  4:28pm Gilly:

@ike at what cost though? Seriously, there's no "there" there; at least nothing worth paying out the nose in rent for. That city is dead. Has been for years
Avatar 4:30pm northguineahills:

@ike: Allow me to have my sour grapes!

@The Oscar: A few years back I saw that print (I want to say Film Anthology Archives, but I may be wrong).
  4:30pm Gilly:

Now, we in Los Angeles are dealing with all the expat New Yorkers moving here and turning out city into the same. I've never loved NYC, but I'm starting to think it's a gentrification virus now, not a city
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm ⓘⓚⓔ:

@Gilly, you just said, "I've never loved NYC" -- so WTF are you moaning about? Zzzzzzz, bored now.
Avatar 4:32pm northguineahills:

Gentrification is hitting here in Gainesville, albeit in a smaller, slower, more tolerable scale. But some old haunts are gone for good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm Parq:

New York has been declared dead by people from other cities who hate it, many, many times, since the 70s and probably even earlier.
Avatar 4:35pm βrian:

Especially in the 70s, I think. It was thought of as another country, almost.
  4:35pm GalcticBootyCall:

Diamanda Galas in NYC tomorrow, folks- just putting it out there- fit those who dare
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm ⓘⓘⓘⓘⓘⓚⓔ:

@Parq says it better and more succinctly than I could. Thanks!
Avatar 4:36pm northguineahills:

To my folks, it was another country, in the 17 years there, my parents never visited the great liberal gomorrah.
Avatar 4:36pm TDK60:

NYC is dead, but here we are among the ruins.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm Parq:

Still is. And despite the Giuliani-ites, most of us like it that way. David Sedaris once proposed that NYC's official motto should be a Latin translation of "We don't like you, either."
  4:37pm Mary Wing:

Heh heh, Parq. That Sedaris, what a chucklehead.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm Rob (Jerzcity):

would love to see the moonlight this electric loon is serenading
  4:41pm Billy boogieboard:

Fabio smokes left headed cigs on Thursdays
  4:41pm Gilly:

@ike I said that I never loved the place in the first place BUT I'm actually starting to think of it as the plague rather than a city. One that is affecting MY city. That's what I'm moaning about. Curious: do your parents pay your rent?
  4:43pm Gilly:

Btw how's the weather right now LOL
Avatar 4:43pm geezerette:

"Gentrification" ,the deadly sameness,is global. There's so much to say about it that I'll refrain except to say that the ugly ghost of Ayn Rand looms over the planet like intellectual smog. (I will now duck as bricks are thrown my way...no personal offense meant to anyone here, this is a splendid assemblage.)
  4:44pm Gilly:

@parq correction: people have been declaring NYC as a shithole since the 70s. It's only since Giuliani and maybe even 9/11 that it's been consistently declared as "Dead".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44pm Michael 98145:

RIP, Stéphane Audran ...
  4:44pm brainiac:

I read Ayn Rand while living in NYC. What a waste of time.
Avatar 4:44pm northguineahills:

@Gilly: I love LA, but I prefer the weather in NYC to LA. The weather in LA is boring. I like a change in in seasons. I love winter. Of course, I'm stuck in FL, where the weather is even worse then LA, so, you got me there.
  4:45pm Gilly:

Gentrification is, indeed, global. Methinks it originates in NY though. Or Dubai. Same shit at this point
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm Bas NL:

Fabio! What great tracks! A super set is growing here.
Avatar 4:45pm dale:

hi kids. why do people think they 'own' a town or city? we're just microbes inhabiting a host that gets older, fatter, thinner, richer, poorer - it's inevitable that we get sneezed out to infect something new.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm ⓘⓘⓘⓚⓔ:

WFMU still exists (in Jersey City of course, not Manhattan) so that's what's important as far as I'm concerned. And some of the most interesting immigrant neighborhoods in the world are in places like Bensonhurst, Sunset Park, Woodside, Elmhurst, Flushing... yeah so the old East Village is gone, but I mean, what can you do? And no, I'm middle-aged and pay my own damn rent, in Sunset Park. Also @Dale makes good points.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm Michael 98145:

@gz'ette, Ayn Rand and Wall Street have a lot, a -lot- to answer for.
  4:47pm Gilly:

Jersey City isn't NYC. Not even the same state. Different universe completely
  4:47pm Gilly:

Avatar 4:47pm northguineahills:

Michael Garofalo, I used to play w/ him!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm Michael 98145:

this is nice
  4:48pm Gilly:

Apologies. You're emoji-ish handle and "bored now zzzzz" betrays your age by a few decades
Avatar 4:48pm geezerette:

NGH, we have seasons here. There's fire season, flood season, mudslide season, and awards season.
Avatar 4:48pm northguineahills:

But geezerette, I had my bricks ready! *sulks*
Avatar 4:50pm northguineahills:

I know, I've spent time in SoCal. but only a week at a time. FL weather is so much worse as it's more humid (I don't mind dry heat). At least my garden is thriving (I wouldn't even had planted before May in NYC).
  4:51pm Mark R:

For various reasons, I've missed your show for the past several weeks, and I'd forgotten how totally fucking cool it is!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm ɨkɛ:

You must have meant "belie", not "betray."
  4:51pm Gilly:

@parkguineawhateveritis agree on that. The weather here is annoyingly consistently good most of the year and it does get old. I'll still take it over nor'easters kicking off Spring tho
Avatar 4:51pm geezerette:

Fabio, I love the meditative dirges you play. Not being sarcastic, really do love them.

NGH, ha! sorry!
Avatar 4:52pm TDK60:

Ayn Rand? Nah. Give me Eugene Debs or Kropotkin.
  4:52pm Gilly:

@įkē my mistake, professor
Avatar 4:53pm geezerette:

I like Debs. :)
