Good Afternoon, Mary Wing [*ding*] and others.

Hi Mary!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03pm Dave in Vermont:

hey, kids

Ho-ho-hola Brian, Bob, and Dave!

Hello, tolerable peoples!

I've got this ringing in my ears...

Hello, Mary, the 100% Whatever clan, nosey parkers, aural voyeurs, the poor, the downtrodden, and all.
Avatar 12:06pm Mary Wing:

Hi Yvang and Sem, welcome to Wednesday whatever!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm Webhamster Henry:

We are the 100%
Avatar 12:07pm βrian:

What? Parker Posey?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I'll listen to whatever.
Avatar 12:09pm Mary Wing:

Howdy Henry! Is it warm up where you are today?
Avatar 12:12pm northguineahills:

This Brian Reitzell reminds me of Seefeel.
Avatar 12:14pm Mary Wing:

Hey there Ken and NGH! Everybody's early today!
Avatar 12:19pm βrian:

Oh no, it's happening again! Whenever I tune in to Whatever, I start to get hungry.
Avatar 12:20pm northguineahills:

Smalltown Supersound, my favorite Norwegian record label Heia Norge!
Avatar 12:20pm northguineahills:

I made a shit ton of taquitos this weekend, so, I guess it will be taquitos con huevos yet again, the horror!
Avatar 12:22pm βrian:

On the topic of food, I have a friend who just got back from a tour of Cuba. They had no habaneros. None to be found. How can that be?
Avatar 12:25pm northguineahills:

Well, the habanero, was named for havana, but only got cultivated in Mexico, and then the Caribbean. I believe it was more of naming it after what everyone thought Cuba was like, rather then being an indigenous culinary crop.
Avatar 12:27pm βrian:

I wonder if Scotch Bonnets are hard to find in Scotland ...
Avatar 12:27pm Mary Wing:

Avatar 12:28pm βrian:

She also mentioned that they considered black pepper too spicy to be offered at table.
Avatar 12:29pm northguineahills:

Well, a Scots milliner might have a Scotch Bonnet. (the Scotch Bonnet pepper is derived from the habanero).
Avatar 12:30pm βrian:

I'm more of a Serrano guy, anyway.
Avatar 12:32pm northguineahills:

I just planted serranos, habaneros, y jalapenos (and other herbs and vegetables).
Avatar 12:36pm βrian:

Man, I'm really tengoing hambre. Dear me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm Listener Bob in PGH:

NGH, what planting zone are you in?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm Listener Bob in PGH:

Me, I'm in 6b so I won't even be planting seeds under lights for another 3 weeks. Then if all goes well will be setting seedlings outdoors in mid-May.
Avatar 12:43pm βrian:

We're 5a. I usually start tomatoes around St Patrick's day.
Avatar 12:44pm northguineahills:

@Listener Bob in PGH: 1, I believe (the furthest south one). It's already 84F/30C here. Although we had a freeze 2.5 weeks ago (I'm in Gainesville, FL).
Avatar 12:45pm northguineahills:

In NYC I wouldn't even plant seeds indoors until mid-April, and put them outside in May.
Avatar 12:45pm βrian:

Damn, Satan makes me think of seitan. Or Vietnamese mì căng in a sweet spicy marinade. Mmmm.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm Listener Bob in PGH:

βrian: Hail Seitan!
Avatar 12:46pm βrian:

Your handle could be Gainful_in_Gainesville.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm Ken From Hyde Park:

71F / 22 C and sunny in this locale.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm Listener Bob in PGH:

Ah, Florida! Yes, plant your chile seeds now. I grew up in SoCal and we used to plant tomato seedlings in mid Feb. Growing in several different climates as I've moved over the years has been a fascinating experience.
Avatar 12:53pm northguineahills:

I need to bookmark this archive for all of the links Mary is giving us for when I get home.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm Ken From Hyde Park:

With sea levels rising like they are, Florida will be a good place for growing kelp & seaweed in a few years.
Avatar 12:54pm Mary Wing:

Heh, I always try to provide links; gotta move that merchandise!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm steveo:

howdy hi -- whoa just after I typed that Mad Daddy said "howdy do". true story.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm steveo:

and i'll be damned if that miracle didn't happen on the ichiban stream :)
Avatar 1:00pm Mary Wing:

Hi steveo! The miracle of the streams!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm steveo:

  1:02pm rw:

I'm so confused. Nothing to do with any of you. Just confused. Checking in to say hello before heading off to do more of whatever it is I do. Have a good one everybody and thank you Mary! I'll be listening from the road...
Avatar 1:04pm βrian:

Not for the Newfies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm steveo:

time keeps on slippin slippin slippin...
Avatar 1:10pm βrian:

I love not having neighbors in the same building any more. Space to breathe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm Dave in Vermont:

it's nice how that Low lyric came in, I don't think I've noticed that on your show before
Avatar 1:16pm Mary Wing:

I put that bit in so that's how I know I've talked too long, Dave!
Avatar 1:16pm northguineahills:

Dallas Acid, best prime-time soap evar!
Avatar 1:16pm Mary Wing:

The bed music is 13:09, so that's plenty of time to say what I gotta say, heh.
Avatar 1:18pm northguineahills:

@Ken: I'm 190 ft/58m above sea level, essentially the highest point in peninsular FL, I should be good here. Mmmmm, kelp and seaweed, I need my noms!
Avatar 1:19pm βrian:

Maybe an acid litmus test might work better than background checks.
Avatar 1:20pm Sem:

@ngh: on the road to Flamingo, there a sign for a Pass, 4 feet above seal-level. Had a good chuckle over that.
Avatar 1:22pm Mary Wing:

Hi rw, drive safely!
Avatar 1:32pm northguineahills:

@Sem. The site I'm analyzing/mapping now is about 65 miles/110km from either coast and only 7 ft/1.5m above sea level (just south of Lake Okeechobee). The water flows another 100 miles/165km to the Florida Bay at the southern tip of the peninsula. Creating topographic maps there is very boring.
Avatar 1:32pm northguineahills:

Dug the Richard Dunn
Avatar 1:34pm Sem:

Using any Lidar in that process, ngh?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm Webhamster Henry:

Ken/Hyde Park, have you heard of the Maine Seaweed guy, Larch Hanson? An excellent seaweed source!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm Ike:

I prefer Laotian crispy river weed: somanymiles.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm Ken From Hyde Park:

@WH - Looking at his web site now. It's like kale from the ocean.
Avatar 1:45pm northguineahills:

not my company, but the South Florida Water District does do LIDAR flights. (they're one of our clients).
Avatar 1:46pm northguineahills:

(good thing I rarely need to create topographic maps).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm ɨkɛ:

For a minute there, I thought this was Sade. Heh.
Avatar 1:47pm northguineahills:

You know what, I really appreciate this George Michael, for some odd reason. Only Mary could have pulled it off.
Avatar 1:48pm Mary Wing:

Hi Ike! Funny you should mention Sade...
Avatar 1:52pm northguineahills:

Ike: our preternatural friend....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm Stanley:

Hi Mary. Oooh, I had to chime in to say that Sade is so evocative on time and place for me (London 1984-7)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm doctorjazz:

Hi all, been listening, too busy to post.
Avatar 1:57pm Mary Wing:

Howdy Stanley! Yes, Sade is totally 80s nostalgia for me, heh.
Avatar 1:58pm northguineahills:

The first time I was single (after college), Sade seemed to be the go-to make out music in the late 90s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm Stanley:

You smooth operator, ngh.
Avatar 2:03pm northguineahills:

@Ike, where can I find Kaipen??? To the Asian supermarket! (be back soon!)
Avatar 2:08pm Mary Wing:

Hey there doctorjazz, just in time for 3oak!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm Stanley:

I have to say I'm not familiar with Van Halen's oeuvre
Avatar 2:12pm Sem:

Do we need to put on tighty-tights to listen to this?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm Stanley:

Had mine already on, just in case.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm Listener Bob in PGH:

I'd think overalls and nothin' on underneath would be more appropriate!
Avatar 2:14pm Mary Wing:

And the fringe chaps, of course!
Avatar 2:14pm Sem:

Butt-less chaps might be a fashion faux pas, however. Though courageous.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm Stanley:

Are we in butt-less chaps territory, here?
Avatar 2:15pm Mary Wing:

Chaps are butt-less by nature, no? They go on over your pants.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm steveo:

this is fun! (the set, not the chaps)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm Stanley:

I see we are
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17pm Listener Bob in PGH:

Hippikiller - appropriate garb for this track is satin dress shirt unbottoned halfway down with oversize collar popped over a polyester blazer
Avatar 2:18pm Sem:

So this is sort of Running w/ the Devil Down to Georgia...
Avatar 2:26pm david w:

Hi, Mary! I'm hanging around as usual, doing Whatever.
Avatar 2:27pm Mary Wing:

Hiya David and the Ridgewood crew! Glad ou could hang and swing with us!
Avatar 2:28pm βrian:

Running with the Devil seems like a likely candidate for the scheisse flute treatment.
Avatar 2:28pm northguineahills:

I once made a mash-up of Van Halen's "Running w/ the Devil" w/ Daft Punk.
Avatar 2:29pm Mary Wing:

Heh. Scheisse flute rules!
Avatar 2:30pm βrian:

I had enough garlic at lunch to scare off the Devil.
Avatar 2:33pm βrian:

Oh damn, I've lost count now. There were about 386 pops ...
Avatar 2:34pm Mary Wing:

Shall I play it again, then?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:35pm fred:

Good afternoon Mary and whateverists
Avatar 2:36pm βrian:

fred! We were looking for you on Ken's show to record a Station ID spot.
Avatar 2:36pm Mary Wing:

Salut, fred!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm fred:

I'd rather not inflict my terrible accent on innocent listeners. Pierre's is much better anyway
Avatar 2:43pm βrian:

Well, you could do it in French, I think. I wonder if the FCC specifies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm fred:

I certainly hope that only English counts when it comes to FCC regulations. I wouldn't want them to hunt for foreign language profanities in the station's archives
Avatar 2:47pm βrian:

I can't imagine Spanish isn't standard, too. There are plenty of Spanish-only stations here.
Avatar 2:48pm northguineahills:

There are a handful of spanish profinities that are verboten by the FCC, but let's just say it's less then 7, and you don't have to be creative to actually curse on the air en espanol.
Avatar 2:51pm βrian:

So "putain" is probably fine. But not "un phoque."
Avatar 2:52pm northguineahills:

A new William Onyeabor to me!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm ɨkɛ:

As I understand it, the FCC has occasionally fined for Spanish-language profanities, but never for other languages besides English and Spanish. Yet.
Avatar 2:55pm david w:

Crossing the border into Queens now, where the profanities come in 50 languages! Thanks, Mary!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56pm Stanley:

Great show. Thanks Mary
Avatar 2:57pm Sem:

Doubleplusgood time, Mary. Thanks, and see you and the 100% next time, w/ luck.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57pm steveo:

thanks mary! (where's the Jersey City/Queens border located, exactly, David?)
  2:57pm Dean:

Uckfay ethay CCFay.
Avatar 2:57pm βrian:

But does the FCC specify a language for Station IDs? That's what I was trying to figure out.
Avatar 2:58pm βrian:

eanDa courts disaster.
Avatar 2:59pm Mary Wing:

Thanks for listening today!
  3:00pm Dean:

"Station identification must be transmitted by telephony using the English language or by telegraphy using the international Morse code, and in a form that can be received using equipment appropriate for the modulation type employed, and understood without the use of unscrambling devices, except that, alternatively, station identification may be transmitted digitally, provided that the licensee provides the Commission with information sufficient to decode the digital transmission to ascertain the call sign."
47 C.F.R. § 22.313(c)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:00pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Thanks, Mary. Enjoy the warm sunshine!
  1:02am Malloo:
