Are there still many standard transmissions in the UK? They're almost extinct in the US.

A friend bought a standard Mazda and the staff at the dealership couldn't drive it up from the back lot, She had to do it herself.

Swag For Life Member 10:41am tadpoles:

My Dad's car looked like this:

No turn signals (had to stick your hand out the window) and if you see the hole in the chrome bumper it was for a crank which you could use to get it started if the battery was low. I know I'm dating myself!

"Made in Dagenham" is a good film set in a British Ford factory.

Gridlock *in* a parking lot, or highway gridlock akin to a parking lot? Lots of folks in Berkeley do just stop and wait for a parking lot space to open, rather than sensibly *continue moving* to keep traffic flowing.

Swag For Life Member 11:01am tadpoles:

Yes UKBrian I remember them...little wings that popped up with a light in them. I still call them indicators although here in the US it's "turn signals"!
  11:03am Dean:

At record store, @βrian? Long story short, I'd made a purchase there last Thursday, including an LP I already own. Gave it back--it was only a buck--and hunted for more.

@Brian in UK: Nothing so formal as "correspondent."
  11:04am Stashu:

Shout out from Manhatto!
Avatar 11:04am northguineahills:

@Wild Neil: I just did w/ 1.5k records. God, I hate moving b/c of that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04am Barney Grubbs:

@tadpoles, there seems to be some regional variation in what 'turn signals' get called. I once saw an outraged pedestrian in Worcester, Mass yell at a car that turned too close, "USE YOUR DIRECTIONAL!" (there was probably an epithet in there somewhere, too)
  11:05am Dean:

A long time ago, though, when Poobah in Pasadena was in its early location on Walnut, I was received thus: "Here comes the guy who pays my salary." I was single, without kids. It's a memory I cherish, but I don't expect to relive the experience.

I need a studio, and I will have one built. Without one, I'm short a bedroom.
  11:08am melinda:

@Neil minimalism is overrated
  11:09am Dean:

You are correct, @melinda. But asceticism is the bomb!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09am Barney Grubbs:

@Dean, I spent too many formative hours & dollars flipping through the used crates at Poobah when it was still on Walnut!
  11:11am Dean:

@Barney Grubbs: Many, perhaps, but there's no such thing as too many when it comes to the old Poobah. It was a special place.
