Hey, coel.
Avatar 1:01pm coelacanth∅:

olá Sem!
Avatar 1:02pm Mary Wing:

Hey there coela!
Avatar 1:02pm coelacanth∅:

rw sometimes i think that; and sometimes i think i just usually hear better disco now than what i was subjected to back then.
(i still mostly don't like it though) ...and -Good coffee? (cuz i have coffee but it's not too great)
  1:12pm rw:

Good coffee. I mean, I don't use a gram scale and monitor the temperature to a fraction of a degree or anything, but it's good. Plenty of oranges in the back yard too if anybody wants orange juice.

My theory is that it's partly the patina of nostalgia, partly the fact that it's no longer inescapable and partly that it's more carefully picked.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm steveo:

Avatar 1:26pm Mary Wing:

Howdy Steveo, Stanley, and Ike! Welcome to Wednesday whatever!

I'm still looking songs that spell out words for my marathon premium, gimme all your suggestions!
  1:29pm rw:

Mary, I'm sure you've got that one about S-a-t-u-r-d-a-y, Saturday night, right? I'm really bad at this sort of thing but I'll think...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm Stanley:

What (ever) do you mean, Mary?
Avatar 1:31pm Mary Wing:

My premium this year is named Sugar Spell It Out, Volume 2, and all the songs whill have words spelled out.
Avatar 1:31pm Mary Wing:

I can't remember if I used "Saturday Night" in Volume 1, will have to check, heh.
Avatar 1:32pm david w:

It's Wing-A-Thon! Thanks, Mary for filling in as I get ready for another night of my fest at Roulette. r-e-s-p-e-c-t!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm Jeff Golick:

Avatar 1:41pm Mary Wing:

Heya Jeff! I got two turntables and a microphone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm maestroso:

This King Gizzard is pretty great.
  1:48pm rw:

L is for the way you look tonight. Does that one count?
Avatar 1:49pm βrian:

Well, the squid was fine, and every time an order came up, I'd hear Mary's bell ring. *ding*
  1:49pm rw:

Then there's C.R.E.A.M. but I'm pretty sure that one doesn't count.
Avatar 1:53pm Mary Wing:

Hi Maestroso! Yah, it's a good album all the way through.

Yes, rw, that would count! I'm looking for lesser-known stuff as well.
Avatar 1:53pm Mary Wing:

Oh, wait, which Cream is that?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm steveo:

love the lizard wizard / love zongo : I THINK IT'S WORKING
  1:55pm rw:

Yeah, as I said I'm not so good with this stuff! Starting with the obvious and trying to work my way to the less obvious. I was thinking of Wu Tang Clan but I don't think they spell it out in the lyrics, just the title.
  1:56pm rw:

C.ash R.ules E.verything A.round M.e
Avatar 1:57pm Mary Wing:

They need to spell it out in the song, titles-only don't count.
Avatar 1:58pm coelacanth∅:

rw @1.12 your theory has merit. i'll add to that that i've had several friends in different mostly disco groups, which brings a fondness by association.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm steveo:

oh double mary today? is that what I am to understand? make sure you save some good songs for later :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm steveo:

Avatar 2:11pm coelacanth∅:

one year the woman i was with said she wanted to celebrate vd a few days later because of schedule conflict. that worked out pretty well in regard to 1/2 price fancy chocolate and flowers.
Avatar 2:13pm Sem:

Ever the level-headed romantic, this I admire.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18pm steveo:

Drunken Foreigner = way better than regular Foreigner
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18pm steveo:

i've never had vd, but I doubt I'd celebrate it, coel
Avatar 2:19pm Mary Wing:

Heh, should we hear Foreigner as well?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21pm steveo:

Foreigner depresses me, but it's your show :)
Avatar 2:21pm coelacanth∅:

Sem,yesss. now if only i could've convinced her to celebrate the "new year" a few days into january, when the b&b price wasn't jacked up -and the admission to the clubs in newport...
Avatar 2:22pm coelacanth∅:

yeh foreigner apparently didn't drink enough.
  2:30pm rw:

Okay, here's one Mary, https://genius.com/John-greaves-peter-blegvad-lisa-herman-apricot-lyrics
  2:35pm rw:

Maybe too lesser-known? Let me know if I'm getting annoying.
Avatar 2:37pm coelacanth∅:

oh -"fire in cairo" by the cure. do i get extra points because it spells out 3 words?
Avatar 2:40pm coelacanth∅:

"jocko homo", which spells out "d-e-v-o".
...i suggested at least 2 last week. (3 if you count the shangri-las being in love, l-u-v). my brain will hurt if i think any harder.
-but there is "r-o-c-k in the usa". i don't know who did it.
Avatar 2:41pm coelacanth∅:

and, i believer this single was the first record issued on apple records?
Avatar 2:41pm Mary Wing:

All good suggestions, thanks and keep 'em coming!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50pm Listener Bob in PGH:

What about a song that misspells a word? I'm thinking NY Dolls "Looking For a Kiss".
Avatar 2:50pm coelacanth∅:

"i'm a man" (Bo Diddly; Jimi Hendrix: etc)
Avatar 2:52pm βrian:

"My Way," for sure.
Avatar 2:55pm Mary Wing:

I guess misspelled words are okay...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55pm steveo:

mickey mouse club theme!
Avatar 2:56pm coelacanth∅:

i feel like there are several "new wave" songs that spell out words but i cannot remember them.
Mary you didn't seem to like my suggestions last week (the legitimate ones) but if you change your mind, "divorce song" is Tammy Wynette -not Dolly Parton.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:00pm steveo:

the gilligan song www.youtube.com...
Avatar 3:00pm Sem:

Macca the melody man. Envy that effortless ability.
  3:03pm rw:

G-I-double L-I-G-A-N spells Gilligan! That's my favorite so far.
Avatar 3:05pm Sem:

Too quick off the mark. Paul produced Mary Hopkins' version, but the tune is attributed to Boris Fomin, who died in 1948.

I'll send my fingers into the corner for a time out.
  3:05pm rw:

Nice 3oaK today too! Especially the groovy 5th Dimension version.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm Jeff Golick:

One of my favorite spelling songs is the Elvis C. "I Stand Accused."
Avatar 3:09pm coelacanth∅:

hmm there's an Elvis Presley song too...my brain's beginning to hurt.
Avatar 3:09pm coelacanth∅:

..."american woman" (guess who)
Avatar 3:09pm Mary Wing:

I used Elvis Costello's song on Volume 1, Jeff, but thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm Jeff Golick:

(Figured that might be the case...)
Avatar 3:11pm coelacanth∅:

"safety dance". (i forget who did that)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm Jeff Golick:

Men w/o Hats!
Avatar 3:12pm coelacanth∅:

(men w/out flower pot shaped hats?!)
Avatar 3:14pm Mary Wing:

Oh yes, S-A-F-E-T-Y Dance!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm Jeff Golick:

@coel: Elvis P. spells out M-a-l-e in the pretty terrible "U.S. Male" - was that the one you were thinking of?
Avatar 3:16pm coelacanth∅:

(i'll never think of that Elvis Presley song, probably.)
Avatar 3:17pm coelacanth∅:

haha! that was funny.
...but -maybe? i've heard that; but there might be another one.
  3:18pm rw:

Back to the obvious: R-A-G-G-M-O-P-P.
  3:20pm rw:

I'll stop now. Y'all are much smarter than I am. It's giving me a complex.
Avatar 3:21pm coelacanth∅:

and, yes -do you want the ones so bad nobody wants to hear them?! (of course - subjective. maybe you'd choose the new york dolls song over the shangri-las song they got the line from. individual preference)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm Jeff Golick:

Oh, the Elvis one is probably "T-R-O-U-B-L-E" -- mid-70s rocker, goofy, but not terrible.
Avatar 3:22pm coelacanth∅:

ha rw! it's fun. i keep almost getting one and having to walk outside away from this music so i can think of it.
Avatar 3:23pm Mary Wing:

It all depends on how they sound in a group; I'd think really bad ones wouldn't fit in a segue that easily.
Avatar 3:23pm coelacanth∅:

Jeff! that's it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm Jeff Golick:

Phewf. (This has made me recall that I did a set of spelling songs back a few years ago, pretty pedestrian titles that you've probably already got, @MW: wfmu.org...)
Avatar 3:28pm Mary Wing:

Ooh, thanks, Jeff, I will check those out later!
Avatar 3:30pm coelacanth∅:

one of the songs on that list, "express yourself" reminds me of "b.t. express"...one of the first disco songs i really did like, and it spells out e-x-p-r-e-s-s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm Jeff Golick:

Oh yeah, that Stipe/Neneh Cherry thing...they spell out s-e-x-e-d-u-c-a-t-i-o-n. Can't recall the name...
  3:35pm Dean:

Kind of a pity that Danny Weinkauf's kids' song, Champion of the Spelling Bee, doesn't include any actual spelling.
Avatar 3:36pm coelacanth∅:

or maybe never mind. it's just called "express" - but it may only be the live version i recorded off the "in concert" tv show when i was 10-12 that spells it out.
Avatar 3:36pm Mary Wing:

Heh, hi there Dean!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm doctorjazz:
