Options Brian Turner: Playlist from February 13, 2018 Options

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

PEACE. Hah, first!
Avatar 3:04pm Wild Neil:

Oh yeah, clicky star. This is like Batman by Neil Hefti and Crystal Method with Mötörheæd!
Avatar 3:05pm Nick S.:

Hey, Brian!
Avatar 3:07pm fred:

Good afternoon Brian and all. I bought my tickets for Sonic Protest today. I was afraid I'd miss it this year
Avatar 3:08pm Chris from DC:

Yep, that's a clicky.
Avatar 3:09pm Wild Neil:

Fred! How's things in France?
Avatar 3:12pm fred:

Pretty good, I even received my swag last week! We got a couple of inches of snow last week, it was chaos. You're welcome to laugh at us for that (I did)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm Ike:

Wow I had no idea Miss Piggy (and Animal) could speak *actual* French instead of just faking it!
Avatar 3:16pm Chris from DC:

Avatar 3:18pm Wild Neil:

Fred, I used to live in Ridgecrest (Armpit), California. It is in the Mojave desert next to a Naval Base the size of Rhode Island. In the middle of the desert! Where it gets really really really hot like 125 F in the summer, 100 miles from Death Valley. So one winter we got one inch of snow. EVERYTHING closed so people could watch their kids who stayed home from school. You would think we got 3 feet of snow! an inch!
Avatar 3:20pm Clara Sanchez:

Hi Brian! Hi everyone!
Avatar 3:23pm TehBadDr:

Actually I'm more like a non-Newtonian gel!
Avatar 3:23pm TehBadDr:

Hello Brian, all!

"He'd fuck a mailbox!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm Listener Bob in PGH:

Hahaha, that's one memorable quote! It took me a few moments though to remember where I'd heard that. Quincy Jones!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm Listener Bob in PGH:

The other great quote was: "Yeah because it's not you motherfucker!" (Ringo Starr)
Avatar 3:31pm TehBadDr:

Well I don't remember Donovan sounding like this. way out man!
Avatar 3:34pm TehBadDr:

Am I the only who can't play the stream now?
Avatar 3:36pm fred:

The AAC stream is OK for me
Avatar 3:36pm TehBadDr:

Avatar 3:51pm fred:

Phew! My favorite show of last year's Sonic Protest. It was nothing like this, but I like both styles

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:13pm BronwynB:

hey brian and everyone! haha fred i read your comment before looking at the playlist and knew it had to be sparks. i was in a meeting so no dancing for me...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...lemme guess...: they're (H.O.) too hip to stay together & repeat themselves...
Avatar 5:15pm fred:

@Bronwyn: there should be more dancing in meetings (as a bonus, that would disqualify me from attending)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm BronwynB:

i wish the presentations i just sat through had been delivered through the medium of interpretive dance.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...powerpoint pirouette...take the roll & do the stroll...
Avatar 5:19pm fred:

@Bronwyn: be careful what you wish for. I wouldn't trust people skilled with powerpoint to do interpretive dance (which I pretty much hate anyway)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm Michael 98145:

Mark e. smith = Jerry Lee Lewis. Wanted to post last week BT, but couldn't so I'll say it now.
Avatar 5:31pm Kamp Climax:

Enjoyed the Wet Tuna, now that was amazing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Cheers BT.

...'yes!...extensive & expensive research has proven interpretive dance s the most effective way to holistically communicate crucial but otherwise forgettable information'...& they say there's no more need for Python...

Jimi's park : en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...& he was strung out @ Isle of Wight - looked like coming down off speed & sleep deprivation - near to his death...
Avatar 5:44pm fred:

(I think ballet sucks too, all that denial of gravity is so boring. Hendrix deserves better. Try Hofesh Shechter's Political Mother someday)
Avatar 5:44pm farmer pete:

Don't post wikipedia links. Please. We're trying to stop Russian influence, remember?
Avatar 5:45pm Kamp Climax:

He sure in the hell didn't deserve that biopic.
  5:45pm King Ludd:

My brother was going to see this at IOW on his bike. Puncture just outside Didcot. Disaster.
Avatar 5:45pm geezerette:

older cousin of mine took me to a concert. opening act was a goofy old man doing embarrassing things to a piano. Jerry Lee, please forgive me.
amplification was so excessive that we didn't "hear" Hendrix, we FELT him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Gawd I love MitchMitchell.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm chris:

Avatar 5:47pm geezerette:

Avatar 5:47pm Kamp Climax:

He's like Dangerfield, the man gets no respect.
Avatar 5:48pm fred:

@geezerette: That reminds me of the first time I saw Glenn Branca live. A physical experience
Avatar 5:48pm geezerette:

Hi Fred! :D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm Michael 98145:

Well, there you have it! ..."Russian influence" does not exist.
Avatar 5:50pm geezerette:

Everyone in the hall must have traded molecules.
Avatar 5:51pm coelacanth∅:

so so good. so obviously Mitch - not that ham-handed other one.
Avatar 5:51pm fred:

Sunn O))) (and Stephen O'Malley as a rule) are pretty good at that too
Avatar 5:52pm Kamp Climax:

How big was the Branca venue?
Avatar 5:52pm SiHV:

I'm having a religious experience.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm ultradamno:

Honestly the most sonically physical live band I ever saw was Slayer. I'm not even much of a fan, but brutal.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I love BuddyMiles too - but Jimi&Mitch is like Trane&Elvin. These guys are lighting the rulebook on fire & taking one phat hit off it...
Avatar 5:53pm fred:

A theater, maybe a thousand seats, totally not designed for symphony n°8
Avatar 5:53pm Brian Turner:

This would be a good time to remind everyone in NYC the Major Stars are playing Saturday night at Union Pool (and fri in philly)
Avatar 5:53pm farmer pete:

Sigh... Seattle. Silicon Valley with rain.
Avatar 5:54pm geezerette:

...& howdy, Brian and everyone!

Coel, just for you...d32dm0rphc51dk.cloudfront.net... (Tim Ebner)
Avatar 5:54pm farmer pete:

Once it was the town that gave us Jimi Hendrix. Now it's the town that gives us kids who watch YouTube videos of other people playing Guitar Hero.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54pm Booz:

Sun0))) vaporized me one night
  5:54pm King Ludd:

So that was the security personnel's radio bleeding through Jimi's amp? I thought it worked really well.
Avatar 5:55pm fred:

@farmer pete: and Starbucks. Nobody is forgiving that
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm Michael 98145:

never experienced Slayer, but once in a small hall Sonic Youth rearranged my insides.

Thanks again, Brian T
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm chris:

thanks, BT! bye folks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:57pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

The best guitar & the best voice:
Thx BT.
Avatar 5:57pm coelacanth∅:

g did you paint that? i Love it!
Avatar 5:58pm farmer pete:

Good show Brian, and nice sign-off. Otis! Yeah, Starbucks did happen. Things could be worse though. I think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm Carmichael:

Spinal Tap did a take on the "security through the amp" issue when they visited an Air Force Base to play a dance.
  5:58pm King Ludd:

Goodnight Brian. Goodnight John Boy. Goodnight Mary Ellen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm chris:
