Slipped in through the milk door.
Avatar 12:01pm Sem:

Came in through the bathroom window.

Hello, Mary, βrian, whoever, wherever.
Avatar 12:04pm Mary Wing:

Hi there Brian and Sem!

I check Ken's playlist every week now, since I seem to subconsciously be on the same wavelenth as him in terms of musical selections, and sure enough, he played an artist that I was planning on playing! Sheeesh! Now I just have to hope that I don't copy Duane either, heh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi, Mary and people where it's sno-wing! You could fix that by moving to Tuesdays, but then risk doubling up on Garbage Time artists.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm coelacanth∅:

greetings Mary and all
Avatar 12:11pm Mary Wing:

Hey there Ken and coelacanth!

I can't move to Tuesdays, there's no room for me there!
Avatar 12:13pm βrian:

Mondays are wide open, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm coelacanth∅:

wednesday's the perfect place for you.
Avatar 12:17pm Mary Wing:

I'd like to think so!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Whatever Tuesday? Whatever Thursday? No, just lacks the pleasant rhythm of Whatever Wednesday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm coelacanth∅:

speaking for myself but i'm sure some others, i can say there's little conflict in choosing which wfmu to listen to on wednesday. if i'm in the mood for Duane's show i'm probably not in the mood for Mary's, and vice-versa.
wed night is another story. 2 great shows on the main, drummer & ichiban streams.
Avatar 12:26pm βrian:

I find that I wander on Monday afternoons.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm coelacanth∅:

...that is to say - 2 very different shows, usually. like on friday i have to choose between 2 shows i like both, but i'm either in the mood for Bryce or in the mood for Uncle Michael. not likely both.
-not a conflict.
Avatar 12:27pm Mary Wing:

You moody fellow, coela. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm coelacanth∅:

Avatar 12:28pm βrian:

Bryce can be a bit of a sadist. But when he's good, he's so very good.
Swag For Life Member 12:30pm Tiago from Portugal:

Hi Mary and all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm coelacanth∅:

Bryce rarely plays something i don't like, but sometimes it's just not where i'm at. just me. i also am repulsed by certain artists that are very popular on wfmu.
...if i ever like all music, please kill me.
Avatar 12:35pm Mary Wing:

Greetings Tiago, thanks for joining us today!
Avatar 12:35pm βrian:

The cat just went airborne.
Avatar 12:44pm northguineahills:

Ladytron? Yes it is!
Avatar 12:47pm Mary Wing:

Hi NGH! Always a good time for Ladytron in my book.
Avatar 12:52pm Mary Wing:

Please help me figure out what other song this sounds like. It's killing me!
  12:52pm rbrt:

lol! I was trying to figure this out too, I feel like I've heard something similar to this
Avatar 12:56pm Mary Wing:

Howdy rbrt, it's so annoying!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm fleep:

My Figurator is in the shop, can't help ya.
  12:57pm rbrt:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm maestroso:

From LastFM: Tartu Popi ja Roki Instituut is an indie-pop band from Estonia. They play 60s and 70s melodies.

that's a clue. I know that melody too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm coelacanth∅:

play it again i was in conversation for the whole song.
(i probably don't know anyway)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm coelacanth∅:

at the zoo, maybe?
Avatar 1:06pm northguineahills:

Hey, in Newfoundland, India, Iran, Afghanistan, North Korea, Myanmar, Cocos Islands, French Polynesia, Marques Islands, and parts of Australia, it's not at the top of the hour (the aforementioned are either 30 or 45 minutes of from the UTC whole hour)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm coelacanth∅:

(i just remembered i'm using realplayer, so i could back up and listen to it)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm coelacanth∅:

"swlabr" by cream -there's one
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm fleep:

Assumes the New Age Music Position
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm coelacanth∅:

(Enya, originally spelled "Aine" and pronounced "ahn-ya")
Avatar 1:14pm northguineahills:

Who knew a song about a river in Venezuela would become so popular???
Avatar 1:16pm Mary Wing:

Hi fleep and maestroso!

Yes, maybe it is "At The Zoo," coela! Will listen later to check.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm fleep:

The overdubs still give me shivers, it's such a angelic sound.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm coelacanth∅:

if i make a song about the wallkill river, near me, and how if someone with dreads, and her dog, swim in it you no longer want them in your bed with you? will that be a hit?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm doctorjazz:

Hi all, listening, too busy to post, enjoying the sounds!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm coelacanth∅:

(because of the smell)
Avatar 1:20pm Mary Wing:

Hey there, doctorjazz!

Remember: I need songs with spelling in them, all suggestions gladly accepted!
  1:21pm Dean:

Spelling, as in C-A-T, or spelling, as in, "Double, double, toil and trouble"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm coelacanth∅:

so, (i'm sorry but i only caught the end of your request) you want acronyms, or abbreviations?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm fleep:

Bo Diddley - I'm a man, has spelling in it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Howdy Whatevers. Mary, now that you've commenced this wonderful "3oaK", I can't leave earshot range of my radio!
Avatar 1:23pm Mary Wing:

Spelling as in G-L-O-R-I-A, not witchcraft, heh.
Avatar 1:23pm david w:

Everybody is buzzing today, nice to see!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23pm coelacanth∅:

h-a-t-r-e-d by Tonio K
Avatar 1:23pm Mary Wing:

As long as it's spelled out, acronyms and abbreviations are okay.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm fleep:

Not sure about this tinkertoy version, the Libera was decent
Avatar 1:24pm Mary Wing:

Hi Dean, Kevin, and David! Welcome to Wednesday Whatever in all it's weirdness!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm coelacanth∅:

Mary on the www. (the weird wednesday whatever)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Does "ABC" from The Jackson 5 qualify?
  1:27pm Dean:

Country Joe & the Fish, naturally.
  1:29pm Dean:

For minimalism, there's Van der Graaf Generator's "W." A pun, but still.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm coelacanth∅:

shangri-las give him a great big kiss
  1:30pm Dean:

And New York Dolls' "Looking for a Kiss," copping the Shangri-La's.

Avatar 1:32pm Roberto:

I'm torn between running away screaming and clicking the star.
Avatar 1:32pm northguineahills:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm KevinfromBayRidge:

This Orinoco is flowing in a whole different direction!
  1:33pm rbrt:

haha Roberto...I'm clicking
Avatar 1:33pm Roberto:

Star it is.
  1:34pm Dean:

Hmmm, if the lyrics refer to "D.J.," is that spelling?
Avatar 1:34pm Mary Wing:

6 stars, I cannae believe it!!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm steveo:

  1:39pm Dean:

Sex Pistols, "EMI."
Avatar 1:39pm Mary Wing:

Hi there, Dean and steveo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Give me a few minutes to see if KMFDM has anything in their discography.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm coelacanth∅:

(didn't d.o.a. do a song called "d.o.a."?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm steveo:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm coelacanth∅:

...and obviously the divorce song by Dolly Parton; but you could use the circle jerks' "golden shower hit" instead, which has that spelling out within it.
Avatar 1:46pm Mary Wing:

Love the Golden Shower Of Hits song, I bought the 7" when it came out!
Avatar 1:49pm northguineahills:

I believe they did, coel.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm coelacanth∅:

it's hilarious! first heard it on Paul Cavenaugh's show, wfmu c.1984. still have the cassette recording off the radio.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm coelacanth∅:

(Paul Cavenaugh, rest in peace)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm Ken From Hyde Park:

KMFDM's "D.I.Y."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm coelacanth∅:

oh yeah - Peter Gabriel also has a "diy".
Avatar 1:57pm Mary Wing:

Acronyms are fine, but how about some actual words spelled out?
  1:58pm Dean:

Wire's "12xu." I know, not an actual word.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm steveo:

Let me hear you say, this shit is bananas, B-A-N-A-N-A-S!
This shit is bananas, B-A-N-A-N-A-S!

Nice one, steveo!
  2:01pm Dean:

Lord, yes, @steveo! That's a great example, and a great song, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm fleep:

Um www.songfacts.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03pm steveo:

i woke up on Monday morning with this bed track stuck in my head!
Avatar 2:04pm Mary Wing:

That's cool, coela, but as I have found, many of songs like those don't actually spell out anything in the song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm steveo:

that's no fish -- I spy a blowhole!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm steveo:

oh was looking at fleep haha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm fleep:

The important thing is trying. And googling.
  2:07pm Dean:

Another not-quite-a-word, "TVC15."
Avatar 2:08pm northguineahills:

I've found many records in the trash.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I recall having an ocorina when I was small. It may have been a Cracker Jack prize.
  2:12pm βrian:

Are these long lists a requirement?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Zats ... ocarina, I meant.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm Ike:

Rancho Thatchmo is a good show, like this show! Well, actually not much like this show... in terms of material. I mean, similarly good quality, dammit!
Avatar 2:16pm Mary Wing:

Ike! Glad you're here for the last hour, which could go anywhere, frankly.
  2:16pm Dean:

Modern Lovers, "Girlfriend": g-i-r-l-f-r-e-n
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm Jeff Golick:

That's the best one, @Dean. Hi, Mary, and Whateverines.
Avatar 2:21pm Mary Wing:

Hey there, Jeff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29pm Jeff Golick:

There's a girl group answer song to "Gloria" out there, where they spell out his name. Can't remember what it is, though. "Sheldon?"

Also: Janet's "Miss You Much"; "Word Up"
Avatar 2:30pm Mary Wing:

Heh, I think the name was Melvin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30pm Parq:

Yes, Melvin. One of my favorite off-mainstream records.
  2:31pm Dean:

The "lyrics" for Cage's "Four2" consist exclusively of the letters comprising the word "Oregon," though I don't think they are ever recited in order.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm Jeff Golick:

Oh, yeah. Melvin!
"Cheese and Onions."
Pardon me if you've covered all of these already; I joined while the show was already underway...
Avatar 2:32pm Mary Wing:

Hiya Parq!

I need a clean-sounding recording of Cheese and Onions, actually...
  2:32pm Dean:

Even better, @Jeff G.!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm Jeff Golick:

A 45 of "Melvin" went for $500 a little while ago, it seems: www.popsike.com...
Avatar 2:34pm Mary Wing:

And a clean-sounding recording of YMCA, heh. My record is too scratchy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:35pm coelacanth∅:

ymca doesn't spell anything out!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:35pm Parq:

Great live version of "Dance", also a favorite.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:36pm coelacanth∅:

(3 of my 4 suggestions do, btw)
Avatar 2:36pm Roberto:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38pm Parq:

Hee. I remembered this "Ritz" cover but forgot about the vocoded "Super-duper" until I heard it, and then I remembered that it was my favorite thing about the record.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm Listener Bob in PGH:

Vocoded "super-duper" is indeed the best part. Whenever I hear this song I lip-sync that part!
Avatar 2:40pm Mary Wing:

Heh heh. Hi Bob! It's confession time, evidently!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm ⓔⓘⓚ:

Don't be fooled: I've been lurking for a while! Not the whole time though. Also, "Ritz" was my favorite song when I was 7 and paid absolutely no attention to most music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm Listener Bob in PGH:

Confession time? Why, whatever do you mean?!?!?!
Avatar 2:42pm Mary Wing:

This secret love of Taco, I mean.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:51pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Putting a store-bought frozen burrito in the toaster oven right now!
