is this track dedicated to the 10 monkeys in that lab that VW tested diesel on? They'd sure appreciate it.
Avatar 12:04pm northguineahills:

Doing the universe's good works, Fashion Tashjian! May it thank you!

  12:07pm Alex D:

ahhhhh thank you so much Duane, Obrigado! You are playing the killer brazilian tracks that I haven't listened to since I was a teenager working in this brazilian record store in the east village.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm KRYPT:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm Linda Lee:

what beautiful music! thanks Duane!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm chris:

hello, Duane and folks. happy happy joy joy!
Avatar 12:22pm Cecile:

I learned how to say Berlin correctly in German today.
  12:23pm ?:

Excellent choice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm Linda Lee:

how's that, Cecile? can you spell it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm Kat in Chicago:

Cecile, despite the friends and acquaintances I've got in Berlin, I don't think I even know how to do that. How you say?
Avatar 12:26pm Cecile:

You say it kind of lightly, "BAIHR-lin". You don't punch the R very much.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm Linda Lee:

accent on the first syllable? wow!
Avatar 12:27pm Cecile:

or so this Austrian language teacher taught me. He might be suspect. :D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm Linda Lee:

think i've actually heard this. sounds more like Bay- than Ber-.
  12:29pm Robson:

I'm from Brazil, I know some of those songs, but others not yet, but they are excellent beautiful lyrics. Brazilian Popular Music (Música Popular Brasileira - MPB) every Wednesday ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm Linda Lee:

very pretty bass line on the Erasmo Carlos.
Avatar 12:31pm Cecile:

Avatar 12:33pm Cecile:

Linda - yes, and it's, how to put it, light and delicate sounding. English sounds harsh. Which is funny because we make fun of Germans for being gutteral and harsh.
  12:33pm Eyal:

Ayy!! Glad to be here with everyone on this ride. Tim Maia is legend.
Avatar 12:34pm northguineahills:

Tim Maia, new to me, Digdug. My new next door neighbors are Paulistas. I should start playing my Brazilian music, old and contemporary.
Avatar 12:34pm Cecile:

It is still a great language to shout in.
Avatar 12:35pm Cecile:

Duane, got Chico Science? I always have to ask.
Avatar 12:39pm Duane:

No Chico Science this week:)
Avatar 12:40pm Cecile:

Avatar 12:41pm northguineahills:

Damn, this set is keeping me alive (and head dancing) at work. Any Baile Funk?
Avatar 12:43pm northguineahills:

@Cecile: I've always heard it pronounced Behr-lin, but yes, the r is barely there.... I'm sure someone more proficient in linguistic terminology can correct me.
  12:47pm Fashion Tashjian:

Hmm, I'm visiting Berlin later in February and do I need lessons on how to pronounce it properly? My friend who lives there simply says it "BEhrLIN" given my limitations of transliteration here.

Anyway, no bother, I'm just going to bring gifts from Armenia, do drugs we don't have in Armenia, and go to legendary clubs.
Avatar 12:47pm Cecile:

I kind of have to overexaggerate the "ehr" sound or the old Spanish reflexes kick in.
Avatar 12:48pm Cecile:

That sounds like how I heard it, Fashion. I was just excited that I finally learned to say it not so much like an Amurrrican.
Avatar 12:49pm Cecile:

And Fashion have a great trip!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm Linda Lee:

got it. thanks for the video. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm Linda Lee:

gorgeous set Duane!! thank you!!
Avatar 12:57pm northguineahills:

Enjoy Fashion Tashjian! I always love visiting Berlin! Check out the club, Kraftwerk.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm Kat in Chicago:

  12:58pm queems:

i’ve been wanting to go to nowadays but i moved out of queens so it’s a lot harder now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm Kat in Chicago:

I hope to check out Nowadays on my next NYC visit. Also Elsewhere.
  1:00pm Fashion Tashjian:

@newguineahills I hope so, if there's literally a club in Germany called Kraftwerk I need to go. My pal has me on Berghain for the weekend and some other stuff the weekdays.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm chris:

love stumptown coffee and the people who i've met who work there!
  1:01pm Fashion Tashjian:

NO WAY. I'm going to Glasgow after Berlin to see another friend I turned onto WFMU. DUANE THIS IS GETTING WEIRD.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm BronwynB:

hello duane and everyone!
Avatar 1:05pm northguineahills:

weird, Fashion Tashjian, I've been to Berghain as well....
Avatar 1:09pm Cecile:

I typed in "notorious Berghain" when you all mentioned it before. I don't think they will let me in, unless as comic relief.
So I have to come up with a phrase when I go there like "where do the old, ugly, unhip people go to dance to good music?"
Avatar 1:13pm Cecile:

WOW, this is a great cover.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm Kat in Chicago:

My friend who moved there from here pretty much lives at Tresor. i think you'd be fine there, Cecile.
Avatar 1:13pm northguineahills:

@Cecile: When I went to Berghain, there was an avant string quartet, and later elector-acoustic and noise. I was the median age at the time, and there were peeps older then you are now (I saw people 18-70). It is a bit of a hike from the train.
Avatar 1:14pm northguineahills:

err.. electro-acoustic...
Avatar 1:14pm Cecile:

Cool, Kat!

Ok, NGH. So they have events with no doorpeople and whatnot?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm JtotheK:

good grief, i've only listened to the flip of this queenie lyons 45 "your key don't fit" -- i really should have turned it over, this Fever cover is terrific!!!
Avatar 1:16pm northguineahills:

@Kat: I've never made it to Tresor, unfortunately...

@Cecile: As long as you stay away from the trendy EDM nights, you'll be fine.
Avatar 1:16pm PKNY:

Hello Duane and everybody! Got a tight set of UB&B classics going right about now!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm Kat in Chicago:

That's the second really great version of Fever I've heard on FMU this week. Mr. Fine Wine played an excellent one last Friday by one Alvin Robinson.
Avatar 1:17pm northguineahills:

of course, I went w/ some NYC ex-pats and some Mexi transplants.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm chris:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm JtotheK:

@Kat - that's right! I heard that AR 45 on Mr Fine Wine's show. And various WFMU dj's (including Duane, I think) have spun the bonkers 'Fever' by La Lupe on the Mercury label, which is really great.
Avatar 1:22pm northguineahills:

I was just listening to Post yesterday....
  1:23pm queems:

my queen!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm JtotheK:

synthetic substitution, nice! (a 45 i hope to find. someday.)
Avatar 1:24pm PKNY:

Speaking of UB&B classics, is that a reissue of that Melvin Bliss?
Avatar 1:27pm Duane:

PKNY: Yeah it's a reissue from the 70's. Contempo used to do a lot of Loft classics stuff
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm chris:

Duane that premium sounds so dope. it is sure to make the frequent playlist in our casa. thanks in advance! :D
Avatar 1:35pm northguineahills:

The embarrassment of talent at WFMU, do I listen to Duane or Mary Wing or Duane right now. (when working at home, I've been known to put both on in different rooms).
Avatar 1:36pm northguineahills:

(I mean their is an extreme surfeit in talent, that it makes for hard choices).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm Passaic River Blues:

Really interesting things going on in the instrumentation of that I-Roy track.
Avatar 1:41pm northguineahills:

I-Roy! John Holt! This kills, so ill!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm BronwynB:

@ngh: be a true hardcore fmu listener and play em both at the same time!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi, Duane. I hope comfort peacocks are allowed onboard.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm BronwynB:

@Ken: I have to imagine there's no anti-peacock policy. Now if it was the Duane Plane, that would be a different story.
Avatar 1:43pm northguineahills:

@BronwynB: I do that more often then is healthy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm BronwynB:

@ngh: amazing!!! i bet it sounds gr8
Avatar 1:44pm northguineahills:

@BronwynB: I sometimes have multiple sources of the same stream sometimes to get the echo/reverb effect.
Avatar 1:45pm Jshatan:

Yay - Hollie Cook! Trivia note: Both Jah Wobble AND Keith Levene play on the new album, which was produced by Youth from Killing Joke. Post-punk's delightful reggae revenge I called it on Twitter!
Avatar 1:46pm northguineahills:

Wow, Hollie Cook is on Merge Recs!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm rbx:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm Michael 98145:

@ngh, i sometimes get that special FMU effect, but only by mistake :)
