I've got the door firmly shut. Them pesky Mouse Boys are not getting in

w00t—ID codes! I love 'em as much as I love numbers stations!
Avatar 3:01pm fred:

Good afternoon David, Ruth, Stanley, james and listeners
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02pm listener james from westwood:

Hell, maybe they're one and the same in some cases!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm Stanley:

Unconventional? Experimental? Adventurous? Yikes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm doctorjazz:

Hi out there!
Sounds intriguing!
Avatar 3:05pm weinstein:

Hello to the bunch of you!
Avatar 3:10pm northguineahills:

We're all bunched together!
Avatar 3:12pm david w:

OK I switched up my rig here. More comfy, easier to chat, decode Stanley, properly welcome you all, and wrangle metadata.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm Scraps:

Damn! I saw Murray several times, like over two dozen, both with the Henry Threadgill Sextett (Threadgill is my favorite living composer) and with Hopkins. She’s awesome.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm Webhamster Henry:

Proper welcomes, all!
Avatar 3:19pm david w:

If I manage time well today I am going to squeeze in a track from AIR from 1984.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm steveo:

Hello. Wow - the gang's all here!
Avatar 3:20pm fred:

Greetings, Scraps. I hope you can make it Mayuko's playlist this week; you've been missed
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm Scraps:

Hopkins and Murray as double-bassist and cellist are spooky when alone, too. So bad that Hopkins is dead, way too soon.
Avatar 3:23pm david w:

This duet that comes in around 22:00 is heartbreaking.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm Scraps:

Ooh, Air!

Fred, I’ve been listening, especially Mayuko, just not posting. Complicated, but mostly I’ve been in too much pain to sit up and talk. ...
Avatar 3:28pm david w:

Are we talking flu? This thing has upset my world totally, even tho I did not get it. But everybody around...
Avatar 3:31pm northguineahills:

I need to do an mashup of Air and Air (french band). Not sure what that would entail....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm Scraps:

No, not in my case. Constant, increasing pain, since my stroke nine-plus years ago
Avatar 3:33pm fred:

@Scraps: I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope the great music helps somehow
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm doctorjazz:

Hopkins passed a few years after this was recorded.
I've seen Diedre Murray a few times with the Henry Threadgill Sextet as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm doctorjazz:

Lots of flu out there!
Avatar 3:36pm david w:

@Scraps, amplifying Fred's sympathies and good wishes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm Scraps:

Music is the only thing that helps, fred! Well, that and opiates.
Avatar 3:42pm northguineahills:

Making collard greens and gumbo rice, brinner (lunch) of champions. (My lunch breaks are getting later, and later_.
Avatar 3:46pm david w:

I was really doing well with my plan to cook more, until this Halal truck showed up at my stop that smells so good.
Avatar 3:46pm northguineahills:

Feel better Scraps, music is the only thing that keeps me sane (and that's when my life and reality was ["normal"])
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm Scraps:

Thanks, David, NGH, everybody. Going back to listening lying down. Cheers.
Avatar 3:50pm coelacanth∅:

greetings david and all
Avatar 3:51pm coelacanth∅:

...it's always okay to hear Hamid Drake
Avatar 3:51pm david w:

Hey coelacanth. there you are!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51pm doctorjazz:

Giving the drummer some!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57pm steveo:

  3:57pm Mark R:

Pretty amazing the way two guys can hold our attention for this long using nothing but drums.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57pm steveo:

Avatar 4:00pm fred:

@Mark R: Zerang and Drake are not exactly your granny on bongos
Avatar 4:00pm northguineahills:

Hamid Drake blows away the senses live!
Avatar 4:03pm david w:

As the Doctor pointed out, we are obliged to give the drummers a moment now and then.
Avatar 4:07pm david w:

I'm still trying to figure out what steveo was thinking at that moment. Bullfights in Morocco? I guess it is possible.
  4:08pm Mark R:

Very true, Fred.
Avatar 4:09pm fred:

I'm enjoying this Reggie Workman set
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm steveo:

i was not thinking -- only feeling :)
Avatar 4:15pm coelacanth∅:

well, in that case - Olé!
Avatar 4:15pm david w:

And the the didjeridoo makes its entrance.
Avatar 4:18pm northguineahills:

Wow, Hemingway w/ Workman!
Avatar 4:19pm david w:

@Fred and NGH: I cut this set down from 90 minutes. It's got epic inclinations.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm steveo:

...but Spain was occupied by people from northern Africa for centuries and I suppose much of its culture has that as an influence.
Avatar 4:23pm david w:

Yes! That was going though my mind feelings too.
Avatar 4:24pm david w:

Now we've got Indonesia and the singing saw added in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm steveo:

Avatar 4:27pm david w:

Kansas meets Khartoum or Java in Joplin.
  4:29pm Mark R:

What an amazing discography this guy has--he contributed to some of the most important recordings/performances of the past 50+ years.
Avatar 4:31pm david w:

As I recall he announces at the beginning of the set that it is not a composed piece. Something about being in the moment...
  4:34pm Mark R:

That's an exercise in trust and faith in yourself and your fellow musicians. It's certainly beautiful.
Avatar 4:41pm fred:

I just remembered that today is the last day of The Awl. I'll miss that site
Avatar 4:45pm david w:

Did The Awl just burn out? I never heard why they decided to end it.
Avatar 4:52pm david w:

Gotta do a little juggling here now, so I'll say goodbye and thanks all. Lovely as always.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm steveo:

that was great; so long and thanks for all the mind feelings
Avatar 4:54pm northguineahills:

And then Spain occupied musch Morocco, and still has enclaves ( see Ceuta y Melilla)
Avatar 4:54pm david w:

stay stereo follow traveler
Avatar 4:55pm northguineahills:

much of Morocco (My keyboard be trippin'!)
  4:58pm Mark R:

Scraps, if you're still here, how funny that you were just talking about this band Air the other night.
Avatar 4:58pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Coming up now, here on the Drummer stream, Ken's Last Ever... sound collage: "Co-existentialism (holding your breadth)". Simple, happy, looping, revolutionary, live caller participation.
