A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Hi Trouble, Loving the tribute to Muriel Spark! I only started reading her 2 years ago! Shame on me...I began with A Far Cry From Kensington which I just loved so much! I'm now six books into her oeuvre. There has been a recent spate of programmes about her on BBC Radio 4 recently which have been wonderful.I don't know if you can listen to them online? Anyway, great work as ever Trouble! Best wishes x

  10:39am Dean:

The misplaced apostrophe, @Linda Lee, in this case is all the difference between "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie" and "Number One Song in Heaven."

Indeed. I've read most--but not all--of her novels, and somewhere at home I have one of her scholarly works, art history. She was a treasure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57am Trouble:

  10:59am Dean:

@Trouble, I read some of Gallant's short stories when they were collected, maybe during the '90s? Need to revisit her, too. But presently I'm reading Sir Walter Scott's "Waverly"--a far cry from Brookner, Spark, and Gallant--with Virginia Woolf's "The Waves" on deck. No, I'm not reading in alphabetical order by title.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15am eveostay:

Since playlists began, it seems like Fabio and Clay are the only djs to play the original revolution 9 on air; also joe belock did a whole white album covers show in 2008 which i want to listen to, but definitely not now because Trouble, you are on the money today.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45am ⓘⓚⓔ:

Cool lyrics. Even though the B train goes to neither Bay Ridge nor Bushwick, I'll give Joe the benefit of the doubt and assume he can tell Bay Ridgers and Bushwickians on sight, not just because they got on or off at a particular stop.

The B train never went to Bay Ridge. When the B was what was now the D it still only went as deep as 36th Street before veering to Coney Island. And the B train nowadays just goes over the Brighton Beach line.

Bay Ridge is only one train R… Also known as the “R”arely. The “N” train can get you close as an express but it’s nickname is the “N”ever.
Avatar 11:49am northguineahills:
