Hmmm. Man on Wire plays 100% like a "regular" film. That's the genius of it. Local Hero has always been a huge favorite of mine. I'll keep thinking on it.

  Sat. 2/3/18 11:30am Stevel:

Agreed. Bound to get worse before it gets better. That said, I'm feeling somewhat energized. Perhaps if I find something on a local level that can be nudged towards the good, I could support momentum well beyond my purview.

That, or I had a joint before breakfast. Who can say?
  Sat. 2/3/18 11:30am McGreivey:

Never looked at the writing credit on Blue Letter. I'd assume it was by Buckinham or Christine McV. Now I want the C.Bros. record.
  Sat. 2/3/18 11:31am clarke:

MS - Squier (of fender) makes some pretty excellent basses for low money - i recommend the mustang copy or the jaguar bass copy
  Sat. 2/3/18 11:32am aaronfromMI:

That Maya bass is worth fixing up. Nice made in Japan bass.
Avatar Sat. 2/3/18 11:32am TheLoneliestMonk:

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 2/3/18 11:33am Frank In Queens:

A Fender made outside of the US will not be terribly expensive. I used to have a Mexican Jazz bass that served me very well for years until it got stolen.
Avatar Sat. 2/3/18 11:33am TheLoneliestMonk:

also, go to stew mac and get some decent spray on finish!!
  Sat. 2/3/18 11:33am aaronfromMI:

or adjust the bridge.
  Sat. 2/3/18 11:34am andy fuchs:

So you, can die from a guitar if you play an amp with a 2-prong cord (not grounded) or a reaaaaaaaaallly old amp with no power transformer (from the 40's or 50's) where the chassis is connected to one side of the power line. If you are playing an amp like that and touch another guitar or a grounded item (water pipe, radiator, sink) you can take the power line across your body....Les Harvey played guitar in Stone the Crow, a Scottish rock band. In 1972, Harvey was electrocuted and killed on stage when he touched his microphone with wet hands. His is perhaps the most famous case of on-stage electrocution.
Sat. 2/3/18 11:34am Pedro in Arlington Va:

And how about the Rolling Stones winning for Best Traditional Blues Album? In 2017?
Avatar Sat. 2/3/18 11:34am TheLoneliestMonk:

AFM: indeed, could simply be intonation
  Sat. 2/3/18 11:34am clarke:

you could spend a ton of money restoring the old bass (which i DO recommend) - but that can wait. the squiers are cheap enough and good enough for immediate grat
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 2/3/18 11:35am Rich in Washington:

I just bought a Squire Strat on a lark for really cheap and I was pleasantly surprised at its quality, playability, and sound. It was of the Affinity series.
I intended to hot rod it up a bit using spare parts I've had for years but ultimately gave it to my son for Xmas, as he was without a guitar.
Avatar Sat. 2/3/18 11:36am TheLoneliestMonk:

that's why i recommend richie, the most reasonbly priced guitar tech in the city
  Sat. 2/3/18 11:36am andy fuchs:

If all your equipment is grounded (three prong cords all on the same circuit), it's generally safe. Sometimes if it's different circuits or there is a wiring error in the building (it happens) you still could risk it. You can buy a cheap tester at Home Depot that plugs into the socket to check this. Worth it if you gig a lot in crappy bars and clubs that might have wonky wiring.
  Sat. 2/3/18 11:36am larry:

mike just get a pbass
  Sat. 2/3/18 11:36am clarke:

i love SOME squier guitars - but their basses are more consistently great
Avatar Sat. 2/3/18 11:37am TheLoneliestMonk:

fender MIM is as far down the food chain as i go...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 2/3/18 11:37am Rich in Washington:

I've been watching a YouTube series by this Toronto amateur guitar tech named Dave. He's hilariously curmudgeonly. And I'm learning a lot.
They're called Dave's World O' Fun Stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 2/3/18 11:38am Rich in Washington:

MIM Strats are surprisingly affordable in the used market. I am thinking of taking the plunge.
  Sat. 2/3/18 11:38am clarke:

a pbass is going to set you back a thousand if it is decent - you can get close with the squier - i swear by both of mine it is VALUE!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 2/3/18 11:39am Rich in Washington:

But I feel like my skill level and actual time I devote to guitar only warrants something in the Squire range, if that.
Avatar Sat. 2/3/18 11:39am TheLoneliestMonk:

THanks. I'll check 'em out. I've read a bit about it, but not watched a video overview of them. I am sure people's opinions vary a bit.
Right now, I kind of want to build this sleeper, really ordinary and worn looking strat using some really hot pickups I got from an 80s Hondo copy. Hopefully everything mismatches appearance wise.

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 2/3/18 12:27pm Listener Baby:

I think so. Do I bring one, 50, or none? It's a tough call. Thinking one will do it.
  Sat. 2/3/18 12:28pm clarke:

  Sat. 2/3/18 12:28pm McGreivey:

Most latter-day Danelectros are $200-400 used. Most current models are $400-450 new.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 2/3/18 12:29pm Listener Baby:

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 2/3/18 12:32pm Listener Baby:

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 2/3/18 12:32pm Michael Shelley:

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 2/3/18 12:33pm Uncle Michael:

Wait, what?! Jerome Bigfoot Brailey plays drums on the Stairsteps' Ooh Child.
  Sat. 2/3/18 12:33pm clarke:

in many ways pretty purdie reminds me of ali - a lot of wind. but, he has the chops. i would say i believe that PP possibly sweetened a few beatles tracks - most notably the rolls on Daytripper which are totally un-ringo = other than that nope.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 2/3/18 12:35pm Michael Shelley:

Uncle - possibly
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 2/3/18 12:37pm Uncle Michael:

God bless Purdie as a drummer but he's such a damned liar.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 2/3/18 12:38pm Listener Baby:

We didn't listen as well as we do now, Baby. We have all progressed, we hope. PS> You rule!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 2/3/18 12:38pm Michael Shelley:

Purdy plays on the excellent Nina Simone version...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sat. 2/3/18 12:41pm Juke Joint Jonny:

  Sat. 2/3/18 12:43pm clarke:

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 2/3/18 12:43pm Listener Baby:

Because she likes The Beatles, not Four Non Blonds.
  Sat. 2/3/18 12:44pm clarke:

TRUTH!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sat. 2/3/18 12:44pm Juke Joint Jonny:

Well, I'm not going to judge. Just wondering, cause he makes her sound pretty awful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 2/3/18 12:45pm Uncle Michael:

She sounds fucking great to me. The deep stuff is there and the superficial stuff doesn't matter.
  Sat. 2/3/18 12:45pm clarke:

it's already the 3rd - just slide the check under the door..
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 2/3/18 12:45pm Listener Baby:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Sat. 2/3/18 12:46pm Juke Joint Jonny:

Didn't like it when she painted his apartment and kicked out his friends, though.
  Sat. 2/3/18 12:46pm clarke:

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 2/3/18 12:47pm Uncle Michael:
