Hey all. Schedule a bit off lately due to a project being cancelled; using downtime to catch up on doc appointments and such. Happy Thursday!
  12:04pm Stevel:

Getting pretty loud, somewhere between heaven and hell with Motörhead reunited.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm Ken From Hyde Park:

RIP Fast Eddie.

Good Afternoon Diane
Avatar 12:08pm V Priceless:

hey Diane and peeples. Fun Fact: Death sucks
  12:09pm Dean:

Damn, he was a youngster.

On a happier note, my wife was recently a ticket taker for Penelope Houston, who curated a punk film series at SF Public Library from mid-December through last night. Penelope was there, of course, and she was wearing a WFMU t-shirt. My wife told her, "My husband has a bunch of those!"
  12:11pm mr_donutsu:

Never heard this version before. Wow, it’s like The Eagles covering Motörhead - but in a good way!
Avatar 12:11pm Cheri Pi:

DdddIIIIIAAAAAANNNNNNNEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!! Feels good to be back on the board. Thank you friends!! RIP EC :'(
Avatar 12:12pm Cheri Pi:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm Threemoons:

Avatar 12:14pm coelacanth∅:

rest in peace.
death is rough - on the living.
  12:15pm Stevel:

Driving from Indianapolis to Fort Wayne one night, I finished the trip by listening to Ace of Spades 23 times in a row, and did not tire of it. Just saying.
  12:16pm seth from muddy creek:

Motörhead. RIP.
Avatar 12:16pm Chris from DC:

Aw, RIP Eddie.
  12:17pm Tom from Maplewood:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm mrdonutsu:

First time I saw Motörhead was on the Iron Fist tour. Fast Eddie had quit just days before. I was so bummed. Still am. :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm mrdonutsu:

"Who is that redheaded dude playing guitar?!?"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm Ricky:

1981 NYC Motorhead and Ozzy w/ Rhoads... what a show!
Avatar 12:24pm Cheri Pi:

RIP Al Morris
  12:24pm Tom from Maplewood:

Request: “The Liar”. Iron Man’s Best song!!!
  12:25pm Tom from Maplewood:

Alfred was a GREAT guitarist. Anyone who used
Iommi as a model is OK by me!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm Gaylord Fields:

I'm saddened about Fast Eddie's passing, but I'm comforted that I found out here, among kindred souls.

Avatar 12:36pm Chris from DC:

Oh no, I didn't know about Al, awful.
Avatar 12:36pm Wild Neil:

Peace all. I remember Fastway! They were so 1982!
Avatar 12:36pm MenfussMike:

Saw Fastway open for Saxon and Maiden back in 1983. First time I saw either band and first time I smoked the dope. Good times.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm coe:

You know I had not listened to the Joykiller stuff since it first came out. I forgot how "diffrent" it was.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm Rich in Washington:

dang. the stream appears to be down here. All wfmu streams.
  12:46pm Stevel:

Cool tune and neat lineup. The Quick was an entry drug for my musical shift into the world of new wave and punk.
Avatar 12:46pm V Priceless:

yeah - stream down
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm coe:

Yup mine too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm Devin B.:

Yup. Stream seems to be down.
  12:46pm rw:

Stream seems to be down here too. I'm going to make some coffee...
  12:47pm Dean:

So regret never hearing The Quick live.
Avatar 12:47pm Cheri Pi:

pop-up works fine wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Ken From Hyde Park:

For whatever reason, the stream here is working just fine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm Rich in Washington:

Not for me. Popup, direct url. Nada.
Avatar 12:48pm coelacanth∅:

main and drummer stream were crapping out yesterday too,
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm Rich in Washington:

Avatar 12:49pm V Priceless:

waaaa
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm Rich in Washington:

does anyone know how to write in Jud Jud?
Avatar 12:49pm coelacanth∅:

- still enjoying the Ginger Baker track, with interruptions
Avatar 12:50pm V Priceless:

Ginger Baker is punching someone....
Avatar 12:50pm ron in S FL:

OK, it's in and out here too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm Rich in Washington:

It's TRYING to come back. iTunes just ran through all the WFMU streams in my streams list really quickly.
Avatar 12:50pm Wild Neil:

My friend John Leamy was drummer for Masters of Reality for a awhile, then he got replaced...by Ginger Baker! He said it was a huge compliment actually.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Coe:

And I'm back
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Rich in Washington:

OK. It's back. Yay!
Avatar 12:51pm V Priceless:

its back
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Devin B.:

Back!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm Coe:

@wild neil I think if I was in Leamy's place I would be at peace with that as well and the fact that I wouldn't want o F with Mr. Baker especially when he has his cane handy
Avatar 12:52pm MenfussMike:

at Wild Neil...loved that first MOR album...and their second one too
Avatar 12:52pm coelacanth∅:

yup Ginger's still punching too, at 78
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I put the blame for this directly on that FCC dope Ajit Pai for messing around with net neutrality.
Avatar 12:52pm Jeff Moore:

Hey, guys. Trying to figure out what's flaking out streamwise.
Avatar 12:53pm Wild Neil:

I SAW MOR at a church basement in Syracuse, and at Lost Horizon in Syracuse in the late 80's. It was epic!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm chris:

hello DK and folks.

thanks, Tech Director Jeff!
Avatar 12:54pm Wild Neil:

MOR is severely underrated, overlooked rock music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm Coe:

THanks Jeff
Avatar 12:55pm MenfussMike:

I missed them in Knoxville in the early 90's when Ginger was with them. Apparently Ginger was hanging out pissed drunk outside the club and I am still pissed that I missed them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm Rich in Washington:

Thanks, Jeff! You're a life-saver! I'd star you, if I could.
Avatar 12:59pm Polyus:

The song was the first I had ever heard of Sonic Youth. Freaked me right out at the time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm mrdonutsu:

Martin Bisi - photographer of the infamous Gowanus Canal Swimmer!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm Coe:

Jesus Martin I just looked at your "resume" and holy cow have you had your hands in so many albums I love. Thank you!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm mrdonutsu:

Check out White Hill's "Stop Mute Defeat" for an excellent example of Martin's recent work.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm rsj:

fill that canal in! why spend hundreds of millions of dollars just to sell condos when the canal will never flush itself and always require maintenance and massive amounts of power?
check our the Ferrara brother's concrete mountain their building next to the gowanus on a superfund site! they've elevated the land like 20 with concrete over the last few years
Avatar 1:30pm Chris from DC:

Last time I saw Martin play was Spectrum when it was still in Manhattan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm coe:

CopShootCop is one of my favorite bands of all time, but I have neve seen them live so my entire sound experience with them is based on what Martin worked on. So as I have listened to much of those albums and had my mind blown by the sound I would say that at least in that case he has accomplished his mission
  1:31pm SeanG:

great interview. thanks!
  1:32pm Snowfall:

super interview
  1:36pm Dean:

Amoeba Records is having an online sale (use JAN15 for 15% discount), so I plugged in Martin Bisi: 74 results, some duplicates, but wow. Derek Bailey, Ramones, Peter Brotzmann, Herbie Hancock...
  1:40pm Stevel:

Thanks for introducing me to Martin. Pretty interesting piece of the puzzle.
Avatar 1:41pm coelacanth∅:

damn dealing with pointless rich people's crap i missed the interview.
Avatar 1:45pm coelacanth∅:

oh, good i didn't miss it all
  1:46pm Ghetto Pastrami:

@coe - I saw Cop Shoot Cop in the late 80s or early 90s in Austin and it was truly a great show
  1:49pm Chapelhillian:

I concur on Cop Shoot Cop live, extraordinary experience at the much missed Brewery in Raleigh. Firewater (Tod A's band) is also great, political but not as powerful/noisy
  1:51pm Dean:

Ginger Baker & Paul Gurvitz produced Baker Gurvitz Army's second album. Not sure who engineered, but the sound of Baker's drums on that first track is amazing.
Avatar 1:52pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

[raises fist for bisi]
[...and those gathered herein...]
  1:54pm Dean:

Engineer was Anton Matthews. Worked with Man, Alkatraz (the Welsh band), Anthony Phillips...
Avatar 1:55pm V Priceless:

Certificate of Occupancy from 1943 reveals Martin's bldg used to house liquor blending and candy manufacturing uses, among other factory/storage uses.
Avatar 1:56pm Polyus:

Same thing I was thinking re: Albini and his drum sound. I really like what Martin is saying about where to put them in the mix depending on song.
  1:59pm Dean:

The word "effluent" has an elegance.
Avatar 2:00pm Chris from DC:

Gold Dime are awesome. Saw them on consecutive nights on the last tour.
  2:00pm John Lisa:

Great interview so far!!! does he remember RAT AT RAT R ?
Avatar 2:01pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

There was a fine space-rock band in MD called "Elegent Mess" (misspelled deliberately) so for what it's worth, that name is already on the books...
  2:05pm Stevel:

As he spoke about early on, it must be a delicate process to bring the chaos clearly to the recording. Reminds me of the difference between Nirvana's Bleach and Butch Vig's take on their sound on Nevermind.
  2:07pm Stevel:

Seems that the best producers are combination empath, explorer and techno-nerd.
  2:10pm Mark R:

This was our wedding song.
  2:18pm Dean:

I'm never able to talk to my dental hygienist about anything.
  2:29pm John Lisa:

This interview is soooooo good. Time went so fast! I could listen for another 2 hours.
  2:33pm Dean:

Damn, that'd be something. Walking in on Zorn and Chadbourne in rehearsal.
Avatar 2:45pm V Priceless:

dunno where 3 hours just went - fun show Diane and Martin! Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:51pm chris:

thanks, Diane and Martin!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56pm coe:

We will be there :)
Avatar 2:57pm Chris from DC:

Oh man, Live Skull reunion.
Avatar 2:58pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

insect ark!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:01pm Ricky:

that was great, thanks
Avatar 3:02pm V Priceless:
