Listener comments!

  8:54pm Listener Robert:

Pussy cat came gift wrapped?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:03pm Irene Trudel:

Fellini gift un-wraps every Christmas, Robert. We toss the paper on the floor and let him have fun. Speaking of holidays, hope you all are enjoying the holidays!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:04pm Tome:

Precious ! Happy Christmas Irene and everyone Happy New Year too ! love t he warming sounds and atmospheres as always .
Avatar 9:06pm herb.nyc:

Happy merry to all. Lovely opener- I kept thinking Weyes Blood? But who is Wilsen? Aaaaaand, my Natalie Lewinsky is a tuxedo cat too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks Tome and herb! No Weyes Blood today, as I'm focusing on favorites from the past year. Wilsen is an amazing, dream-folk band fronted by Tamsyn Wilsen, who is a Brit now living in Brooklyn. Maybe someday I can persuade them to come play live on WFMU. Oh, and Tuxedo Cats rule!
  9:14pm Morgan:

this is lovely
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22pm Mister Dobalina:

Hello everybody!

Hi Morgan and Mister Dobalina! Good to have you here tonight.

  9:52pm herb.nyc:

One lovely song after another (to be ruined by Prof Dum Dum, that nut job)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55pm Irene Trudel:

ngh, there's always the archives.Hope you get some sleep! THanks Summer and Michael! Love to all in N.Cali, especially to my family and friends out in the Bay Area.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58pm Scraps:

He talks too much (he's funny; I just prefer djs who tends on the playing-music side), but Prof Dum Dum hits a lot of good music, too (but I like wide swaths of genres)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05pm melinda:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21pm Scraps:

I haven’t heard Esmerine’s new album, but I liked Dalmak a few years ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23pm Irene Trudel:

The new Esmerine album is really gorgeous. I'm starting to get a little deeper into it.
  10:28pm pantz:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55pm Scraps:

There we go! The Clientele, one of my best of 2017. ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm Irene Trudel:

Scraps, did you get to see The Clientele while they were on tour in the US? Absolutely magical.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03pm Scraps:

No.... My schedule of going out to see bands is limited, unfortunately. Both because I’m poor and disabled. But I will moved them up on my list!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09pm Scraps:

Both Laura Marling and the Weather Station sound a bit like Joni Mitchell. Which is good!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm Irene Trudel:

Yes, you totally can hear the influence but they have their own styles.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22pm Scraps:

  11:39pm Kevin:

Sundfor's new album such a gift to my year. Plus I got to see her live at last. Why don't more people know about her?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44pm Irene Trudel:

Hi, Ken, KP and Kevin, glad you could join in late. Ora is really beautiful too. Did you hear her on my show last May? Here's the link: wfmu.org...

I forgot, but yes, I did!

Thank you! Cheers, Irene!

Fab show, Irene, thank you
8:45am 50 years ago - the Nightbird is hatched:

In the warmest recesses in the hearts of NYC radio listeners is ingrained a one-minute song excerpt that debuted New Years Day 1968 - 50 years ago. While vacationing on the West Coast, Alison Steele riffled through a friend's she was staying at albums, and Eureka!, found the perfect theme song for her show. Likely inspired by growing up near a Wakima, WA reservation, gather a few esoteric verses for Elisabeth Waldo's - "Chant to the Sun":
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm Irene Trudel:

Thank you, dear listener, for this! I'd never heard the piece Alison Steele used in the clear. She basically was my inspiration for shows throughout my radio career.
